They say the crazy caricature sketches actually help a case more because they're so unforgettable and certain distinguishable features are exaggerated. Some police sculptors and sketch artists say they rely on angelic guidance for direction.
In the words of IDK Sterling himself “yet another useless bit of information” 😂😂😂 But thanks…. ( if you been around this channel long enough you’ll get the joke)
The composite sketch cannot be embellished to make it more aesthetically pleasing. It is comparative analysis evidence, similar to latent fingerprint analysis. Sometimes there is a good, complete usable fingerprint left at a crime scene, sometimes just a partial; a latent print technician cannot lift a print that isn’t there. Well, it’s the same for composite sketches of unknown criminal offenders. An active witness is frequently under duress while seeing the face of a criminal offender as the criminal offense is happening. In a cognitive interview, a witness/victim, is discouraged from adding details they cannot recall, which is why so many sketches can seem unfinished. Generally speaking, a composite sketch is only attempted after all other means of identification have been exhausted and often take place weeks if not months or years into an investigation. ~a police sketch artist
It’s also worth noting that police sketch artists tend to exaggerate identifying features, because people tend to do so as well, so someone who has seen a sketch of someone with very big intense eyes will identify the person the sketch is of by their very intense gaze as that will be what strikes them the most
Even if the sketches are bad, they got the job done and captured the suspects. Well done. Its funny how some of the works she made are rather poorly sketched but... they still helped get the job done. Wow.
For people wondering why it helps catch suspects it's because these artists find a detail that stands out and focuses on it. Think of something physical about your face that makes you stand out from everyone else, for me it would be my eyes which is what they would focus on. This is why some sketches look very uncanny and creepy!
I remember the one that had the pointy chin where you can almost hear the news anchor giggling as to how baffling the drawing is but they still caught the dude
As long as it has some connection to reality it can help with catching the suspect. Problem is if your sketch can be easily misunderstood you might catch the wrong person or take too long at catching the suspect
At this point I think they do bets as to who gets to capture suspects based on the worst drawings. The cop that does it based on a stick man would definitely win
if they made a Medal for Louise Gibson then they can give it to her as for her work of catching a thousand criminals. no one does a better sketch like Louise Gibson
