My son applied for the police force after serving his country in afgan , he was refused the impression he got was he was the wrong colour and he didnt fit the profile. Strangely he was awarded a medal from the army.
How about asylum seekers without CRB checks who get leave to remain get to work with vulnerable people and children.... No questions asked. Absolutely disgusting.
I was with Devon & Cornwall Police back in the 70 s after serving 9 years with the Royal Marines. The job is SO different now though and NOT for the better.
I have to admit to being confused by this vetting business: especially as it's being intimated that vetting wasn't carried out properly in the past. I left the British Army in 1982 having been vetted originally to Cat 3 PV, which meant I was able to view documents stamped secret SPOKE and secret UMBRA, then later, my vetting was upgraded to VRK (very restricted knowledge). When I joined my local county constabulary the same year, I was again subject to vetting back as far as my grandparents. The vetting included debts, loans, criminal history and political affiliations. I also had to provide details of those I had nominated as referees.
