There is now a GoPro hero edition 2014 for £99. This is an amazing camera with 1080p 5mp and 720p. I'd definitely go with this if u have the budget. Check it out at www.gopro.com
can you please get the waterproof case for the camera. hers the link www.amazon.com/Polaroid-Waterproof-Shockproof-Action-Lifestyle/dp/B00NXK3FZ6/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1412657818&sr=8-6&keywords=polaroid+cube
Aside from the content of this review, the Polaroid Cube, this is one of the best tech reviews I've ever seen/heard - concise, straightforward, easy to understand, and just the right amount of useful information. Thank you, Techmoan!
The black version is great when you want to film incognito. Filming who is messing with a friend's chained bike outside every night. The black Cube was oriented, sitting on an iron gate/fence pointing to the bike. Since it was black, and the fence is black, and it's night, you couldn't even see the thing sitting there! And yes, we got clear video of the vandal and turned in the video to the cops...
This is the BEST review for this camera , period. Polaroid should link to this article as part of their "manual". I ended up getting the Polaroid Cube, it's the cheapest option in Canada Mobious is still more mone for w/e reason.
came here expecting it to be rubbish, leaving here wondering why I haven't got one! Impressed with the sound quality of it the most, plus.... IT HAS A MAGNET!
Matthew Coleman - Thanks for the synopsis, I did a look-up and saw it was $135 then I noticed your comment was four years old. I thought it was too expensive before I noticed that now I _know_ it's too expensive. But thanks for the synopsis!
I love the magnet. It sticks anywhere on my car. It sticks to the railing for my stairs. It sticks to the cubical walls at work. It will even stick to the corner of dry walls (the corners use a metal strip on them). It sticks to my adjustable arm desk lamp! Plus, you can get a tripod fitting magnet with the similar curve and mount it, magnetically, to a tripod! I have the waterproof housing and take this snorkeling! It's quite a nice camera to play with! I glued a neodymium magnet to my kite and sent it up into the sky!
@@Dogmom27 I can't use it to read license plates from my bike when both the bike and the car are in motion so it's not a good after-incident safety cam. But it's pretty good for recreational purposes, the plastic bike mount that goes with it is not very good but with a rubber band to reduce the vibration it works nicely for "fun" videos. Think back 10 years and imagine what kind of video camera you could get for $30, pretty amazing really even if it's just a toy.
Great review! I feel like you forgot to mention that people really love the magnet for some reason, even though it won't really stick to most surfaces.
Honestly I was quite impressed with the quality of the visuals of the camera. I was not expecting something so clear from something so small. Also I think it's real use is for more stable camera work, being a hidden cam for a video or TV show might better suit a camera such as this (that's just my opinion)
Wow your reviews are actually on point and not just someone loving to hear the sound of their voice as it is the case with so many reviews on youtube. Every word has information that is valuable and concise, as well as very understandable vocabulary and helpful links. Subscribed!
I like your reviews, they are really helpful and thorough. Regarding the camera, the reason it wasn't sticking at the handrails is because handrails are made out of 304 or 316 grade stainless steel which is not magnetic. It is not the camera's magnet fault.
That camera is really really cool for what it is! I would've never have expected that a camera at that size could have that much quality. It's quite impressive!
This camera seems to do a fine job for what it costs. I have been looking for such a camera and do not want to pay for an expensive Go Pro. The Polaroid Cube is now at the top of my list of choices.
As always Mat thanks for the upload! I own a Mobius and for me the most annoying thing is the 3 buttons, I find them unnecessarily complicated. I'm tempted by this Cube purely for the ease of use with the one button. As a biker yourself I'm sure you will understand how hard it is to press things when you have your gloves on. Another thing that tempts me is the range of mounts that will be available, as I would use it to put on my helmet or mount to my handlebars etc. The issue of no tripod thread doesn't bother me because if I do ever mount something to a tripod I generally use my AS-15....hmmm, very tempted indeed, you've given me food for thought! Thanks once again
Besides the complaints about Polaroid the company, I really loved and appreciate such a thorough review of this little cute camera. I have been waiting for a proper review for months now! Thank you for this!
Calida I wasn't complaining - just clarifying. Many people really think that the Polaroid products must automatically be good because of all their years of history making cameras. I get similar emails about the Kodak action cameras that are identical models to the ION and Monoprice cameras - I believe it's important to ensure that people know exactly what they are buying and why the names and logos are no guarantee of anything (good or bad).
very strange, mine doesn't reorient the video as yours does. regardless of what position it is in when i power it up and or when i start a recording.... i just read that it depends on your playback software, which needs the ability to read exim data from the footage which orients the playback of the video
We just got these in at work and I was thinking of getting one, with my discount its affordable enough to get to just play around with... Thanks for the review!
i've seen mentions of this camera before and it does look pretty decent for what it is capable of :) maybe they will make a little case that will let you attache it to a tripod? that would be cool!
If you had watched all the video you would of seen it mentioned that there is a case and a tripod mount and a few other items being released for it. :-)
Really impressive little thing! By the way, I traveled down to Manchester from Scotland in the summer and wandered into the arndale center. I must say it was quite sad how excited I was to be where most of your videos are filmed!
That was one of the best review I have ever seem. And I mean in general. You explained every aspect of it, you were clear and right on point. Took away most of my doubts about this camera. Excellent work! Thumbs up for this video!
I would doubt it because it doesn't seem to come with a way to hook it up to a monitor/computer, but to be honest I'm not sure. If it did though it would look awesome. And yes Daniel Michael, He isn't kidding I see him in comment sections almost as much as I see pressfarttocontinue!
Joe Mauri Well true, but you could also use it as a video camera so it could double as both. But as a stand alone webcam its not worth it, logitech has MUCH better webcams for the same price.
OK, this thing is old now (2020), but also down to $26 shipped, and appears to have better image quality than some of the cheap chinese action cams on Amazon depending on your use, besides the "useful" magnetic mount (i didn't have trouble imagining steel mount points that aren't stainless...). Note that most any decent video editor can flip the image for you any way you need to... You can now also get the tripod mount, a suction mount, a sticky mount, and a bike mount all about HALF the prices shown in the video, so that means, for example a $36 version of this can include a tripod mount...
Thanks for the review! I've had the cube for over a month and I had no idea about the orientation option when you power it on or that the back piece will stick to the magnet. So thanks, man. Nice work. And like some other folks you've spoken with, I do love the magnet. Not so much for finding steel out in the world to stick it on, but the fact that you can find bits and bobs in your garage to make your own sort of mounts.
Great video...very helpful. I bought one of these on Amazon with the waterproof case, which should arrive in a day or two. Seems like a great deal for $65.
Jacob Mason petrolhead spotted! you on Carthrottle? I'm just sittin here researching a future Vlog camera and I scrolled past a petrolhead statement. had to ask.
Many thanks for the download link! I have 2 Mobius cameras, one I use as a dash cam with a super capacitor swapped out for the battery. The big reason I may buy the Polaroid is that it just went on sale for $69 and since its weather proof, will hold up better than the Mobius. But the Mobius has so many more features like time lapse!
One of the best reviews ever and very nicely paced. It has been very helpfull and answered most of my Questions. I like your review style. Will subscribe.
The magnet is a great and useful part of this camera. Lots of stuff in my life is metal. I stuck it to the roof of my Jeep and drove down the road at over 60mph and it stayed on the entire 40 minute drive! On my Kayak, I have a metal plate under the carry handle. The camera sticks quite well to the plastic kayak magetized through the kayak and holding onto the metal plate. I took the metal plate that came with the packaging and epoxy'd a 10X20 nut to the plate. Now, it has a threaded camera mount! I went to my local hardware shop and purchased some metal sheet and cut out my own metal squares. Now I not only have a camera mount, I have a velcro mount, a 3M quick release mount, a suction cup mount, and a special mount I created that allows you to use rubberbands or bungies to hold it in place!
Hmm interesting.. I've always been a sucker for cubes and I also really like action camera's :) I hope they'll make a mount for it that lets you use their waterproof case and connect it to GoPro attachments :)
my friend once told me about this amazing neat looking magnet! it's cube shaped and has wonderful colours! best magnet you can ever get.....oh yes, and it also have a built in camera if you're into cameras! great magnet! :) !
Well, Instagram ripped of Polariod. Their old logo basically was a stylized Polaroid camera, probably because the target group (hipsters) loved Polaroids. Then some Holding bought the brand and Instagram changed their logo (what a coincidence)...
Good review, and thanks for the tip about the orientation sensor; I've had one for a while and didn't knw about that. You keep saying hw the magnet is not useful; I disagree. It is good for sticking it to your car body or steel bumper, and I've also found that it sticks pretty well to the strings on the headstock of my bass guitar. For using it with a tripod, go to a hardware store and buy a 1/4" steel T-nut (maybe file down the sharp edges) and you have an instant tripod mount for your Cube. One final note: I've found that this thing records loud sounds (like a rock band) pretty well. I've had issues with my phone getting really distorted but the Cube seems to do okay.
I never thought in my life i would see such good images and video coming from a thing smaller than your pinky!. I`m quite impressed. Although the sound was indeed a little low quality. But coming from a little square toy , i guess it`s okay for now.Who knows 2 or 4 years from now.
Just get the new cheap gopro. It is superior to this piece of crap. Gopro is waterproof and has tons of accessories. Gopro has replaceable batteries and a screen.
Midas Haltzern Variety is the spice of life - some people may like this camera. However if they (or you) would also like to see my review of the Budget GoPro then here it is ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EASnXTyRYE8.html
We had a couple of those that we used to use for field aid research at university. The lack of auto stabilization on video wasn’t much of a downside since we used a small mechanical stabilizer mount we adapted for it but it was still a big hassle. The cameras themselves were also not stock, for one we changed the magnet for a stronger one and put a protection film between it and the camera to prevent EMI and because the process of changing that was mostly destructive, we commissioned clear polycarb shells as replacement for the original pastel color shells they came with. All because we didn’t have access to the optionals for it at the time. Eventually the original couple got given away to one of the group members for another study and we got a new set of them with polycarb protective shells and used something akin to SwitchBots to record video from a distance (basically a RF receiver on a solenoid that activated a small piston to do the button presses required for recording from a few feet away). Pretty nifty thing, that camera. But let’s say that they are not that blast proof.
Ordered one of these from Amazon and it was the magnet which sold it, for me. Reason being, I have little self adhesive metal disks, about the size of a 10p. Going to stick one on my cars dashboard and use it as a dash cam. Saves messing about with suction cups and clipping cameras in and out of mounts.
Didn't know they finally got the scaffolding off St Anne's church! Might have to pop by later and take some pics. And this camera is a bit tempting, it's footprint is much smaller than the gopro; so it's great for mounting onto a hotshoe or something like that. Is not too wide.
Looks like one of the best ones you have reviewed, I just hope the price is not outrageous. I was wondering if it auto orientated itself, glad to see it does quite nicely.
Great quality video for me, the only real use is that it's very small, so you can put it into compact places while still getting good video quality. For me it beats the Hero but none of the other GoPros.
That's a Great review. Thanks, looking for a present for my nephew and i think i'll get him one. The video quality looks good and we all love the magnet!!
Crazy watching this and your samples are scenes of Manchester, then the car scene, was that Standish and Parbold? I used to live right near there. Nice to see some footage of home :)
