This hotel is okay and anything but decent. The staff is friendly, best is the brekkie. The interieur is somewhat expired which you can tell very easy when you look closer. Too much, too golden, too blingy to be classy, just like most east european taste.
The purple soup was Lithuanian cold soup. It is a typical Polish and Lithuanian summer soup. These are sliced cucumbers, radishes, chives, dill, boiled young beets, poured with sour cream and yogurt. Today, it is popular to serve this soup with a boiled egg. The traditional Old Polish version was served with slices of boiled veal or necks of red crayfish. Szczecin was not lucky with post-war reconstruction. Poland, left in the sphere of Soviet influence, was a very poor country. Practically most of the towns and villages were very damaged. Szczecin waited a very long time for reconstruction. What is happening now in the old town is an architectural reference, not a reconstruction. Szczecin and the surrounding area were destroyed by the Allies. Because this is where the famous German V1 and V2 rockets were created. Wrocław, which you visited, was destroyed in 80%, Poznań 60%, Gdańsk 80%, Warsaw almost 90%, but these cities were rebuilt after the war.
