2024 Pokémon North America International Championships has a lot of cheating problems with the Pokemon TCG. Play Pokemon competitors are taking to social media to comment about cheating and slow play that has been a problem at the 2024 Pokemon NAIC. Noah Sakadjian has already been caught cheating and disqualified, but there's other players talking about cheating and DQs such as an NAIC Top 8 contender. Looks like a new form of Pokemon TCG cheating is prize card checking slow play.

Literally lost R3 in TCG at NAIC because my opponent was slow playing, had a judge warning him numerous times. Judge didnt enforce pace of play though and let them shuffle for 30seconds-1min and couldnt take actions until I tapped or cut. I did lose game 1, but needed 1 prize to win game 2, and couldnt even get to my turn before time and the judge didnt allow an overtime because he had game 1 win, even though he wouldve lost on my next turn. Its annoying, but you cant do anything unless you wanna sit the event out and judge for yourself to enforce rules.

What the championships/tournaments need, is to hire someone who knows how to not only card count, but out play these kinds of players, NOT ONLY THAT: but they would know how shuffling works, so yeah.

What I find interesting is the contrast between vgc and tcg players. VGC being in game actually removes most gameplay cheating (because the game handles the turn order, damage, PP, etc) but the vgc players hack their pokemon which ruins the collecting and training part of pokemon. TCG players because its physical cards and most enjoy the collecting part actually take the time to get and use legit cards (from what I have heard from tcg players), so they go to gameplay cheating because its not automated and consistent and a bit easier to cheat. Its a tricky one for pokemon to deal with tbh. A solution would be to get people to play their games on tcg online client but that removes the fun of the table top card game. I think with vgc they are close if they can implement a hack check that works. One solution (which probably wouldn't go down great) is finding a way to add a unique value to every single pokemon caught. Something like blockchain or NFT like where they can verify that a pokemon is caught and theres only one of them (also solves the cheating of people duplicating their 'legit' pokemon to a bunch of friends). But I think that is technically hard to do. I just hope they can do something so that I can compete at these events on a level playing field! Or better yet the cheaters realise that they aren't actually pokemon fans and find a new hobby.

Over slowing is the most prevalent aside from the hidden jutsus (the tactiics of card manipulation), and the worst part? Most cheaters didnt care whether they dont make it on the top 10, they just are after the CP standings in the national league. And it ticks legit people off. People are absolute liars, and its one of our worst trait that we almost never admit.

I think the judge or a Machine should be shuffling those cards Where you know with a shadow of a doubt, no one has stacked. Or actually hire somebody to do this shuffling unbiased

I thought you were just whining about cheating.... the more I watch you and look at pokemon champs, judges and competitors the more I hope you keep bringing attention to it, it's insane, cheating is rampant in game, on the discords and in comps, it's so sad most younger gens of players just accept cheating as normal now.

I’m new to this community. Can someone give me a list of ways people cheat and what parts are accepted by lots of people. Also can you explain how manipulating the clock works? This seems like an unbalanced format. Maybe we should all just play on the TCG live.

There's tons of ways to cheat in a TCG. Stacking, procedural errors, distracting the opponent, obscuring game actions, changing counters, intentionally double playing supporters and energies, taking cards from the deck/discard. Slow play violations are clearly defined in the rules

most tcgs cant use chess clocks because priority passes between players several times a turn, so players take shortcuts/skip phases when it clearly won't affect gameplay, and a clock would interfere and ironically slow the game down. but that doesn't apply to pokemon tcg. Players can't make decisions during their opponent's turn afaik, so why can't they implement this system?

@@raaaa1637 nah you get one clock to make all your plays in a given time, simple as that. if you cant do everything you need to in a minute and a half to 2 minutes then you intentionally wasting time
