Great explanations, and I love how patient you were with a new player. I feel like you navigated both difficulties perfectly.

Honestly, the way he teaches, it is so helpful towards understanding what is happening. I don't know how much is actually retained, but holy shit does it show easy to understand ways to get a good perspective of the game. It still focuses on sequences and chess remains to be a lot of memorization, but the way he explains does feel like it helps with pattern recognition. It does make me fear for getting tunnel vision though.

That's very interesting how @ 2:30 she chose to recapture the bishop with the h2 pawn, which opened up a file for the rook. Out of habit, I would have chosen to recapture using the f2 pawn, which would not have been nearly as useful. Learned something new!
@johnbishop9621
@johnbishop9621 3 года назад
It's actually quite a basic principle to always capture towards the center if possible (or not blundering)
@Danicker
@Danicker 3 года назад
Yea there's a number of factors at play here. The main one is that it opens up the h-file for the rook which is very powerful in combination with the bishop. Also it makes whites pawns more central (which is generally a good idea) and it avoids pawn separation (after fxg3, the pawns on g2, g3 and h2 are on their own "island". It's best to not have many pawn islands) It would be a different story if the white king was already castles kingside. Then fxg3 would generally be better since it would open up the rook on the f-file whereas hxg3 would weaken the h-file and make the king more vulnerable
