Almost half of Haitians cannot read and write. This statistic is growing every year. With no education and no profession, the nation is sinking into stagnation and hopelessness. However, there are places in Haiti that are trying to combat this. And a small contribution is being made by the Polish state. Meet the school in Haiti.
The school in Cazale is an amazing place. It is one of the few schools in Haiti that is free. What's more, it is one of the few schools where every student receives a meal every day. In a country of poverty and illiteracy, the Cazale school is a true refuge, offering hope for a better tomorrow.
The school in Haiti also offers a whole range of activities - you can get a trade and become an electrician or plumber. You can also learn a language, Spanish or... Polish! Yes, this is no joke. Polish institutions have joined in to help the school. Let's join in!
The school is run by Roobens, an amazing man who was lucky enough to be born into a family that could afford to educate their children. Roobens has seven siblings and is the youngest of them. His parents, after educating each of his brothers, would send them abroad. Roobens was to graduate and join them. However, as a person of great faith, he felt that someone from their family needed to stay here and thank God for the good their family had experienced. He asked the siblings for money to open a school. Being a very intelligent man, Roobens organised a group of supporters with which he is able to run the school and feed the kids.
