Polish MP uses fire extinguisher to snuff out Jewish menora in parliament

A far-right Polish MP turned a fire extinguisher on a Jewish menorah in Poland’s parliament building.
Grzegorz Braun caused a commotion with the stunt which came as MPs packed into parliament to watch Donald Tusk, the new prime minister, deliver a key policy speech.
The menorah had been lit to celebrate Hanukkah.
Video taken of the incident shows the MP grabbing a fire-extinguisher and then blasting the candles out on the menorah in the main hall of the parliament building.
A Jewish woman, who was in the parliament building to celebrate Hanukkah, was blasted in the face with foam as she tried to stop Mr Braun, which left her face and clothes covered in white powder.

Poza Grzegorzem Braunem nie ma tam katolików. Są jedynie ludzie którzy w TVP czy TVN podawali się za katolików ale postepują w opozycji do katolicyzmu. A dlaczego ? This problem is broader, it lies not only in candles and religion, but in double standards. One law for them, another for the rest. The church in Brzezinka (Birkenau) is beee for them and they chase people with Polish flags away from the commemorations in Auschwitz, even though Poles were also killed there but their candles in our parliament are supposed to be ok for us? Appropriating public and mental space without anything in return. While I gave an example about religion, it extends to other spheres as well.

Double standards do not exist in the Polish parliament. The Polish constitution speaks of the equal rights of all religions. The day after Hanukkah, a Christian event took place, followed by a Christmas Eve meeting later on. Several days later, there was a parliamentary Christmas Eve vigil. As evident, the parliament accommodates every religion, guaranteed by the constitution and laws that regulate the state's relationship with religious organizations.

Sejm jest instytucją niereligijną. Jeśli ma się stać instytucją religijną to niech będą w nim świętowane także Boże Narodzenie, Zielone Swiątki, Boże Ciało, Wielkanoc, muzułmański Ramadan, prawosławna Pascha, buddyjski Buddha Purnima i afrykańska Kwanza. Ale to by oznaczało ze krzyż z sali sejmowej wylatuje, z czym pan Braun by się raczej nie zgodził. Dziwne z reszta jak wszyscy nagle skoczyli do obrony niezależności państwa od wpływów religijnych podczas gdy wcześniej nie był to wogóle żaden problem jak tymi wpływami religijnymi było chrześcijaństwo. Zupełnie jakby był inny powód takiego sprzeciwienia do tej jednej konkretnej religii którą zaatakował pan Braun... Propaganda carska ma się w Polsce bardzo dobrze po 120+ latach...

The Polish parliament is not a religious institution. If it is to become a religious institution, let it also celebrate Christmas, Pentecost, Corpus Christi, Easter, Moslem Ramadan, Orthodox Passover, Buddhist Buddha Purnima and African Kwanza. Exceptions should not be made for only one religion because this would be religious discrimination. Mr Braun is right, not fa-right.

To był właśnie błąd bo gaśnica działa kilkanaście sekund i było ryzyko że zanim zgasi symbole nazistowskie to cały proszek się wytraci. Szkoda że jeszcze nie wywalił tego świecznika. Poland is not 90% catholic. I live in Poland and observe how less and less people go to church or identofy themselves as Catholic each year. Also, this menorah lightening is a tradition in the Polish Sejm. Poland had the biggest population of Jews before WWII, so Jewish culture had huge impact on Polish culture at some point in time.

If it is to become a religious institution, it should also celebrate Christmas, Pentecost, Corpus Christi, Easter, Moslem Ramadan, Orthodox Passover, Buddhist Buddha Purnima and African Kwanza. It was a Jewish holiday in Polish parliament and Braun as an ultracatholic didn't like it. He generally doesn't like Jews and Israel. Poland is officially secular but heavily based on catholicism and most Poles still identify as catholics.

God commended the Good Kings of Judah for tearing down idols in the nation. Złamał prawo, dopuścił się przestępstwa oraz Konstytucję. Art. 25 u. 5 Konstytucji: "Władze publiczne w Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej zachowują bezstronność w sprawach przekonań religijnych, światopoglądowych i filozoficznych, zapewniając swobodę ich WYRAŻANIA W ŻYCIU PUBLICZNYM." Mam nadzieję, że Braunowi zabiorą immunitet, a za bandyckie, antysemickie zachowanie i ten agresywny atak dostanie pasiaki.

Year before he refused to wear face masks when it was mandatory due to covid-19 and also was penalized for that reason. Displaying jewish or other religious symbols in Polish parliment is against Polish constitution. It is also agsinst laws and regulations to lit candles in the premises of Polish parliment (Sejm).
