HELLO! Before some potentially passionate comments appear, let's just try and be kind to one another. There's a lot of nuance in life, and liking something doesn't mean you cosign everything about it (and vice versa). Express your enjoyment or your criticism, but please don't be mean to others doing the same. As for me, I respect anyone's decision not to buy Palworld, and I hope you understand my decision to do so as someone with a Pokemon gaming youtube channel. THANKS! ✌
Theres a backup folder in the save for your game, if something really goes wrong you can go and grab a previous save. Appdata\Local\Pal\Saved\SavedGames\ Also theres a respawn button in the esc menu.
Personally i like the creature designs and their descriptions in the Palpedia XD some of them are hilarious to downright nightmarish how their described. This game basically takes the Rose Tinted glasses off of a Pokemon world and shows you the Adult side of how it would be in one of these worlds. Also if Pokemon opened the floodgates with a lawsuit i'm pretty sure Dragon Quest Monsters would want a word with them since the Head of Pokemon said Dragon Quest monsters was THEIR inspiration for their franchise and looking at their monsters, you can see some pretty good similarities.
Yeah the not liking the designs aspect is subjective, I’ve heard other streamers/people say they like or love some designs- one streamer even saying nitewing is cooler than staraptor lmao. Though then again, judging from this video he only went through the beginning of the game when the cooler designs are more midgame-endgame. Just no one remind him about most of Gen 1-2 pokemon or object/just animal mons for uninspired… lmao.
As a pokemaniac myself, this is the most fun I've had with a creature collector since idk when. Pokemon has dropped off for years making more "soulless" games than this lol. Why can I bond more with these pals than I ever could with pokemon? Because we accomplish tasks together. Pokemon is only just glorified cock fighting but if they implemented all the teamwork and Daily life themes of palworld, they'd be GOAT again.
remember machoke carrying your things for you in emerald intro? I mean pokemon are involved in many different ways in the lore but yeah pokemon games are basically cock fighting. You feel more attachment in Pals than Pokemon.
Just wanted to mention that it kinda hard not to see pokemons when looking at pals when both monsters where based off the same thing for exemple lucario and anubis are both base off anubis
This was exactly the perspective I was hoping to find in a review for this game; somebody that really likes pokémon but is open to the idea that they don't get everything right or give the players the things they've been asking for, for like decades now.
Been playing the game for a while. The game really is a blast, especially with friends! You can work the pals in healthy conditions or not, its really the players choice on how they treats them. In the Poke world they use the monsters for labor and food as well so nothing new there at all. The game does fill a niche that players have really wanted and it shows that they are filling this gap. Pokemon could have easily done this with their own assets, no overt murder, and fans would have loved it. Fans have even been begging for it, and they have refused to put a game out that fills these wants, so its their own fault. I LOVE pokemon but I also love palworld.
Great points! Legends Arceus felt so amazing when I played it the first time, getting so close to what myself and others wanted as a perfect Pokemon game. Palworld does make legends arceus pale in comparison though, one upping so many of the mechancis PLA introduced to pokemon. I did like PLA's visual style more though.
Pretty funny. Love the quick, pop culture gaming quips sprinkled throughout. Good to see an honest assessment that both acknowledges what's problematic but also admits, eh, it's still a ton of fun.
"I don't hear Palworld fans talking about how much they love the monster designs" He obviously hasn't walked into a Palworld chatroom where everyone is gushing over how adorable Chillet is...
If Palworld invested more on creature design, they would be unstoppable. Either way, kudos to the designer. Even if she made some CLEAR copies, the game still has some cool designs
You say the pals are bland. Did you sit and watch them? Watch the Depresso pal. One of the most expressive and unique pal's I've seen. He drags things behind him when he's transporting, when he's in the spa, he's face down just lying there, his mining is like he would rather be anywhere else. I just love his animation, kudos to whoever did those.
Honestly, I do not see any pokemon in any pals when I see them. I am not a pokemon fan though, so it might be easier for me. I love designs of most pals, like Depresso, Daedream, Nightwing, Dinossom, Quivern, Broncherry and many more. But besides pals, this game is just super addicting. I love exploring huge beautiful world of Palpagoss archipelago, I love pouching pals, I love to look how my pals kill bandits, I love catching bandits and selling them to black marketeers, I love to build and improve bases and care about my pals, I love invading parties since they validate all the walls and traps I build, I love crafting and resource grind since I can just chill and do fun things while my pals do it for me in exchange for tasty food, comfy beds and hot springs of course. This game combines so much fun things together to enjoy that you can play and play and never get bored.
So for the soft lock, there is a way out of it, you have to have a mountable pal, ride it, get near a corner like edge and dismount, positioning your dismount towards the corner. Got me out of one of those holes. Though i hope they also come up with an unstuck button in options.
@@PokeBurm There is an unstuck button called "Respawn" but using it might leave your stuff in a glitched position unless you turn off dropping your stuff, which you can do at any time before starting up your current save.
While I can tell Palworld isn't for me, it's not because of the designs of the monsters or anything. I'm just not a survival gamer. Thank you for the viewpoints Burm, I can definitely understand why someone would enjoy the hell out of this game.
I'm not really a survival gamer either but there is something different about this one. It is probably the pals helping in almost every aspect of survival while you go explore the world.
imagine petting sylveon like in palworld, riding gyarados, built stuff with machamp with me just like in anime, in a open world with modern combat system, pokemon just doesn't make such a game, switch is just too underpowered for all of these
I think you summed it up pretty good. Despite how blatant a lot of the designs are, PalWorld looks fun from what I've seen of it on RU-vid. Like there's other monster games out there like Digimon, Dragon Quest, and even Shin Megumi Tensei, so if PalWorld just didn't go for that borderline exact style of art or models of the characters, it'd have probably found its own place in the market without as much controversy. Anyways, I enjoyed your take on it, Burm.
I feel like Palworld is a mostly original game, while some of the creatures look similar to Pokémon we have to remember that Pokémon made creatures very similar to dragon quest. It’s kind of like a cycle of basing characters off of each other
It is mostly original, I agree. And yeah Pokemon did the monster catching thing after other companies -- but specifically there are body parts of pokemon mashed into pals. That level of design nabbing is the difference, but I don't think it even ultimately impacts the experience.
I got stuck on a river and just used the respawn option. While it did end my characters life, it did get be out of that situation and I was able to get my items back. I learned using re-spawn from Honkai star rail of all thing🤣
You brought up my point exactly, the designs themselves aren't the main attraction here, outside some pretty cool designs here and there, it's the fact YOU CAN ACTUALLY DO SHIT AND INTERACT WITH THE CREATURES. I have no idea how Gamefreak keeps failing on making the world feel alive in a post Breath of the Wild world, they should already have everything they need to make a living ecosystem of NPCs, courtesy of being a Nintendo affiliate, yet they for some reason don't, and settle for absolute mediocrity. Says something when a Steam Early Access title was somehow more stable than any of the later pokemon games on release.
Yeah there is a mod for that but they got hit with a cease and desist by the Pokémon company already. That's the thing if palworld broke any copyright laws they would already be sued. People forget many of the original Pokémon were copies of monster world.
I actually like the palworld design more than the pokemon ones ironically to me the pokemon ones feel more lazy than palworlds even the ones that look like pokemon fusion to me feel more interesting than what pokemon has done recently
As a no longer pokemon fan for a couple years now .......violet was the worst financial decision in my life.....im subbing, your freaking great, and your point on game freak not wanting to scratch the itch, using my extra 7 years of wisdom than you have.......they dont want to innovate or do anything new, tye games look worse and worse, designs are getting even worse....and its the same system with a rehashed gimmick for what....4 gens now? Unsure you saw it but the "grass cinderace" in the game looks leagues better than the actual cinderace lol
Amazing how most Pokemon defenders fail to mention that Pokemon itself ripped off several designs from older, similar games back in its early days. But we'll just conveniently forget about that and scream about how some of the Pals look like one of the 1025 Pokémon types that are mostly based off of either Real animals, or Existing ideas of Mythical animals.
Since I've played a bit more, I think most of the Palworld creatures are absolutely fine and do actually stand on their own. There are obvious instances of Palworld trying to get as close as possible to a Pokemon as they can though, like with Robintree for example, where it's a blatant 1:1 down to the theme, design, typing, and color scheme. I'm not defending pokemon, I know they weren't the first and I never claimed that. Creatures are gonna start looking the same, especially after decades in the genre. Here's the difference: Palworld specifically uses, for example, the eye from a Pokemon model and puts it on an otherwise very different looking pal, or the arm of a Pokemon model and uses it on an otherwise very different looking pal. And yeah it may not be plagiarism in the end, and to be frank I don't care that they do it. Doesn't make it not noticeable.
Personally, I am hoping Pokemon goes away forever as we have not had a single good game for the Switch for pokemon. Pokemon fails on every level. If Pokemon goes away forever we will start to finally get good monster catcher games. So glad PalWorld exists now, to show people that pokemon could have been good if Gamefreak gave a little care at all.
That's a little much tbh. And there's zero chance palworld deletes the biggest media franchise in the world. The games play entirely differently, there's plenty of room for both.
Pokemon cant sue Palworld for likeness of the mobs. Its because if they do that, it gives a signal to Dragon Quest in suing Pokemon for plagiarism as well.
Ah, That last bit was 10/10 Palworld is fine. Even with the not very tasteful "reimagining" of some of the pals. That said. We should all want this game to succeed as pokemon fans. It proves to the Pokemon company that people want this kind of game from pokemon. if we are being real. Pokemon needs competition in this market to push them to be better, If I am being super optimistic. Hopefully palworld can do just that? Btw Burm. Did you notice that the purple elk was just Xernias with different colors haha
Thanks for the comments! Not sure Pokemon even cares about Palworld tbh, but I would ultimately love a Pokemon official version of this exact game. Id never stop playing.
Yep pokemon concept is stagnating due to no one else is being allowed to expand on it a stagnating idea is a dying idea that ends up in obscurity and well competition drives innovation.
@@kaligath6616 I think it's pretty impossible to rip off Palworld considering the game, while incredibly fun, is quite literally a mashup of a bunch of existing trendy games -- pocket pair's CEO said as much. If Pokemon made this exact game, they'd be ripping off Botw, Elden Ring, ARK, etc if anything, not Palworld.
@@PokeBurm Wait but your exact wording was and ill quote you on this "but I would ultimately love a Pokemon official version of this EXACT GAME." Implying a direct copy of palworld aka ripping off palworld sorry but you can't pull the "impossible to rip off Palworld" when you yourself in your own words made a statement that contradicted that.
They gave us what nintendo wouldn't. I've wanted an open world pokemon game for 20 years. While I hate AI and several other things - for the scratch of that itch I'll take it. Quite honestly I'm hoping this gets popular enough it finally forces Nintendo to make thier own. Eh, the monsters are ok. But so are newer pokemon.
And doing exactly what they've been denying fans. Pokémon should not sue because of bad glitches. Scarlet & Violet had those glitches to. I would play Palworld AND a Pokémon game like it. There's still differences to it. And honestly, I don't like Gyms or the battles in Pokémon. My favorite Pokémon games are Rangers and Pokémon Snap.
To my knowledge, Japan has no fair use laws, so copyright to my understanding isnt a thing there while if in another country you are stealing ideas from them that do have fair use and copyright, companies like nintendo and gamefreak have the rights to do so. Jokes aside, I agree that Pal world scratches the itches that pokemon is not and will not. Pokemon has been a long time family friendly genre imo and would never add guns or the subject of butchering their own icons even though it is hinted at. Pal world I think in of itself, is its own thing, outside creature collector, its nothing like pokemon, and a lot more like Ark. I think its here to stay and I am all for it since Pokemon seems to be pumping out games that are unoptimized and even then more of a soulless iteration of continuation in another region of the world. I think this will be good competition for them and they should work harder to make their games more interactive and fun, why should we keep paying for triple A titles at that price tag when a smaller studio did a game with some similar but different features way better? for half the price and a fraction of the funding?
I dunno what you mean, I divorced Mismagius so I could make Katress my waifu. There are some pretty great designs in the game that work well with the art style.
Honestly thay got everyone to play because it's a meme only for everyone to be like "wait it's a good game too, guess i'll keep playing". I bet the devs never thought it would get so big so quick, i just hope they keep adding content and maybe a PS5 version later.
What i find odd is people will point out this game rips off another IP yet when pokemon does it they seemingly feel as if it never happened. Sorry but pokemon is not innocent when it comes to plagiarism after all dragon quest being one and the fact that pokemon literally takes most of its design of animals hell they even made a ice cream and key ring as a pokemon. It's rather hypocritical always to point out palworld but then seemingly ignore pokemons wrongdoing fair is fair after all because how can we trust your not bias by your own attachment to pokemon if your not willing to call out the faults in that what your a fan of. On another note strange how for years games have been taking concepts from other games multiple concepts mind you and no one blinks an eye but the moment palworld does it all of a sudden its slandered to high hell. Breath of the wild did not create or own the concept of exploration or should we say breath of the wild stole the concept from skyrim? Ark did not create or own the concept of a survival game or should we say ark stole the concept from minecraft? Pokemon did not create creature capture concept or should we say pokemon stole the concept from Megami Tensei series? You see you cant pull the "its stole this and that from other games" when the very games you mentioned did the very same thing because that would be hypocritical.
Some of the stuff goes a bit past inspiration -- there's evidence of Pokemon's models actually being used to make some of these. I see your point though, Pokemon doesn't have ownership of a lot of these concepts.
Palworld take Pokemon parodistically, but naming it "Pokemon with guns" is incorrect, because is more "Ark with Pokemon in the breath of the Elder wild". Using different known ascpects of different famous games and meshing them together with a lot of nice animations in a colorfull and lifefull environment, for me, it's not lack of fantasy, but genius!
Yeah I think they nailed it on which things to take from which games. Is any one element cutting edge? No. Has the conglomeration of all of it been done before? Also no! And that's why people love it.
@@PokeBurm I've just discovered that we have arrived at the point in which there's people on Steam who buy Pallworld only to ask for refund to leave bad reviews...the stupidiest have done this only after 10 minutes...
The saddest part of this whole thing to me is that this is what Archeus could have been. Archeus was based in the old times of pokemon and would have fit a survival crafting style game much better than what we got. Im having a blast playing pal world and even though i dont care much about individual pals, i do see the dream of what ive always wanted pokemon to be. Able to break the chains of a turn based rpg, letting you fight alongside your pokemon and adding more complex game mechanics into the overly simplified formula. Honestly the worst part is that pokemon never will do what pal world has done and after the last two generations of flops im finally ready to simply walk away from pokemon until they make a change. I will not buy anymore pokemon games though i have played them since gen 1 until change happens, or never if it doesnt. Its honestly infiriating seeing what pokemon could be but gamefreak refuses to make.
I think that's totally fair! As someone who plays competitively, each new game does give me plenty of hours of value online. But if someone jumps ship because of the main playthrough, gameplay, and/or performance, I cannot say I'd blame them at all.
I dosent use AI art. If it does they need to say it begore publishing it on steam. And in the doesnt say anything about AI so it doesent use AI. Thank you very much
I love my pokemon and I'm not sure how it is so I'm not going to say if I would like it but I may try it when I get my xbox fixed but I'm a die hard pokemon fan but I will never do what some of the people is doing
At this point, Pokémon have SO MANY different creature design, you cannot make a "creature" that dosen't look like one, they have done almost anything. Then, if i can say that for fun but, look at palworld and tell me when did team rocket decide to take out a gun and pull the trigger to steal those pokemon? Pretty sure they could even make the evidence disapear with some acid attack from one of their pokemon afterward. Yeah, never, because pokemon is ultra kid friendly.... Can't we have our "adult realistic version of pokemon"? Also, when did someone use pikachu to charge a battery?
You can’t also gatekeep such a simple game like Pokémon has it’s nothing special it’s a creature fighting game the hoops you gotta jump thru to make anything similar is just cringe
I've only played this game for an hour and a half and got very little done, so I can only really say it's alright gameplay wise. I mean if they would make the creatures' designs less comparable I could like it a little more, but it's inevitably going to get compared to pokemon even if all the designs were completely original because pokemon fans are fucking rabid.
You made a lot of great points and I think I agree with just about all of them. The creature designs are the worst part of this game. They aren't unique, inspired, or interesting. But it is still a fun game. I wanted this to be a pokemon game. I would rather be playing this with pokemon instead of pals. But pokemon won't make this game. I wish pokemon made an open world survival game where I can fight side-by-side with my team. But they didn't, and they won't. Palworld is my only choice if I want a game like this.
If Pokemon took the base building and crafting from Palworld but still opted for their turn based battling over the third person shooter fighting, I think that'd still make for a super fun game. And there's absolutely room for both. Arceus got close, but there weren't enough actual trainer battles in there for me and Palworld just showed me how much more could be done with the crafting/survival end of things.
Look if massive game corps can use the scummiest methods to make sub-par games, then why can't indie devs cannibalise different games to make something basically everyone has been asking for for years upon years
hmm i get your point but most of the games you named are not the first to do what they did like big tree of life not the first *&^night not the first by far many jrp's with that look . Pokémon close to the first. remember just because its the first game you played with something does not mean its the first time. as to being a Pokémon fan i don't mind why should we respect them when they hand us empty games.
