I'm pretty sure the 'main event' of casino royale was 'winner take all'. so it was essentially a tournament but chip values were as marked.

The fact that this super giga cooler happens with everyone pretty much 10bb effective really shows that the poker consultant was just an OMC used to min buying in and limp calling at his local $1/2 game hoping to hit the bad beat jackpot

When a table is opened the dealers do announce the new table stakes. Also when a table transitions from one game or stake to a new one because boss wants to spread the games out. Tournament directors also announce the formatting. That part was accurate. NOW THAT DEALER TALKIING EVERY 5s. I thought I talked a lot.
@lolipedofin

Casino Royale is not exactly cash game. It's technically a tournament. The buy in is the face value of the chip you are playing, last man standing takes all the buy in accumulated. I just assume the tournament fee is paid by Le Chiffre or the winner, considering Bond gave a 500k tip using the plaque used in the game.

I feel like you left out the actual sins in the movie and nitpicked about scenes made for non-poker players. For example, it was completely ridiculous for Le Chiffre to say “you must thought I was bluffing Mr. Bond” when it was an obvious cooler.

In the final scene, the pot was around $150M. Bond shoved for ~43M and LeChiffre called for a bit less, let’s call it $40M. The other 2 players left shoved for a combined $11M. $94M went into the pot on the river, meaning $56M was bet before then. Using this deduction, here were the stack sizes prior to the last hand: Long haired Asian - $20M (20 BBs) Black man - $19M (19 BBs) LeChiffre - $54M (54 BBs) Bond - $57M (57 BBs) In the movie the game was a winner-take all tournament, so these stack sizes are fairly reasonable for the game. Not to mention they’d been playing for roughly 2 days. Also, the game in the beginning of the movie wasn’t a proper “casino” run game, it was a game run in the lobby of that resort, hence the weird tables and loosey-goosey rules

I forget the name for it, but it’s an actual style of tournament. Your stack represents your cash buyin. Blinds go up and people go busto like a tourney, but instead of playing down to 1 remaining, they stop after a certain period of time and everyone still in cashes the dollar value of their stack.

1:18 the car he was betting was a 1964 Aston Martin DB5 and was worth WAY more than the $20,000 cheque he was about to write, it was probably worth more than the combined stakes of that entire table and 2 or 3 more as well, a good one can sell for over a million USD.

@johns783

the exposition wasn't too stupid, but the pot splashing, the bad stacks, and all other forms of general poker etiquette could have at least been acknowledged. people playing for that much money would at least try to make the chips be organized for all the side pot action, for sure. everyone just chucking their chips into the pile makes no sense without the assumption that the biggest stack is just going to win and take it all.

I found it hard to believe that a casino in Montenegro in Europe would use US dollars in the stakes, surely they would use Euros, in the original novel (written in 1952 and set mostly in France) all the money exchanged was in Francs (France's pre Euro currency)
