Can you explain what the "tri val" is? To me it looked like that was the solution that applied the gold. If so why would you apply gold to the piece before the Nickle coating?
TriVal is a solution that helps activate the metal and at the same time it applies a tiny layer of gold. This helps visualize that your part has been activated. The amount to gold deposited is not enough to last a long time so that is why we also plate it with the gold.
