I’ll be adding more lapidary videos to the mix, but it’s going to take a few videos to figure out what filming format works best to give you folks good content. Thanks for watching while I learn and figure out how to do all this fancy filming behind the scenes. 🙂
@@justa.american8303 that makes me happy to hear! I’m gonna keep the videos coming so hopefully they bring you some more joy and fun memories. Thanks for tuning in!
Thanks for the video! I think those turned out really great! i had never knew there were garnets in mica schist. I bet I have overlooked in my adventures of hounding!
Super fun video! Love those garnets! I have a handful myself... that I paid money for lol! Thanks for all your time and effort to create this video for us!
You found some nice ones! I'm in SF so only get out there a few times a year. Next time I'm going to stay near Custer so I can rockhound easier with 385 North if Hill City closed.....
@@eyeguyeyeguy1 they sure are neat! I don’t know of any maps or anything of the sort. This location is a private claim or I would share it. The book I mention in this video has a huge section though all about garnets in the hills and it lists some general locations/areas, but a person would have to scout them out and lots of them are now on private land and/or part of private mining claims. I’m sure there are a few places a person could find with a little work! It’s actually on my list, to explore a bit more and try to find more locations for them. Best luck out there if ya go in search! 🕵🏻♂️ Thanks for tuning in!
oxalic acid is a major component of barkeeper's friend brand of pot scrubbing product. it is second to none so far as best pot cleaning product. i dont recommend the pot cleaning product for rocks though.
Not perfect but still beautiful. I prefer the more natural look. Dont get me wrong, we all want that one flawless specimen, but rhe character and imperfections make it feel more authentic, and looks like it has a long history. That yellow colour could be iron oxalate as it reacts with iron in the schist. Rhat might be an indicator for having the Fe variety of garnet, nut maybe not. At best it could only prove theres iron in the schist.
@@ronnieboucherthecrystalcraftsm in your other comment you said they would never sell. First off, you totally missed the entire point which I mentioned three times in the video, being that it was all purely for fun. Second, thank you, I put a post up on the ole Facebook to find out what people prefer and looks like you’re the ignorant one! (even though we all knew that) 🤣 Anyways, guess what! Everyone wants to buy them polished so I’ll do a bunch more now! Almost like I knew that! My buddy sells literal buckets of unworked ones next to me at rock shows and does ok, but I can get out of four or five polished ones what he gets for a whole bucket. Guess I’ll have to go grab a bucket or two. Lemme know how your garden turns out, there fella! Try not to be so rude for no reason to people just because they do something you personally don’t understand or agree with. Just made yourself look like a fool in front of a large audience. I might tag ya in a future video as well! Trolls get rolled around here! Toodles!
i've heard not to do this in your garage/shed, as the fumes would eat on metal anywhere around, including nails and screws in the roofing, etc......just what i've always heard from the quartz crystal guys, and ive personally only used it on quartz, in old crock pots, set outside for a couple days.......
@@stevenjohann5435 that’s good info to know! I mixed it real quick in the shop and then it sat outside in the sun. I’ve heard of good luck with the crock pots, and I may have to try that. I had a short clip talking about the safety and hazards, but somehow I didn’t get it edited in the video. Thanks for tuning in!
@@waywardwoodward no prob, the garnet turned out really cool, i like the random crystal faces style......i went and dug out a couple suspected garnets and they are sitting by the wheel.....can't wait to see what mine look like, and thanks for the inspiration to get grinding...lol
