For real! I don't want a fully electric car, but a plug in hybrid sounds great! I do want something sporty though, like my Mustang I drive now, and this is the only car I've ever seen that fits such a category!

these cost $150k and uhh most people in this price range are usually looking for stuff like continentals and 911s, and not a 4 cyl hybrid, as cool as the tech may be

I drive a van for work and some days Ill put 5 miles on it, and others I've done over 200 just running around to various calls. Having A hybrid option like this as a van would be fantastic for both my companies fuel costs (our vans average 12mpg) as well as my sanity driving because it would reduce noise and make it much easier to get to speed

@@user59371 True I agree but this car and many other coupes have literally no space for normal stuff. Literally nothing can fit in this besides maybe like a few groceries and some smaller thing's. Also having a car like this means you can only have one passenger at a time. I think small or medium size sedans are better because they're in between something like this and a crossover. Plus you get four seats.

Driven both the Polestar 1 and 2. The 1 is very unique. Incredible power, kinda reminds me of the Bentley Conti GT. The Polestar 2 is better as a daily though. Still extremely capable and rapid.

I think a plug-in hybrid makes the most sense for everyone, not just enthusiasts. We haven't figured out how to make full EVs work on a massive scale yet, either from an infrastructure standpoint, or an environmental one. The impact we have on the environment goes beyond what is spat out of the exhaust; the manufacturing and mining takes a toll as well. I hope plug-in hybrids will bridge the gap between the two extremes until we can scale a more environmentally viable product either via breakthroughs in battery tech or some other method of energy.

Great video, This car is honestly my dream car. I don’t care what the M850i can do or other rivals for that matter, I like this polestar as it is unique, it goes about its ways with a completely different approach. Although hardly anybody is talking about the polestar 1 at the moment, they will in 30-40 years time when it is a piece of beautiful history

I'm not anti EV, I'm anti leasing forever subscription based dealer software required for literally everything. If you're an enthusiast & you make less than $80-100k ish a yr, there's no automotive future for you. Sell those tools & save up for those subscriptions & dealer rates!

EV power and the way it shows it's acceleration, is great, it's going there regardless if we want it or not. BUT 5,100lb coupe (heavier than a Challenger Hellcat), a 9,000lb Hummer (though ironically still a Hummer) or a Lightning/Rivian you can tow with, but not far enough without range anxiety x1000. It's still a high ceiling priced market to get into if your brand isn't Tesla. High 5 to low-mid 6 figure price range for anything regardless of if you "cross shop" or not, they are still cellphone batteries, a cost to replace like an engine, but with an engine you can go to a junkyard, rescue a LS, and have a 400hp junkyard swap or order a crate for a fair price... Today they are great, in 5, 10...20 years, who knows.

@@Addison0526 not only that, but getting that $30k Tesla & it's almost guaranteed you'll have a $15k repair bill for a cracked coolant flange (calling for battery replacement), just a battery replacement, or even a cracked windshield calling for the entire glass roof to also be removed. That's the future!

I love the idea of PHEVs but I have too much mechanical sympathy. In hybrid mode, if I need to get on it to merge, it would kill me every time the gas motor instantly spools up to 3k+ rpm regardless of if it’s warmed up

@@summerofsteroids lower viscosity oils and modern metallurgy/coated surfaces like cylinder walls and bearings help but you still can’t beat physics. Thermal expansion means the clearances will still be out of spec and oil will still be more viscous and out of the proper operating temperature of the additive packages until it’s all the way up to temp but most people won’t notice the extra wear since the motor is used less. Plus very few people keep these cars long enough to notice the consequences

I don’t see it appreciating in value (some car Mags claim) when it’s $140k. It’s essentially an S60 coupe, with a very rare engine most won’t know how to work on, with a crystal drive selector. How?🤨

Here is my concern about heavy electric cars, its not about the tires. They will adjust, its about the roads which are atrocious as they are and cars get heavier and heavier and on mass which is a killer for the already bad roads

Any thoughts on the Aptera? That 1000 mile capable, 3 wheel EV that's gonna be going into production and shipping to people (if I remember correctly) as of mid 2023? I'm considering saving up and getting that as my first new car in life, because as a daily, even with just the base model with 250 miles of range, that's really incredibly good. And if I can afford and save for the top trim, with 40 miles of solar, 1000 miles total, like... that's just ridiculous. That thing right now seems to be the most impressive EV coming to the market, I'm excited for it.

Is the myth still going that you need to turn ac off for full power? Not true, car makers very usually switch the ac comp off when they detect full throttle. 1. Because very high revs are not good for the ac pump 2. They want the full engine power, 1 kW or so that the ac takes

I’m what would probably be considered as extremely anti-BEV (battery electric vehicle), I don’t think they make much sense, there are a lot of safety issues which everyone refuse to talk about and I fail to see how going from one environmental issue to another will fix anything. Personally I think Bio fuels and HFCEVs (Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle) are a way better way forward. But i also have to say that “People will start buying EVs when EVs start to make economic sense” something i have said for years now, not that anyone listens since EVs are ether ridiculously expensive or lack the range needed for them to be useful.

I like the Polestar 1 because of how unique it is, but I really dislike plug in cars in general. They just carry so much unnecessary weight with them. Many fellas will find it confusing to have to charge up and fuel up. It's likely that most people will mainly do one and then they could've bought a cheaper, ligher and more space efficient car. I think your talking about "let them test electric driving a little bit" is cute, but really, if you have that little knowledge about how cars work, just take the bus.

Volvo is a cool manufacturer but Polestar should have a different interior design. It's boring and old from 2016. I would buy the Polestar 1 over the 2 model as it has so little range.

Not sure I understand. This still is a hybrid car that charges like any other hybrid car. But also allows you to plug in so you can use even cheaper energy than the cost of using an engine to charge, like non plug ins.

You can find them in the latest Toyoda's en mazda's (at least in europe were the yaris and mazda 2 and 3 are mild-hybrids). But I fully agree with what you said! Thought not if I could own it myself since I'll be soon in th young 20's.

@@Cultured78 Mild hybrids don’t do much for efficiency, mostly just allow for smoother start-stop systems, and create a little torque for smoother initial acceleration.
