So many government policies, initiatives, concepts, and ideas sound great. And yet, they don't seem to produce the intended results. Why? Well, politicians would have you believe that it's some nefarious force standing in the way of all of their good & great intentions! Today, we are going to go through the best sounding policies that don't work, and you may be surprised by some of them because they can be pretty popular.

In the 80s my mom was able to run a daycare center out of our home that was very affordable for her cleints. With all the government regulations, that is not an option anymore. Government is the biggest reason that daycare is no longer affordable.
@formes2388
@formes2388 2 месяца назад
I could understand a few things for a daycare: 1. Require a Food Safety Certification - really simple, fairly affordable, and it's good for several years at a time. 2. CPR/Emegency medical training - as a just in case something serious happens, it's a good idea. 3. Occasional health+safety inspector - again, something that is pretty damn cheap/affordable to manage. Total overhead cost shouldn't be more than ~300-800$ a year. And yes, I get it: It's a chunk of money - but if you want to ensure the person caring for kids is going to be reliable, and the place they are is safe this shouldn't be a big deal. My understanding that the actual regulations net a huge upfront cost, and ongoing costs to maintain, that actually don't offer real benefits. I mean to be blunt - you could target around 20-30$ a day, and keep to say 8ish as a limit of kids, and you have a pretty decent after costs revenue. Nothing amazing, but, something decent. And even more so - having talked to some moms that did this in years gone by, you would have some of them even help out young families where both parents needed to work but couldn't really afford daycare. The Commercialized system does not do that - and well, we can see the results... and it's nothing good.

@@formes2388sure sure…. Let me ask you… Do you get certified to make sure what you are feeding your kids are safe? Do you get regular safety inspections for your home to insure that your kids are safe? You see, most of the time these older day cares worked because we all kind of knew each other. A parent good enough to keep their own kid alive and happy is usually able to watch your kid the same way. While having those certificates might be a good marketing idea to make other parents feel safe, they are actually ridiculous. Most people cook and serve their family food regularly, we don’t need a stupid government agency saying I can safely cook food. Now most new parents take emergency cpr classes and stuff and have 911 for when things go full sideways. Stop making unnecessary demands that most people wouldn’t do for their own family.

On the day care. We added up how much my wife made after expenses. I ended up working two additional hours a week to allow my wife to stay at home with my daughter full time. My daughter could read before she started school because my wife taught her how to. Well worth two extra hours of work by me. For that two hours my house was cleaned before I got home and my family was much happier. Government day care would have been the far worse option.

Friend was a teacher in Washington State. The union renegotiated their benefits without consulting the teachers. They got the teachers health insurance to cover their spouses and kids, but it cost significantly more which came out of the teachers' paychecks, not the union dues or school budget. My friend, who is single with no kids, noticed the change in pay and investigated. That's the only reason he found out about it. The union simply didn't tell anyone who was single about the change even though they were paying for it. When he asked the union rep about going back to the old insurance coverage, they said that plan wasn't available on the new negotiation the union worked out. When he complained that he was paying more for the same coverage, they brushed him off stating he'd thank them when he started having kids. He wasn't even dating anyone at the time. The union refused to negotiate for him to get on the old insurance plan as it would require renegotiating the contract for all employees to let the employees have the option of which coverage plan they wanted. He withdrew from the teachers union and ended up moving to Kentucky to teach there instead.

Tariffs: nuance 1. there used to be tariffing as a general tax method. Until 1860, the Federal government was mostly financed by tariff [and land sales]. nuance 2. allowing a weak sector/industry to get strong enough to compete, patents serving much the same purpose. nuance 3. protecting a needed but weak industry (for military defense). This leads to two important wider questions A. how best to tax, assuming government, however small, needs some money B. how big should government be? What is the common vision? And C. provision for dire emergencies...

The tariff discussion was brilliant and it touched on so many facets of a free market economy. Especially over taxation and regulation of various industries. I live in Maine, since our founding the state relied on two natural resources for its economic prosperity : trees and the sea. Every coastal town had boatbuilders and fishermen, and now the boat builders are gone and fisherman are disappearing. Why, for two different reasons. Bath Iron Works is still producing superior quality US Navy warships, because it was capable of adapting from wooden shops and boats to steel. Most large fishing boats ate no longer made of wood, instead they've gone to hulls using more durable and less maintenance intensive materials like fiberglass, carbon fiber, and steel. The fishing industry is facing the same challenges that the forestry related industries faced. They are quite literally being regulated to death. Paper mills are all but gone now, the county I live in still has one, and tge only reason tge county isn't dead economically is because that paper mill is owned by a Chinese company. Between the state government regulators in Augusta and Federal regulators, almost every forestry related business has been regulated into death. Almost always in the name of "climate change" and "the environment ". While I am certain the Chinese company could care less about the long term economic health of Washington County Maine, neither does Augusta or Washington DC. The paper mill here would like to add two to four more tissue machines and facilities here, yet they run into regulatory walls and a second problem of no quality labor. Years ago our kids started fleeing the county for greener pastures and better job markets, basically leaving the high school dropouts and 3rd generation welfare moms, along with an aging population. But they have no desire to work because the state and federal government keep them fed through welfare programs. I'm 59, and my brother in law is 62 and a manager at the mill. In his younger days when a vacancy occurred at the mill there were hundreds of applicants, now they sometimes have zero applicants. The trade training programs have all disappeared, he is a master pipefitter that went through a years long training program, but kids these days will not committ to it, and the government doesn't incentivize trades training, instead dumping millions into bachelors college degrees like underwater lesbian dance theory or ancient babylonian astrology. Our high schools push college prep, and put minimal resources into trades based secondary education. I wonder who earns more money, the master or even journeyman pipe fitter or the blue haired, multi pronouned , bachelor of arts in Ancient Mayan Lesbian Slam Poetry????

One thing to add to government subsidies conversation, be it healthcare, education, childcare, or something else, is that since the government can extort payment they can guarantee it. And since they need to be "fair" they do not shop around. This means that it is easy for service providers to continually raise prices that they know the government will continue to pay. People trying to do without the government assistance still get hit with the higher prices, and if it gets to be too much they are told to turn to the government assistance programs. The government subsidizing industries redistributes resources, typically away from the poor they say they are protecting, and creates what amounts to choice monopolies. But this is all done with extra oversight, which means manpower and spending on wages, office space, etc. without adding any benefit beyond the program's existence, which is already a drain.

Nick, Always on point. One item(word) that I think you would do well to make use of, to potentially reach those not in the 'choir' and also to make more clear for some that may need to strenthen tools,.. is the use of the word "perceived" and or "mis-perceived". There are so many examples of where such insetion(s) will make your statements much more clear and powerful, to reach those that may have the mis-perceptions, of the issues that you expound upon.. Such as, what is the result of much of the government's interventions. Without this word (perception) in you dialog, you leave a statement perhaps sounding 'harsh' to those of certain 'perception', and then perhaps taken by those with a limited/mislead perception as "he is against humans.. see" . .. taken as a bite. There are those that have a perception, that the government is actually fixing a problem(s) . This was the focus of this episode. When you speak of their specific perception, of what may be the bad guys, you do not use the word perception, or "in their perception". That may be best prefaced with (example:)" in their perception (or mis-perception) the left often condemns honest messengers as bad guys to be silenced. Of course, insert the actual issue of debate as you near perfectly always do. Please take this as a constructive criticism, to apply for a farther reaching objective clarity . I know you can work it in your presentations, with the 'love' that may bring some further results . I can see that you do know that there are mislead persons and that all can benefit from opening to the facts that you present.

Your podcast is a recent favorite of mine. I love the various topics and discussions. More and more, when faced with everything that we see and have come to realize about the system, i just want to withdraw from society and the system completely. I feel that it is only going to continue to fail us until it totally collapses.

We choose in our family to sacrifice my additional income for me to stay home and raise our children. I was a full time Mom, and military spouse so a lot of that time was as a single parent without “family” to help. Luckily the military community is good with community parenting, if you choose it. Again a personal choice and we took the financial deficit to do. Our choice and I’m grateful we did it this way. But don’t get me started on my status financially or socially by doing it this way.

How about we get out spenders like Pete Buttigieg who spent $10 million on bike path along the Woonasquatucket River.? To make it "nicer"...meanwhile people are damaging suspension and driving into on coming traffic to avoid potholes. These pet projects have to go and people should be fired. A bike path should be a community fund raiser project....the transportation secretary should be fixing interstate highways.

So I have a $50,000 student loan. I haven't been paying on the loan and my credit score is really low. Because it's low, I can't get a lower interest rate for a home/car/XXXX loan. Now the government pays off my loan (not me). Does my credit score go up because I don't have the $50,000 loan anymore? I don't think the "Big 3" will consider that payoff responsible repayment!

I'm a valuation professional and actually did the math on Social Security vs the S&P 500 assuming a family earned the federal poverty level income for 50 years. Under Social Security when you retire you get to take a 25% pay cut, so you'll be below the poverty line by 25% for the rest of your life. Same contributions put in the S&P 500 would give you a 46% increase in annual income in retirement, drawing at 4%, and if you live to 90 you'll pass over $4M to your heirs. Why aren't we pushing this?

All men (mankind)are created equal. The beginning line of the constitution. Why doesn’t it say All white men are created equal? George Washington said that first line was put there to give the power to the people to end slavery & have a legal foundation & obligation to do it. It was also written for women. To again have a legal framework that would be used to ensure the equality of women. The founding fathers treated their slaves like brothers. They were well paid & well cared for. After Thomas Jefferson’s wife died. He fell in love with the slave who had helped him care for his wife. He couldn’t marry her even though that was his desire. It would have most likely ended with her death. He did have at least one child with her. Their posterity was found through DNA. The founding fathers were trying to create a country of equals. There were plenty who did not want that. Pres Washington gave the southern rich elites 20 year’s and no slavery. Only the rich could afford to keep slaves. Plus the rest of the country was against slavery. The only slave owners were the rich democrat southern elites. Not everyone was mean & treated slaves badly. Only those who thought themselves better than everyone else. The democrats attacked regular people if they helped slaves escape. They would burn their houses down, they would murder their families. They would pay people to not do business with them. When that 20 years was up, the president at the time tried to end slavery. And the democrats went nuts. Started to do smear campaigns and pretend the republicans were lying that it wasn’t slavery they care about but they wanted to take the businesses from the rich southern slave owners. And yet we had a civil war over ending slavery. Not rich southern businesses. And none of the people who fought on the union side tried to make slaves out of anyone. As the democrats were implying. The republicans voted in the first black politicians right after the war. What did democrats do? They formed the kkk trying to scare people into stop treating former slaves as equals. The current kkk leader supports the democrats. Think about that. Margaret Sanger a democrat started planned parenthood to end the black race. She made no bones about it. Do not under any circumstances think it’s okay to make the founding fathers sound insincere. Every person who signed the declaration of independence had their homes destroyed. Their livelihoods destroyed. Because they began a new country where the people wouldn’t pander to the elite! Apparently democrats never got that message! They are still doing the same things! Trying to make elites in charge of the rest of us. Telling us what to do with no evidence of their reasons to enslave all of us! BTW All men are created equal means all of mankind! Male & female, regardless of religion, race, or sex. The national anthem was created after the British army told General Washington that a stand off was in order. They said if we can shoot down the American flag then we win. If you keep it up you win. The British knowing the flag was on top of the supply building where all the women & children were also. Then the British stopped the American military from getting to that building. It was up to the women & children to keep that flag up. Once the flag pole had been cannon balled. Women & children held it up and the British kept shooting. As a woman or child died because they were hit by a cannonball another person took their place. All night long. That’s why we sing about the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air, all through the night our flag was still there! People from all over the world came here to worship God as they wanted and to make their own choices! And not to be infringed upon by politicians or the elites. Until you have studied this, seen the documents and read them, read the papers, journals, and everything we had prior to college or the internet. You research and get the whole picture before you slander someone who died to make sure you could think whatever you wanted and no one could infringe on that even if you were wrong! What have you done besides complain? Would you give up your life? Also I don’t hold the posterity of the British soldiers or the posterity of King George III responsible for their ancestors actions. You weren’t there, you don’t know how you would have acted had you been from their time. But they are better people than we are! They gave up their lives to make a country and others died to end slavery. You don’t the whole story. You don’t realize your comment is wrong. That is because you believe the people who want to have power over you and take away your choices. No people who have ever been on the planet have been perfect except Jesus. You are judging others by what you are told and you are being told what to think not how to think. You would see differently had you been given all the information and told to decide for yourselves. Had you looked at it without being influenced and flat out lied to. Now they are censoring us so we can’t see all of the story. Only what they want you to. This is why the founding fathers created the 1st amendment to stop what is happening now! But the democrats are fighting it. Saying we should censor speech! Do you want someone who has millions of dollars but only makes 125,000.00 a year to tell you what’s right & wrong? Where do they get those millions? Why isn’t inflation stopping them? How do they fly in private jets with the gas shortage they deliberately made? Could it be they have their own supply? Could they be using our tax money to launder it through a war perhaps, and get lot back? Elites start wars to get even richer. All that death & carnage so others who don’t care about you can get even more money! Nowadays it’s not just the democrats it’s the democrats who pretend to be republicans. Who gets hurt in wars? Those fighting it, and those paying for that fighting. I doubt the people of the country where the wars are would fight if they knew what they were fighting for. Elites like to use tax dollars to pay for what they want and be on the inside of the elites gang to help each other stay rich. And get more power and control to become more rich. Take off your dem colored glasses and start seeing things without their skewed vision.

It wasn't global trade that destroyed american manufacturing. It was federal and state subsidies and tariffs that encouraged American industry to not recapitalize. Case in point, the Bethlehem Steel foundry, was built in the early 1900s and was still operating when it shut down and everyone blamed NAFTA. Nobody asked why they were still using inefficient and outdated 80+ year old equipment. The same equipment my grandfather used there was the same equipment his dad had used and was the same equipment two generations after him used. Old kit is expensive to run. It takes more energy and absorbs maintenance budgets like crazy. This makes the steel more expensive to make.

Reperations could look like this . 66 bilion a year for the next 40 years from the military.... do a census of black/indigenous students in each school and use that as the pool... each school will get that their percentage of the pool, from the previous year from the money taken. it goes to the school, the more black/inginous the more the school gets, which helps educate the students..... The military however will need to create courses for knowledge they required for their solders... which every school despite how much or how little they get from the government MUST include and have as a requirement for graduation. that way every student that graduates has ALREADY completed basic training. (Make some exceptions for physical abilities and what have you obviously) (40 years is 1 rounds of k-12 plus 1 year for initial data and infrastructure)

I always believed that the reason why we can’t claim bankruptcy for college debt and hospital debt was because of what the guy explained. There’s nothing to take back for services rendered. The education cannot be removed from your head. The hospital cannot take the stitches out and reopen the wound. Which is understandable. But why are those only two forms of debt that are so ridiculously high priced and super over inflated. The price of education is not comparable with the amount of money that you can earn with the overpriced degree.

My husband and I moved cross country before we had kids, when we started our family, none of our parents, siblings, etc were near. Instead of putting our kids in daycare, my husband worked days and I worked a 6pm-230am shift. It was hard working opposing shifts but I think our kids were better off with one of us always with them. So many people refuse to think outside of the box. Why would you go to work just to pay for daycare? You would have to make double your cost of daycare to make it financially feasible. Meanwhile, your kids are raised by someone you don't really know who may be teaching them ideas that conflict with your own beliefs. {{cough cough}} like the current education system.

What would it take for Mr. E to be ok with College Student loan bailouts? 1. No future loans of this sort will be administered. 2. All publicly funded universities are to disband and liquidate all humanities programs. 3. All publicly funded colleges are to eliminate all useless degree programs and specialize all useful degree programs. 4. All private universities are forbidden from taking even a single dime in taxpayer funding. To do so is a felony. 5. All private institutes are to disband every DEI initiative, and can expect to see lawsuits pouring in by people who were unjustly affected by said lawsuit (no statute of limitations). 6. All gender and minority quotas are abolished. Enacting any of them is a felony. 7. Those who have completed their degrees will have an option: 1. Their student loans are discharged, but they lose said degree or 2. They pay back the remainder of the student loans and keep their degree. 8. The money recovered from liquidated humanities programs and DEI officials who are now out of a job will go to offset the student loan cost. I'm sure there are other things that can be done to solve this problem like, forever, but that is merely a start. What would it take for Mr. E to be ok with reparations? Nothing. That is something that should be off the table. That debt was settled long ago by the 450,000 men overwhelmingly white, I might add, who died to make you free and the well over 1,000,000 who sustained severe injuries, and I'll be god damned if I let this concept shit all over that sacrifice. I would offer them a choice. You have a one way ticket to whatever African nation you think you would thrive in. Take it and get out of the country, and never come back, or shut the fuck up about it. Besides, the thought of paying people who were never slaves for slavery by people who never owned slaves is entirely ridiculous and evil. What would make Mr. E to be ok with tariffs? 1. When an American company goes to another, they get tariffed to offset the unemployment they caused. 2. When a company is violating intellectual property and patent laws, they are tariffed and the proceeds are sent to the person holding the intellectual property owner. 3. If a country is imposing a tariff on US goods, they get them at the same rate across the board. Eye for an eye principle will apply here. 4. We would also not be entertaining Free Trade Agreements with anyone who doesn't agree to all of the following. What would make Mr. E to be ok with government oversight of.... Nothing. The government fucks up everything it touches. Social Security, Child care, everything... What would make Mr. E to be ok with any gun kontrol? Nothing. All gun kontrol laws are unconstitutional and evil, and all who espouse it are Nazi. Period. Death to Gun Kontrol.
