This is our review of the upper canvas doors from Polaris, that we recently installed on our Polaris General 4 1000. We weren't looking to permanently enclose our cab - we like the open cab most of the time when riding, but our winters up north (actually, for about six months out of the year) it gets pretty cold, so we figured this would be a good way to extend our riding season in conjunction with our cab heater.
We discuss the install, construction, and some positives and negatives we've found about this product. This isn't a how-to video, the instructions are actually pretty good - but we do have a few tips after running into a couple minor snags with our install that might save you some aggrevation.
As always, thanks for watching - if you found the video worthwhile please hit that like button and consider subscribing!

I watched this when if first came out, and I thought I would give my opinion after having the doors for about 9 months. I got my General with the doors installed by the dealer before pickup. The fit around the roll cage is terrible. No matter how much I have tried to adjust them there are large gaps all the way around. When driving, the tops of the doors blow outward leaving a 1-3 inch wide gap. The velcro isn't strong enough to hold it and they have ripped lose so many times they don't really even stick anymore. No matter what I have tried, when trailering it the doors blow outward 3-5 inches and I'm honestly amazed they haven't ripped off the General. Riding or towing in the rain tons of rain comes in the gaps and while I probably don't get as wet as not having them at all, the whole inside of my UTV gets wet. This is also true with snow. I have the tracks and with the tracks throwing up snow, they come in through the gaps and get snow in the cab as well. I'm honestly very disappointed with them. If I had to do over again, I would have gotten the hard doors when purchased.

They are definitely not as nice as the hard doors. I would agree - if people want a nice tight fit, waterproof, etc - the hard doors are the way to go. The way I secure these while trailering is I leave the window unizpped a few inches at the top, close the doors, reach in and velcro the doors, then zip them closed from the outside. It's a bit of a pain. The velcro has come off once or twice. We wanted something that we could take on and off easy, that keeps the heat in and we couldn't justify $3k for the hard doors. They do the trick for us but they're not hard doors for sure.

Great video.. installing factory accessories on these machines can be madding! (I have a Yamaha and the heater was the worst!) Ran a soft cab for about 3 years then I couldn't see out the windows anymore. Had to bite the bullet and get full factory hard cab last year. Mine is a two seater so I hope they last for you. Those hard doors are expensive! Great channel, you guys are nailing it! Thanks!

Thanks! The heaters are a PITA. The factory installed ours but the hoses under the dash are pinched so we’re not getting much air to the windshield. Gotta try to figure that out now…. Ugh

Great video i had a problem with the velcro not sticking. I used 3m double sided tape to restick them back down and it works alot better

That’s a good idea. That 3M tape is pretty strong. I’ll give that a try. Thanks!

For the rear quarter window clip...take them in the house and warm them with a hair dryer, the entire panel, then install.

The one thing I notice in your video is a lot of excess gasketing material hanging off the bottoms that is providing no function for sealing.. Is that just something you just trimmed afterwards to tidy it up? Great video and nice review touching on the pros and cons.
@TheNorthwoodsFamily
@TheNorthwoodsFamily Год назад
I never bothered to trim it but I suppose you could to clean up the look a little. I don’t think the extra material really seals anything.

Which mirrors are you running? I want to purchase mirrors that won't interfere with the windshield and soft doors. Thanks for another great video!
@TheNorthwoodsFamily
@TheNorthwoodsFamily 2 года назад
They’re this kit from Rocky Mountain - Seizmic Pursuit mirrors with the extension brackets. They fit good with the canvas doors. My visibility to the passenger side mirror isn’t great, and I did have to pull them off to install that triangular plastic piece but it’s easy to pop them on and off. Just make sure you don’t lose the nuts for your roll cage when you pull the bolts out to install the mirror brackets. Make sure you have someone holding them in place or you tape them. I lost one and never found where it fell… www.rockymountainatvmc.com/parts/seizmik-pursuit-utv-side-view-mirrors-p?s=1531359

Hi Just purchased the upper doors . Did you fit the plastic trim next to the mirror? I’m running the seizmek mirrors with the the extension mounts . They seem to push the mounts out so not fitted them yet . Great vid 👌

Spot on again!! I also have the Polaris uppers because of the cost. I had the same issues with my 2 seater General install. The Polaris uppers and the Inferno heater were the best accessories for Wisconsin riding.

Thanks Patrick! Yeah living in a state where you can see sub-zero temps 7 months out of the year, those are definitely good to have.

Did you verify the reference mark was 4” on the template page before cutting them out and using them? I printed the instructions ahead of getting uppers and the ones I printed were off by an 1/8”. So I had to change pdf setting to actual size and they printed right. Just a thought.

We did and ours was right on. A couple other people mentioned their template wasn’t printed quite right too.

Yeah… they’re not perfect. But a heck of a lot cheaper than the hard doors

I can only think of that little kid with that big ass helmet on and a seatbelt with no Hans device. If you are going to wear a helmet with a seatbelt, you need a Hans device.

How do you remove the canvas Windows
@TheNorthwoodsFamily
@TheNorthwoodsFamily Год назад
The entire metal frame lifts up out of the doors very easily. If you want just the windows open, you roll them down and secure the roll at the bottom of the window with some Velcro strips.

Thanks! Glad you found it helpful. Forgot if I mentioned it in the review, but leave the windows zipped during really cold weather. The plastic gets a little brittle too. Keep ‘em zipped and you should be fine.
