I am on my 6th shar-pei and have loved the breed for 30 years. The females are easier than the males but both are very special. They need a lot of love and are loyal. Enjoy her, they are very quite different. They're feeling are hurt if yelled at, just talk to her quietly and she will come to understand what you want her to do or not do. Congradulation.
The internet isn't always correct. Some of the more unhealthy breeds are the smaller dogs just out of their genetics or the giants like Great Danes. Many small dogs like Pugs, Frenchies, and English Bulldogs struggle because of their bodies- and big dogs like Great Danes are susceptible to heart disease or problem joints.
I'm on my first shar pei, though he's 1/4 German sherpard(he looks more shar pei but has the coat of a German Shepard) and he is the most loving dog I've ever had. He is amazing and I have never felt this much love for any animal. I want more shar pei's, but for now I think we are both too attached to each other. He is extremely loyal too, he is more attached to me, so whenever I sleep in and my fiancé gets up he refuses to get up unless I do so first, it's so sweet. I love him so much.
Such beautiful manners! Our Ridgeback has none when it comes to waking my husband up! 6.00am on the dot - nudging, talking loudly, whacking him with her paw and whining in frustration until he gets up. Then all 53 kilos of her leaps up onto the bed for a big snuggle with me. Wonderful way to start the day. Dogs are AWESOME!!!

I had 2 Shar Pei and an English Bulldog at the same period in time. My female Shar Pei would pull off my blanket to wake me. Drag the blanket entirely off. My English Bulldog would have his face 1" from mine waiting for my eyes to open. A very shocking sight when opening my eyes. But lovable. They are all gone now but looking forward to seeing them when the time comes and I to get there. RIP Babies
My dog does the same thing. The first time she did it I complained to her (I wanted more sleep) but she would not stop. Now I don't hesitate, no matter the time; She needs to go out!
I’ve got a half Rottweiler half Shar-Pei and he continuously paws me when he wants something. He has loose skin on the neck which looks like a little mane, but not many wrinkles. It’s a brilliant mix, the Rottweiler side drives me crazy with his energy and the Shar-Pei side is very independent and can ignore you if it feels like it, aloof but has a nice balance with the Rottie in him. I highly recommend the breed but you better have the energy for it. Your Shar-Pei is beautiful though, The exact mannerisms of my dog, especially the dopey blink when you ask a question it wants to hear. Thanks and take care 👍
I have to go potty the baby says. :-) I have had 10 shar pei ( yes, I know I did not use a plural), they are awesome. You either love them or think they are the ugliest of dogs. I miss my babies. I have Pit bull rescue. I have wanted a shar pei for awhile, however, I'm afraid the shar pei will attack my 100 pound pittie. The shar pei is a tough little breed.
