As a new Slingshot owner, I thank you most kindly for this information. It helps grandly and keeps a lot of money in my household. I was quoted $170.00 for an oil change and to grease the fitting. After watching your videos, I’m confident in doing it myself. Again, thank you.

Thanks Sam. I have an eye bolt that the threads fit the drain hole perfectly and I screw it in about 1/4 in. and try and pull up and I run out of strength. I got the front one out only cause I could work all around it to pry, Momma said there would be days like this. I'll let you know if I get it. Jim

Jim, you can not pull straight up. There are tabs that go under the hole area. The tall cup will work best, once one side is clear, put something under that lip to keep it from going back down, then rock the other way.

I can't get the cup holder out. I pried it all around so far and freed it up the best I could but the rear part is not coming up. Hard to get screw driver in the rear part of cup holder. Maybe I have the thing pried up too far in front and on the sides.

Jim Schrom, here is another way you can get it out. Take a tall cup and stick in holder all the way down and push side to side in all directions and it should pop loose. Good luck.

Teddy Schifflin yes, and even better, I could use non metal tool to pry cup holders. Auto parts store have them. Thanks for you comment.

I have been told that a high quality gear lube such as Royal Purple or Amsoil 75 -140 wt gear lube will help that gear noise a lot. I am going to change mine out this weekend. I will let you know if it was a waste of time but I hope it helps. If it does help, I am going to change my transmission gear oil as well. I am waiting to see if this works in the angle drive before I spend a small fortune on Royal Purple or Amsoil which is very expensive. I will let you know how this all works out.

Yes, Chuck, please post your results for others to see also. Maybe you could record the sound before and after with same driving conditions. That way you can hear the difference and report as best as possible. If I could I would do a video on that test, it would be worth a lot to others. Your report back will be valuable just the same. Thanks.

What are the two boat cleats used for by seatbelts?
@samowens44
@samowens44 7 лет назад
Mike, thanks for noticing. That is where we store our seat belt buckles. We also have seat belt tension adjusters which all add to a convenient way of dealing with seat belt and not having to bend way back to get to belt. Yes I have a video on my channel about it.

Hi Sam, thank you for this video. Very helpful. Is there a certain grease I need to use? Thank you
@samowens44
@samowens44 5 лет назад
You can go to any auto parts store and tell them you want general purpose lube grease. You only need to do this every other oil change and you will be good. About every 12,000 miles about 4 or 5 full squeezes of the grease gun. Good Luck!

I'm planning to billed a custom trike out of a old model t pickup in the future kind of like a sling shot would you make a video on how the driveshaft on a sling shot works and explain how the power is transferred from the engine please and thanks
@samowens44
@samowens44 2 года назад
@Charles Kesling, that sound like an interesting project. With the single drive wheel at the back, the Slingshot uses what they call an "Angle Drive". The drive shaft comes out of a standard transmission, with a U-Joint that goes into the Angle Drive. It is like a differential with out the second wheel, so it is just turns the drive power at a 90 degrees to spin the wheel. The Angle Drive is secured to the rear swing arm and has slots to move back and forth to adjust the drive belt tension. Maybe you could just get a Angle drive and adapt it to your project trike. This would be if you are using a one wheel drive in the rear.

Great video! Quick question my 2020 has a whining noise that comes in go especially when 2 people are in it. Do you have any suggestions?
@samowens44
@samowens44 2 года назад
@3 Wheel Life, thanks for comments. Noise will happen if the drive belt and pully are not keep clean of dirt. Frequently wash the rear drive pully and belt. This is a big source of noise. Next is belt alignment, needs to be adjusted correctly. Viewing the rear the belt left edge should ride about 1/16th in from left pully ridge edge. Belt tension should be adjusted properly. I have video that show all of this except washing the dirt from drive belt and pully, think that needs no video. You do these things and your Sling will perform and only give the L Drive gear sound that all Slings have. Look at all my video for the drive systems of the Sling. My video are for the 2015 and mostly drive info is from the 2017 model. Good luck.

thanks for the answer to my question. I have another, Have you found a way to quiet down all of the drivetrain noise that these Slingshot have? I am going to try putting a better grade of lube into the Transmission and Angle drive.
@samowens44
@samowens44 4 года назад
Chuck thanks for your questions. I had two slingshots and the both made the same noise. The angle drive and the gear design I feel keep the sound level and there is not a lot that can be done. You should stay with the recommended weight of lube when selecting a better grade lube. Good luck.

You want to pump the grease gun until you see fresh grease come out that flushes the U joint that the properly way to grease any fitting
@samowens44
@samowens44 5 лет назад
Teddy I see you have experience with maintenance. Thanks for adding your information. I agree with fresh grease from gun. Also I want to add, wipe dirt off the grease fitting with a clean rag. This is a most important step as to not push dirt into the U Joint.

Hey all..... Been reading about this clicking noise from the rear..... There are different opinions on this...... Ours is a 2017 and have over600 miles on it and just noticed it on my way to work...... Some are saying bearing failure..... Thoughts on this and can this be changed out our selves or...... Thank you....
@samowens44
@samowens44 6 лет назад
Ghornet75, your Slingshot is still under warrenty and you should take it in and have them inspect the swing arm. There have been lots of bearing failures and will cause clicking noises. Good Luck, they should know what and how to inspect and take proper action.

Sam what type of grease did you use? Do you have a link?
@samowens44
@samowens44 4 года назад
David, I get a general purpose grease at auto parts store. You can buy grease from Polaris if you like, You just need the injection needle nozzle on whatever grease gun you get. Just do it every 12,000 miles would be fine. Every other oil change. Good Luck.
@frehleycomet
@frehleycomet 6 лет назад
Sam the 5803 doesn't have the needle point tip as yours. I just purchased one and I can't put grease in the zirc. Is there another one that will work
@samowens44
@samowens44 6 лет назад
The tip I show has a point with a hole in the end that high pressure grease will come out when the grease gun handle to depressed. You have to exert force downward on the needle tip on the zerk ball. When your tip is pushed against the ball of the zerk, it is depressed and will allow grease to go in. Not sure of why it is not working for you. Squeaze the grease gun handle to make sure grease is coming out of the nozzle.
@frehleycomet
@frehleycomet 6 лет назад
This is the kind I got. Now seriously how much force do I have to apply? And yes grease is flowing through. Sorry to be such a pain but I want to get this correct for the SS www.amazon.com/Lincoln-Lubrication-5803-Grease-Needle/dp/B0002SR6XE?SubscriptionId=AKIAJWHAE6JFIP54ODDQ&tag=askcom05-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B0002SR6XE
@samowens44
@samowens44 6 лет назад
Sounds Like the zerk is not taking grease. Now, there is a small ball at the end of the zerk, grease fitting. It is spring loaded to keep dirt out and keep the grease in the joint. When you put the tip against the ball, when you push, the ball should go into the fitting and the nozzle should enter the fitting a small amount. Now you do have to apply a good force to push the grease through the gun, nozzle and into the fitting. If the fittl is not accepting grease, you should see grease coming from around the nozzle at the point of entry. You may not be putting enough force or the grease fitting is not accepting grease for some reason.
@samowens44
@samowens44 6 лет назад
Google a zerk fitting and look at how it looks and look at the one on your u joint. let's make sure you have a zerk grease fittling. I have heard some models do not come with a fitting.

frehleycomet, I found someone else that had a problem with nozzle on Slingshotinfo forum. Here is the link with my help. This may help you with the proper needle Nozzle. slingshotinfo.com/index.php?thread/6471-any-fellow-photographers-here/&postID=236355#post236355
