Just a reminder that *evading the police is not a capital offense*. Running from the police isn't capital offense. Neither is theft. Neither is selling cigarettes/dvds on a corner. Neither is holding a weapon in an open carry state. Neither is squirming uncomfortably in ones handcuffs. Being rude to an officer is not a capital offense. Being homeless is not a capital office. Resisting arrest is not a capital offense. So many people are so eager to throw their rights away. Be careful that the kowtowing you all do when the police are involved in the murders of unarmed people doesn't become mandatory. And be cautious that the freedom to the life that you all so carelessly dismiss for others doesn't suddenly disappear in the face of your biased sufferance.
This is why I watch you. This is why I listen to you. You're father was a wonderful man.a humanitarian. A giver. Your father raised you to become the person you are and I'll bet you would say of your father,'. I could never fill my father's shoes'. If he were here he'd say you have. You are articulate, honest, intelligent and caring. I've watched you for a very long time. I look forward to listening to you talk truth about any given topic. Thank you a trillion times over for being a Patriot and loving our country like you do. Always keep it 💯! 👍🏼❤️😘
Cydp Palley Well said and way better than I could ever articulate! Lawrence is one of only 2 people I watch on MSNBC. Rachel is the other. I love how she takes us on a history lesson! I occasionally watch Joy Reid or Ari!
while i ofc 100% agree with what he said i dont think today its a difficult conversations to start. The public opinion is very much in his favor (even abroad i'm european and i know theres a huge problem of police violence against black ppl in america) unless you're tallking about back then. what he did in 79 and what is father did was worth a thousand bravos
I'm talking about bringing it up back then, putting his views and findings in writing and then continuing to discuss it years later despite push back. Public opinion worldwide is in his favour? Perhaps. But in America you will still find many who do not believe that it is an issue. Simply look at how the NFL and many Americans view the players kneeling to bring awareness to the issue...People don't want to talk about it. People don't like to be uncomfortable. The truth is change never comes when people are comfortable.
Thank you so much for this report. And thank you for following in your fathers footsteps..... to bring understanding, truth, and justice to underserved community members.
Thank you for your capacity to tell the truth. We need to know the Truth to feel Comforted and safe. It makes me sad hearing this story It's something that never should have happened!
Now or with the higher power knows what was in his heart Karma he'll pay plus they showed up marching at his house while he wears an ankle monitor and being sued along with the college he worked at by two black men before becoming a police so yes he's paying !
The police are doing what they have been told to do. It is illegal to be Black in America, and there is a war being waged against Black people in america.
VelmaB1 lol. Go do a ride along with an inner city police officer during a shift with high call volume and see if u still have the same opinion. I’d imagine when you’re going from assault to shooting to domestic to mental to murder to carjacking you’ll see what they deal with
dmoneyas24 Miss me with your blinkered, white privileged outlook. Unless you know what Black people have to face in america, which you clearly don't, I have zero interest in your opinions.
Brooke Bradford: I feel you. I would have left it at thanks to Lawrence but took the opportunity to respond to an Apologist, (above) and doing some research on a completely different topic as folks who justify police excesses always want to introduce extraneous arguments.
You have to remember it has to start somewhere. People are getting fed up. More and more you will see police being held accountable because video is everwhere.
Jesse Ramirez as an american cop killings has got to stop now quit murdering my brothers and sisters because of the color of their skin. I hope all rasist turn black and get HUNG the way they still do to day how sick we AMERICANS have become. I m so sorry to be an american right now.
Jesse Ramirez Yep, but that's so often the case for people who run around with guns shooting up their neighbourhood. It's known as 'natural selection'. Maybe he should have spent his time writing poetry instead.
Typical SMH an I'm tired of some ppl saying it's only a small percentage of corrupt cops..if it's so many good cops it wouldn't be so many bad ones..one bad apple can rotten the whole bunch.. thanks Lawrence I love ya show
That was a moving thoughtful and informative. In Seattle and I believe all across the country this is a reality. In Seattle a few years ago a native american carver with headphones on was killed 8 seconds after a policeman exited his car and did not hear any warnings. The patrolman was reprimanded never charged with his crime. Murder straight up.
Great piece. I think, now that there is a confirmed racist as president, and a confirmed racist as AG , that there will be more and more of these incidents. We may never hear of them, though. Just like in the past.
Janna Nijland Yes, I think the police might have been preoccupied with protecting all the other beautiful people who weren't involved in a drive-by shooting earlier that day. He gets no pity from me. If you don't want to get killed, a good tactic is not to run around shooting at others.
Police need to be held accountable just like they hold us.. More of internal inventions by Auditors needs to be done on all shootings... They dont want this because, will lead to cops being jailed for killings. Possibly even some justified, where is the line drawn????
Reading a lot of comments and people seem really surprised at the fact that Lawrence is doing a peice like this. You guys are late. Mr. O'Donnell is always trying to shine a light on this type of Injustice.
I have been watching the Last Word with Mr. O'DONNELL for years now and have found him Bold and fearless in his quest and opinions for justice to be brought to light. A valuable quality in a human being. I wish there were more. You Rock Mr. O'Donnell.
M R yeah because we're going to get a lot of people that want to be police officers that have to wait till they get shot once 2 shoot back ..how about don't shoot at the cops
M R if someone pulled a gun out on you and your family would you wait till they shot at you and possibly hit you or would you shoot them first no difference
Kevin Bowers, no I would not. I was in the service. Where do you think I got the idea the "you do not fire unless fired upon from." Further more my parents are retired law enforcement, corrections to be exact. All I am asking for is the police use their backbones and show greater courage. We ask more of our military than we do our law enforcement and the standard needs to change. Do not fire unless fired upon would at least increase the justification of use of deadly force. We all pay taxes in one way or another and none of us should have a fear of death from the police.
This segment... So much power and impact. Thank you for your sevice and dedication to truth and justice for those young men no longer hear to advocate for thier selves. Bless both you& father for being such poineers of Criminal Justice Equality. Thank you!!!
That was powerful and needed to be said. Thanks for your hard work, & your father is a GREAT man & raised a HELLUVA son! As a black father with a teenage son, I worry every time my child walks out of the house & I stay constantly talking to him. To let him know that yes, you have to watch what you're doing. What you may presume as doing something innocent, someone might look at it the wrong way. But that's the world that we live in, which is sad. My heart goes out to all who've suffered due to the ignorance or/and cowardice of others, especially those who are supposed to uphold the law. Again, thanks for your work.👏
Richard Williams Eh, no. If a policeman is prosecuted for manslaughter, he could not "get away with murder". I agree that the jury may be guilty of not doing their duty, but I can only think of one example of this happening. That was in a case when a man (not a policeman) stabbed his wife and another person to death. He was acquitted solely because of the colour of his skin. The evidence condemning him was so overwhelmingly convincing that he himself looked utterly stunned on hearing the "not guilty" verdict.
What cop defenders don't want to admit is that BLACK MEN specifically have EVERY reason to run from cops....we are in fear for our lives EVERYTIME we encounter cops, even if we've done nothing wrong.....
Thank you, Lawrence. Sad, sad times we live in now and our history. Thank God for video. It may not change men's hearts but it may change the outcomes. Hopefully, everyday people who have been in denial will change their hearts when they actually SEE it and be willing to hold the guilty accountable.
