In this video, I build a homemade water tank trackside accessory for my traditional O-gauge Polar Express model railroad layout. Stages of construction are shown, and the materials used are explained. Sometimes, finding just the right trackside accessory seems impossible. Then it's time to get out the tools and have a go at creating something from scratch. In the age of steam, water tanks and coaling towers were an essential part of railroading. The tenders behind the locomotives had to be refilled with coal and water frequently, as both were consumed in the production of the steam that powered every "iron horse." Building a water tank in the appropriate size for an O-gauge layout is within the abilities of most hobbyists. If I can do it, you can too! I used hobby sticks, an old mayonnaise jar, soldering wire, paint, dimensional hobby wood, glue, paint, and a few miscellaneous items to create an attractive water tank for my layout. In this video, I show and explain how I did it. The finished water tank is shown, as well. Please share your comments below.
