Baddy 1 "We need a getaway car for an armed robbery. We need excellent handling, the speed to outrun anything and bulletproof reliability". Baddy 2 "I know just the car".
My parents had one of these Rovers and on a D plate, too. I thought it was cool as you like because this bad boy car was the first we had where you had an arm rest in the middle of the back seats! Oh, and electric windows. 😎
Anyone else reckon after watching these 1980's early 90s video's everything looks so much better? I really can't describe it, everything just looks so much more simple and more honest.
fun fact, all A, K and S series engined rovers came with a built in smoke screen feature as standard. Good old British engineering, Why didnt Bond have one?
The fact that this was apparently filmed the year or year before I was born (1997) makes me feel so ancient! The blue spinning lights on the unmarked police cars and the two-tone "nee-naw" sirens are just incredible to me... Awesome footage!!!
@@eccIefechan So it's actually a whole year older than me and therefore 24 years ago! One big thing I noticed was how differently the cars handled compared to modern cars which could zip around those corners and weave in and out of traffic with ease. These old Rovers looked quite unsteady in comparison and even quite precarious at times (a lot of body roll!).
lol I remember as a youngster nicking dozens and dozens of cars like that, you didnt need tools or anything, I actually got in to a fully locked metro and started it too whilst only using a stiff short stick from a tree!!!! Really all you needed for pretty much all of them was one of those old swis army knifes, the little nail file got in to anything so easily, with the little buttons we used to have, put in lock and turn hard and up comes that button, break steering lock, hand under dash rip plastic off to reveal ignition wires, grab um and pull and out came the little black box with a hole in it, put nail file into that hole and away you go lol Those were the days, altho i stopped anything like that when I reached around 16 and realised people work hard for what they have and no one has a right to touch thier stuff but really thinking about it, I just miss being a teenager as everything was better, getting old is not fun lol
@@calum1741 Oh godddd , now I think about it, we probably nicked more of those than anything else, well if not then its close to a winner lol Jesus that brings back memories, they were everywhere, those and metros, oh and the crazy sexy maestro lol Come to think of it Im remembering tons of cars now but my god astras everywhere. Id love to see one of those now, havent seen or nicked one in years lol
@sorryunlucky I'm afraid not. The "5987" is definitely not a date. There are countless 90s cars visible in the video, particularly the Rover police car which would be from 1992 at the earliest as well as numerous parked cars.
TV show is "X-cars" from 1997. It's the TVCU who were targeting Manchester's rampant car crime of the mid 90s. They ran all sorts of fast (for the time) kit, Sierra Cossies, Cavalier/Astra GSi, Escort RS2000s and the Rover 200/400 turbos.

Lmao, a rover 213/216 as a getaway car, not the brightest of criminals. Used to love watching X cars on bbc, they had some well tasty motors, cosworths, subaru's etc With some great chases. Well better than the crappy cop shows they show nowadays, "PC legbreaker decides to have a word with this motorist who is not wearing a seatbelt" " hello sir, do you know i could fine you £1000 for not wearing a seatbelt but because the tv film crew is here i am going to appear really nice and not batter the shit out of you with my truncheon"
Looks like a mot fail anyway. New rings and valve guide seals at the very least. Better off with the insurance on a smokey old piece of shite like that
GMP hated me and my mates 😂 One of my friends took Chase in reverse around the estate for over 20min . Every passage way now has been blocked . And police installed CCTV cameras on the estate to watch 24 hours a day 🤯
