Here's a classic match from the archives of Polaris 4 between Checkmat standout Jackson Sousa and now mixed martial artist and Bellator fighter Dillon Danis. polarisprograppling.com/
@@eb664 this is jiu jitsu, not wrestling, he doesn't mind getting taken down. wrestling should be for middle schoolers only, it's not a good or entertaining sport, no one even gets pins anymore, which are the most exciting part, even though they are still boring. you might as well say their sumo wrestling is embarassing middle school level
Danis gets a lot of shit, but his juijitsu is really next level. You gotta understand just how good and accomplished of a grappler Jackson is. Former no Gi world champion and won multiple titles. Lost a lot of decisions to the very best and Danis got him out of there. Danis is only 23 too. Kids going places in the Bjj world
For some reasons promotions stop the action off the mat regardless of postion. If a sub is in the stop, break the action and start standing. Why? I have no frickin idea man. Some promotion will give the athelete who had the sub 2 points for the sub they forced him to let go, but in this case since polaris doesnt have points Danis just gets a nothing. At jitz kingz 1st show about 2 weeks or so ago Nicky Rodriguez sunk in 3 rear naked chokes that he had to let go of cause his oppenet rolled out of bounds. Promotion just need to start dq'ing people who think rolling out of bounds is gonna save them or do what Fight To Win does and have people on stand by to stop them from rolling out.
That last sequence was so clever. Sousa is hand fighting and had his arm in to prevent the heel hook. Danis momentarily let's go of his gable grip while holding onto the heel with his right. Pulls the left under and across, pushes Sousa away with his legs, locks the grip again and cranks it ! Had to slow it down to 0.75x :)
Not a Jiu Jitsu practitioner so my initial reaction to That last sequence was why did Sousa gave up ... His defence was working... But after your breakdown I watched it again and realised Dillion was the one to let go to regain position.... Appreciate such commments...
Everyone hates on this dude because they have no opinion of their own and everyone else does it. He's only 24 and he's trying to put a MMA career together and Conor could really help him develop his striking.
Hes got so far to go with his striking tho. Such a young guy and so much talent. I think he needs to be his own man now no one can live with his jit in the mma world. Hall/kron apart.
At 8:40 you can see Danis look to the ref after locking in the deep heel hook a few times hoping that he would stop the fight. It’s obvious Danis didn’t want to pull it and risk injuring his opponent.
Say what you want about this guy but his ground game is supreme. The guard recovery after the leg drag / toreando at 5:58 was so fast… his a serious guy…
who gives a shit if you are a scum bag, you could be the best athlete in the world but if you aren't a good person, then it doesn't matter what you can do
learn to separate craft from character. Sure it seems even more noble if you're good at your craft and character, but a shit character still doesnt take away from appreciating the quality of good craft @@wrestlingmoves1
@@wrestlingmoves1not true, look at Jon Jones who is a major scumbag that beats his wife in front of his children, runs away after crashing his car into pregnant women, got caught doing steroids yet he is one of the most beloved and admired athletes in the world. Besides, Dillon Danis is a good person, what did he do that’s so wrong?
that was incredible how he broke a tight grip with pure skill, and still hung on to the heel. also crazy how he is a marcelo student, yet marcelo rarely if ever used leglocks
I feel like I owe Dillon Danis an apology , when they said he was Conors coach and I watched Conor tap so quick I blamed it on the coach . Dillon Danis skill level is way above others he stays calm and is 3 moves ahead of his opponents . Maybe Conner will get the opportunity to show what he’s been taught . Great job Dillon I’m a fan . Stay humble and strong .
Danis is in another level when it comes to grappling, probably would submit khabib in seconds. In MMA it would be a different conversation but grappling only....
Some people tell me guard passing is not that important in modern grappling, yet I see high level guys still losing because they were unable to pass guard and were tapped in a swift counter attack. Souza was schooled in this match.
Perhaps what they mean is that guard passing is very difficult to do, and does not actually get you that close to a submission in sub-only rules (especially light weights). I think both of those are true; at the black belt level, passing is extremely difficult to do, and once you do pass it is very, very hard to submit from side control. The majority of submissions in sub-only rules are either rear naked chokes from the back, guillotines from the front headlock and other wrestling transitions, and inverted heel hooks from some leg entanglement (ie, the saddle, or the 50/50). But passing is still a very important skill to have. It's the *main* method of scoring in points BJJ when you're on top. Also, although advanced guard passing skills are not necessary for MMA, it still is a good way to train base and balance (the same way wrestling rides in folkstyle are a great way to develop base and balance too) and those skills translate into all sports, even if the actual passes themselves don't. In sub-only, if you want to enter into leg locks or back takes or front headlocks from top position, you need to have a passing game to force those positions -- even if you are unable to actually pass. FYI, heavyweights is a bit different. Compared to lightweights, passing is easier to do as a heavy weight, and also gets you closer to a submission.
Usually I ignore these type of comments because they're very immature from people who probably haven't done Jiu Jitsu but that was a good one and it actually got me to laugh 😄👍
Dillon is really contraversial, but he is a really nice guy. Really humble. Next level jiu jitsu skills. The guy only have 2 fights in MMA and the world knows him already. He his super smart inside the fighting world and outside of it. Genious. I have a good feeling about his career!
Dillon is a jiujitsu master he should only focusing now on kick boxing and mma grappling to be complete and not get kod in a bout , no one wants to go on the ground with him.
@@Benji_UFC he forgot werdum, jacare, ryan hall, tonon, burns, vieira and maia lol all of them have better resume in bjj than dillon and all of them competes in mma
Danis is a beast and dedicated to his craft, all the fully grown men in here need to go cry themselves to sleep, all the young lads in here, look and learn.
Sousa has a strong wrestling base. Danis was ripe for being finished with some cradle attacks. Looking for more catch wrestling in these matches to shake things up.
They need to put a proper cage or some boundary in grappling matches. Dangerous and stupid not to have one, and interrupts possible wins for either competitor too.
It’s crazy to me that if I was drunk at a bar and got into an argument with the smaller guy I would probably think I could take him...man would that end badly hahaha. I love how unassuming jujitsu is.
Danis is a very scary person in the fight game.. if he can improve his striking even a little bit I can definitely see him being a champ in Bellator and even in the UFC in a couple years
I agree he needs to work on striking but ye needs to make his ground game his first option always he has that Rhonda Rousey personality when he tries to strike and severely overestimates his own while under estimating his opponents he needs to find a way to move out of the pocket and force people into grappling range and avoid throwing long exchanges
Unless your opponent is a straight up mother fucker like Yoel or Liddell. Then it's a waste of your time. Psychological warfare is for the scared compensating for lack of game. Real killers don't yap like that, Floyd runs and Ali has 6 losses. Tyson did roids and so did Roy Jones. Kabib and Marciano are undefeated right now. Kabib holds the MMA record for longest undefeated win streak.@Jorge A
Why aren't there barriers to keep the competitors within the mats? They would serve a double purpose to ensure they don't go flying off the stage. Seems ridiculous to me.
Dude they gotta put up a fence or make that matt way bigger its just to fucking small, and idk why its elevated, this is a great way to get a fighter hurt.
