Police Impound Unregistered Van During Homeless Encampment Cleanup in Venice

On Wednesday, July 3, 2024, a significant cleanup operation took place along Penmar Avenue in the Venice neighborhood of Los Angeles, involving the impounding of an unregistered van. The City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works, in collaboration with Clean Harbors Environmental Inc., spearheaded the effort to clear the area of vehicles associated with a local homeless encampment.
As part of the operation, the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) was present on site, providing outreach and support to the homeless individuals affected by the cleanup. This included offering essential resources to those displaced by the towing of vehicles.
The cleanup was coordinated by multiple city departments under the supervision of Councilwoman Traci Park's Housing Coordinator. This initiative reflected a robust collaboration focused on adhering to city regulations while upholding high standards of cleanliness and public hygiene.
This comprehensive effort highlights the City of Los Angeles' dedication to addressing public health and safety concerns, demonstrating a balanced approach of enforcement combined with compassion in managing the challenges associated with homelessness.

I am one of many community members fighting to remove the RVs and Tent campers, because we are tired of them taking over the park and all the stealing, trespassing, drug dealing, toxic waste, trash, vermin, rats, cockroaches and constant noise in the neighborhood. The community wants daily enforcement. 🚔👮

To anyone with clear thinking homeless people should not be permitted to have pets living in public spaces. It should go under the umbrella of animal abuse. Many of them use the animals as a ploy to garner sympathy for panhandling. Not all of course but many. I’ve seen them on the streets begging for money to feed their pets when we know darn well they are buying drugs. The government needs to end this abuse.

The Sacramento Co. Sheriff did a year long survey reaching out to 1000 homeless and only 2 homeless people accepted help. The remaining only would accept cash. They refused all free services…food, clothing, temporary housing…they only wanted cash. The majority of homeless are just like those 998…they don’t want to be told what to do or have any kind of responsibility. Too bad so sad, society and communities are sick of this issue and don’t want to see them and their crap, destroying every environment they camp on.

This needs to be patrolled at least 3 to 4 times a week and cleared out. They’ll get the message and move on to downtown or elsewhere. I can’t imagine having to live with unstable homeless people camping out all around my house. I am a California native that reached the conclusion that I could no longer afford to live in Southern California any longer because housing has become too expensive, so I moved out of that State to one that is less expensive to live in - and I figured all that out BEFORE I ended up becoming homeless. I feel sorry the cyclist that lost his bikes. He probably was already sad he wasn't racing the Tour de France. I hope he stays motivated to keep up with his training. Maybe he can try for TDF in 2025. He is clearly dedicated to bikes. So he just probably needs to put in the proper training.

I get wanting to have material things... And all... However... When you are homeless... I would imagine that it would be much more EZY... Too have less... Holding you down... Then when you have everything... Just piled on top of each other... It is simply a big pile of waste... Holding you back... Bringing unwanted attention... With more too worry about... People that say the home less treat there animals better then most people are full of shit having worked with home less the animals are mistreated they are beaten,starved, keep in milk crates , tired to bike parts. The suffering these animals go through it unbelievable.. we once had a guy that was kidnapping cats putting the poor cats in his pile of garbage and the poor things were freezing to death. He did it to tons of cats we keep reporting him but he would move around so police were constantly stopping him looking for dead cats so heartbreaking..

This guy had everything he thought valuable enough to keep strapped to to his vehicle/home. They took away all he held dear, for violations he couldnt pay. No matter what those valuables looks like to someone else like me or you, it was all he had from a life accumulated from living on the streets for years. Make it someone elses problem or worse is all I see on comments, Sad.
