This dog coat is very easy to make, and User Friendly . You will need once your dogs length in polar fleece and as its very wide you should get about 3 coats out of it.
You have made the steps to the pattern so easy to follow. It's wonderful to create the pattern using the paper to get the fit right before transferring it to the fabric. I think you have found a new career, making doggie coats. Yup I do, I can feel it all the way through your video. Your heart is in this 100%. I will wait to see the rest of MY training class before I hit the Fabric store. :)
You are doing such a fantastic job in creating this video and doing step by step instructions on how to make the doggie coat. I felt the same way as you when I started speaking on my videos. However, you have gone much further then me, you are appearing in the video. You are doing an OUTSTANDING JOB and I so appreciate everything you are doing for me to teach me how to make the doggie coats. It's amazing that I am in the USA and thousands of miles from you and we can do this through YT. :)
This is the greatest vid. I love the way you show and describe each piece. You are so mellow and have a nice voice. My 4 year old "Bella" looks a lot like your "model." Glad you mentioned seam allowances as a comment. Thank you so much.
Thank you very much for helping understand how to make a pattern and about the ribbing! You were very helpful. I have used patterns but you make it seem easier :) your the best!!!!
I need to thank you for uploading this set of videos. I understand it's from nearly 10 years ago, but the current video tutorials are terribly confusing and too fast to follow along with. I am so happy to have found you! Thank you again, my puppies will be warm this winter :)
RU-vid is so cool, I cant believe it and I admit I am an addict. I'm always surprised where it takes me & the doors it opens up. I have never looked to buy anything crystal in my life as I thought it was out of my reach. I decided one night to look for some black glass beads as I had a dress that would suit them. 1st I found I did'nt have to buy any, I could make them, then, that I did'nt have to settle for glass, I have landed in the affordable world of DIY Swarovski crystal. Oh my.
Ahahahaha, thank you. Well I got an inkling when I saw the "Quack", Who names a bloody German Sheppard Quack! So I looked at your channel and it looked a bit suss. You were good though, I was'nt sure. Thanks for the fun, I love my Nephews, don't know how many of you lot are in on this.
@63ozpaws Cut on the bias! What a great idea, thank you, I appreciate any suggestions and improvements. It's nice to meet you Tracy-Anne, I hope you make some videos of your dogs coats too :)
Yes, that's right just as you described it, its a wide opening in relations to a dogs leg but, you've got it, they need it to allow movement of the shoulder. When you draw it out, if it looks too wide to you, you can cut it a little smaller, you can always cut more away when you fit it on your dog but you cant add. Thank you I'm glad you enjoyed & I hope it works out well, If you have any other questions, I'd be glad to help :)
Thank you for your videos. I make dog coats for my dogs and it is always interesting to see other designs. May I offer one piece of advice. On the coat with fleece neck and legs cut the material on the bias (across the fabric) and it will give you more stretch. Thank you once again I especially senjoyed your pattern making and I am going to make some of your coats for my chihuahua. Best wishes from Tracy-Anne, Perth WA
Thank you for such a lovely comment, I'm so pleased that it was helpful. I'm not a professional and I'm sure this is not how the pattern designers do it but it seems to work for the dogs. Lots of luck with your coat :)
Oh, Thank you, your're a doll! When is your birthday and do you know what sort of pup you are getting yet? It will be your best friend and its so sweet and thoughtful of you to want to make he or she a coat. There's lots of puppy kisses coming your way :)
Thank you, it's an applique quilt I made back when I was into quilting. It's just little pieces of scrap fabric ironed onto a plain background and blanket stitched by hand around the pieces, so it's not traditional applique, it's a lazy girls applique.
You're Welcome and I hope it works out for you and your doggie friend likes it. I like to make lots of things too & Ive found a lot of tutorials on blogs that are helpful, you just Google for example, handbag making blog, or whatever you want to make and you can take your pick of lots of free patterns. It feels good when you create something yourself. Thanks for watching and best of luck:)
Wonderful video, and the best that I've seen so far for cutting out the patterns. I'm struggling around the leg shoulder area. Do you measure around from inside the armpit to the outside of the top of the shoulder socket? Some videos that I've watched, they only measure around the leg itself, which ends up with the top of the shoulder (coat leg) being too low and the opening not being wide enough for the leg to walk properly.
@Yogobeast483 Oh, a Jackapoo sounds gorgeous, I'll have to google and see what one looks like, my Son has a Jack Russel, you must be very excited. The little tan and white dog is a chihuahua and the black and white is a mini foxie. Good luck with your coat, I can't remember if I said to add seam allowances so be sure and do that if I left it out :)
You are most welcome, I forgot to say when you cut the 2nd rectangle of paper, for the underside, the width of this piece should be from side to side across the widest part of his tummy when he is laying on his back. When you have the side seams and shoulder seams sewn, try it on your dog and if the neck and armholes are too tight start cutting them down till its a comfortable fit. I'll show adjustments at this stage in the next one. I am scared stiff but loving doing it.
@sparrerbyrd Thank you. Darn it, this was painful for me and the viewers but I tried to get the Movie Maker at the time and I am working on the old XP system so I cant get Movie Maker. Good luck if you try it out and hugs to your Chi.
Hi Touche, I could make it when I get this project out of the way, but I am thinking if I made it now she would be grown out of it by the time winter comes. What do you think?
@huntergirl2298 A website to make these? Sorry, I dont understand, do you mean somewhere you can buy the finished product? The rest of the videos show you how to make a pattern to fit your doggie.
Oh my goodness, your Bella does look just like mine:) I can tell you love her very much. No offence taken at all, they are too fat for sure, both of them. My darling Jerry, the black and white mini foxie is 16 now. They dont get enough exercise! Your lovely comments have made my day, seriously, thank you so much.
