I’ve been retired 21 years and in my day the duty belt consisted of your revolver, 12 extra rounds in a double dump pouch (six rounds each), a handcuff case and a holder for your stick. A stick was something I never carried b/c I preferred to use a blackjack in my back pocket. I did keep my nightstick in the cruiser just in case the sergeant inspected me. Portable radios came along after I’d been on the department (30 years) about 10 years.

WOW my grandfather was a Milwaukee Wisconsin police officer after WW2 he was a US Marine. 1945 he got on I remember he let me put on his belt playing a officer watching Adam 12 and police story! He retired in 1970. He used a Safariland Basket weave Sam Brown belt, garrison belt. He had 2 holsters one was on a swivel and the other was on just holster loop. He carried his key holder, weapon holster, handcuffs. Left side he had his open bullet loop pad before drop pouches came out then switched to them. Pencil pen holder, Flashlight loop steel ring. Straight wooden knight stick with steel ring and a black jack! In his pocket. No hand held radios in them days. He wore suspenders blue shirt pants and wool jacket with silver buttons down the front. Black combat boots. My uncle came home from Vietnam 1973. He got on Greenfield PD in Wisconsin 1975. He wore the same Safariland Basket weave Sam Brown Belt and Garrison belt to. Leather black jackets and navy blue shirt and light blue pants. On His duty belt he had his key holder, gun holster clam shell and swivel one to. Handcuffs. Left side he had his 2 speed loaders, flashlight steel ring, straight black nightstick and steel loop holder and radio pouch. He had a black jack to like you! Both carried 38 Colt police specials, 357 Colt Pythons. Off duty they carried their Marine Corps 1911A1 45 Cal ACP. And their Colt 38 special snub nose to.

WOW thats awesome to hear. Get's me motivated to do more.
@Mrsupernoms
@Mrsupernoms 6 лет назад
Totally recommend you go with the safariland, Serpa holster have been banned from use in many departments because of the ability for both mechanisms to be jammed, aswell as the release placing pressure towards the trigger making it easier to discharge when you draw by accident, most safariland holsters have 3 stage retention aswell, I'm assuming yours dosn't have the ALS system in it since you mention you don't like having a mechanism to rely on?
@NickOFFDuty

@Mrsupernoms
@Mrsupernoms 6 лет назад
Nick OFF Duty most likely just the SLS retention then. I have a safariland that uses two retention points. Some just have the hood guard which is known as the SLS.
@RyanMiller3039
@RyanMiller3039 6 лет назад
Quinn I'm pretty sure most departments that use the SLS also use the ALS.
@Mrsupernoms
@Mrsupernoms 6 лет назад
RyanMiller3039 true. Some use only ALS. They take the hood off and just roll with the level 2 retention, makes for a quick draw.

Hey Nick great vid! I’m a high school senior going to apply in 2 years when I’m old enough but since you’re smart about duty belt placement I just wanted to input my thoughts. I would put my mag holders horizontally instead of vertically ( mostly because I’m on the fatter side ). HOWEVER, when you’re crouched it’s going to be a lot harder getting those mags out because your body is parallel with the pouch. It slides right out when it’s horizontally and a lot quicker to pull out vs when it’s vertically.

Good job getting rid of the Serpa. I am carrying the Safariland Model 7354-SP6 7TS ALS-UFA (drop thigh with paddle) for our new .357 SIG P320. I'm loving it and I haven't had any problems with it fitting my Surefire X400V-IRc(nor my personal X400U). I carry it conjunction with a Safariland Model M775 Slimline triple magazine pouch, which allows for my three additional 18-round magazines. I can get the 7TS holster customized to fit a Trijicon RMR too, when we order the P320RX Slides. 72+1 rounds of .357 SIG is a huge step up(and a lot of weight down) for us, considering that we were carrying the, .45 ACP Wilson Combat CQB with X400V's and, six 8-round magazines before this swap over - they're still our off duty sidearms, if we want, or we had the limited (and very rare) chance to private purchase them directly from our agency (which I did with mine.). The 7TS holster was $235 with shipping and the M775SL was $32.99 with shipping(both are LEO Income Tax deductible from the IRS).

Great video and duty belt set up to. I have my PR-24 in the trunk of my squad for riots and other stuff. I keep my oc spray on the right side of duty belt infront of my weapon and my keys infront of my oc spray right side. Everything else's is on the left side. Galls and Strikers are the 2 best uniform stores any time. But they don't carry much you have to order equipment. Stay safe Nick.

Hey Nick, Great video as always. If I may make a suggestion: I would recommend setting up your duty belt (on and off duty) using the Hindi System (Google Hindi System). Additionally, I would replace your ASP baton with with an Auto-lock Monadnock baton with a Hindi cap. In any case, keep up the great work.

My hint for some episode: Tell us about different types of police work with police car - I was always curious why Highway patrol car is supervising for Ex. working workers in the middle line of Collins Avenue in Miami Beach. The policeman sits the whole day in the car and pays attention? Max from Europe.

Personally with the years of experience in law enforcement and as a firearms instructor, I never liked the Blackhawk holsters. Never did and never will. It's a very dangerous holster and plus I never understood why the release button on the outside of the holster is where it is. As a firearms instructor... this is a recipe for a disaster. That is an accidental discharge waiting to happen. The Pointer finger is too close to the trigger guard when holstering and unholstering your firearm. Too many videos of an accidental discharges and people accidentally shooting themselves in the leg with Blackhawk holsters. Very bad design. No matter what, in an emergency situation and with your adrenaline punping... accidents can happen. And one way to prevent an accidental discharge is by using the right holster and right duty gear. I would stick and I strongly recommend Safariland holsters.

@ Nick your department along with EVERY OTHER Police Department in the US needs to allow for Load Bearing Vests. Here in Australia, Every Police Agency issues load bearing vests. They're so much better than the old belt style. I'm a Queensland Police Officers son so I handle the duty gear all the time. We also use Saflok Mk5 Handcuffs as well. If you haven't used a set then get your hands on some. Best handcuffs around. I will try and send some pics and links via Miami PD Facebook page or somthing since you don't have one.

Hey brother, maybe you could chat with other LEOs to see some of the different set ups they carry. Personally, I have 2 different duty belts depending on my assigned task/unit I'm in with lots of different tools/gadgets.

Hey Nick, awesome video. I just got into your off-duty channel. I'd like to know if it would be possible for you to do a video showcasing the long guns you guys take on patrol? Thanks!

curious about other officers and why they choose their setup. especially those who can put stuff on their vest like k9

great review of the set up though the real test how does it hold up when on duty and working, also would it be better to get the mag pouch from Safariland and do a lot of officers put there cuff up front for the reasons of keeping the lower back area clear. I am eager to know how the Galls equipment holds up against bianchi

Awesome videos man. I live in Miami (down close to Homestead). I've been watching many of your videos recently. I had a couple of questions, some you can choose to answer, some not. I completely understand. What's starting salary like, and what are the options to step up from there? Do you have an option to carry your own personal firearm? Do you have an option of carrying something bigger (Like shotgun or AR) in your vehicle? I know not every day is the same but can you give me a general idea of how many hours you do in a week? I'm starting my criminal justice career soon and I wanted some insight from a police officer (specially someone with years of experience as yourself) and compare them to other jobs I have eyes on like maritime enforcement, FBI, etc. I'd really appreciate your response. Once again, awesome videos!

This is my idea, They should make special pockets in pants to hold magazines, and just draw slide it across you let and you are ready to fire.

Yes that’s true but why would it be blocked by dirt unless your scuffleing with someone,wouldn’t you already have your gun out if they came at you?
