I genuinely don't think you understand how bad and how prominent one side is compared to the other. Endymion wouldn't exist if games were made with the same artistic mindset from 10-30 years ago, where politics, rainbow flags, DEI, racial and gender quotas etc were not a thing. The fact that you don't see an issue with the main character from AC Shadows and brush off the criticism surrounding that topic shows you don't grasp a clear understanding on the issue.

It's not an equal split down the middle, both aren't equally a problem. In order to gather information and understand what's going on with a game, I have to use information from both sides. The problem is one side is open to conversation, disagreement, argument, and sharing dissenting information and the other spends half their time trying to slander you for disagreeing and the other half attempting to gaslight you. YOU can have a conversation with Endymion, you can contact him and talk to him about why you disagree with him and his methods. You've seen what happens when you question Kinda Funny. It's not equal. One side is mean and jumps to conclusions and the other has a list of things you aren't supposed to say, talk about, question or disagree with lest they slander you and throw on as many labels as possible. Yeah both sides have problems but at least you can talk to one side about them.

I'm going to have to agree to disagree on the localizer part. I find following "if it acts like a duck, swims like a duck, quacks like a duck..." when it comes to localizers is a safe bet. It only takes a few words to malform the original design. Its extremely disorienting to hear "humankind" over "mankind," or zoomer lingo in a historically accurate game. And the rise of know-better-than-you localizers I've seen in the games I play have dulled that faith of mine, since some are so brazen as to openly go against developer wishes at times. That being said the Dragon Ball change can be taken either way, but I can say for certain that Toriyama didn't approve of it.

Work is being done to have more female action game characters (that are anti male gaze) because it increases inclusion and diversity (they weren't put in older games, and action movies with female leads have them be attractive still). That is 2 of the letters of DEI.
Because we literally know nothing about the game yet and people are jumping the gun. I think Atsu looks like a normal, middle aged rural Japanese woman on the run. Her character model doesn’t look ugly, it looks like a normal person.

My rule with any channel that engages with this culture war is this: If they have the the attitude 'you are either 100% with me or you are the enemy'....that will make me roll my eyes and turn away. I consider those 'either all-in or you're out' types the real problem. There is no nuance anymore. When it comes to "woke" stuff, the only thing i will not tolerate is race and gender-swapping of legacy characters. Because it is lazy, just lazy. I do not need an altered version of a charachter, show some creativity and make a diverse charachter from the ground up with good writing, respect for the franchise and it's lore. If people don't like your product/opinion? Have a conversation about it, don't just throw the usual buzzwords around and call it a day... And this goes for both sides of the "war"
I usually take the fence sitter position that both sides are mush mouth regards because of dumpster fires like this. A lot of woke stuff is garbage, but that’s mostly because they hire regards who clearly can’t write. If you take that out, but don’t fix the writing you’ll have garbage like Eric July’s ISOM/Rippaverse comics, or the Daily Wire’s shows/movies that are just as bland and soulless as the mainstream. Plus, a lot of great media like classic Fallout, the old X-Men comics, and other stuff would be considered woke. If you’re going to include a message in something you first make sure that the product is actually good, and what you’re preaching actually fits in the setting.
Classic Fallout is considered anti-woke by the woke crowd and the creator outright claimed it had nothing to do with left wing political agendas. Stan Lee stated classic X-Men was never inspired by or referring to left wing movements like the civil rights movement. Those things were added later. And taking a fence sitting position when one side has more power than the other means allowing that side to thrive more.
The thing about "zoomer" language is that in general, people should avoid to use in games and tv shows "current words" and even memes, and the reason about this is because, both of these things have a very short expiring date and it will make your product seems very dated in like one year or something. So if you are creating a product to be consumed in 2024, it is fine, but if you are trying to create something timeless, this is not the way to go.

The way I see it, I wouldn’t even equate the 2 sides in wrong doing. On one side you have a group of devs, companies, DEI consultants, media and some players, whom many believe are responsible in a large part, by ruining the VG industry with their forced political activism and perversion. On the other side, players or consumers and some media that are pissed off about it and reacting to what’s being propagated because they can’t stand what’s happened to something they’re passionate about. Do some of them take it too far, I think so and don’t think it always puts out a good perception for folks on that side of the argument. Endymion is and has been calling it exactly as he sees it and obviously many people and myself included would agree. It all pales by comparison to what these activists are doing, while they arrogantly except the customer to pay for something they don’t want. If we have the buying power, and some media presence, they need to hear about it and be held accountable, otherwise they’re not listening and things won’t change.
Take a drink every time Endymion says something like: "a source told me..," "i heard that...," "i can't confirm this, but...," "now take this with a grain of salt..." His videos are full of weasel word phrases to give him plausible deniability when what he says turns out to be bullshit. In that moment they see Skyrim was popular (basically nords are vikings of ES universe) and they see TV show Vikings was popular: Lets make a vikings AC. Now Japanese theme is on rise lets make a Japanese game. And they cant not even make it interesting. Sad because the shinobi theme fits way better for a AC than a Viking theme. The criticism of "woke" is a criticism of the process called subjectification which was started by the materialists / cultural marxists of the postmodern ideology. The reason one doesn't like subjectification is because ontology is a typology, meaning that it is a natural inclination and not something people are persuaded into. Subjectification includes marketing strategies which are inauthentic and coercive, so yeah, zoomer brainrot being added to dragonball z is subjectification. The drastic increase of subjectification deserves pushback.

It seems like only small creators (like you or I) seem to be more in the middle on this sort of thing. I didn't receive in backlash for my video (because not a lot of people watched it, and it was only a section of that video) about the Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns "woke" controversy, but that talking point made up a lot of discourse preceding the expansion's release. On the other hand, I don't like how a lot of large outlets talked around the issues with Concord, which were pretty blatantly obvious or how many of them glossed over Black Myth Wukong. All of this is definitely impacted by my algorithm, but at the end of the day, this fixation on this culture war has essentially ruined gaming discourse. A lot of gaming channels veer way more into commentary content now instead of good, honest, and real discussions about games, and it's a shame.
To offer an example. I have been listening to many different perspectives on the issues with AC Shadows from Japanese creators and even African creators. None of the issues they bring up, like the problems with Yasuke's depiction or the disrespectful depictions of Japanese culture are even being properly reported if at all by the left. In fact, most channels refuse to talk about them or gaslight people saying it's r@cism without actually listening to what people are saying. On the other side there's entire conversations about the many way they could make Yasuke work as a protagonist either by following history or completely deviating from it and stilll being respectful. Because you can actually talk about these issues people are offering solutions and ways this disaster could have been avoided, conversations that don't exist on the other side. This is what I mean, it's not an equal problem because you actually talk to the right, you can disagree with them, you can argue with them. If you say, Yasuke's depiction is disrespectful in Shadows to other side, they're going to slander and gaslight you, it doesn't matter what evidence you have, it doesn't matter how you phrase it, you're bringing up something you're not supposed to talk about.
I’m not a Japanese culture expert. I just know he’s been in other games and no one has ever had an issue with it until now. But, that said, I’m not going to say how Japanese people should feel. They have every right to be upset if Ubisoft is being disrespectful to their culture in their eyes.

That's why people have been saying from the beginning they could have had him in the game or even as a protagonist but not the way they did it. We only know of him based on one picture and he has no place in records as a samurai. He is very political. Thomas Lockley is fraud historian who wrote a book called " the true story of the legendary Samurai Yasuke", a book he sold as fictional in Japan and factual in the West. He was also caught editing Yasuke's wiki to better reflect his book. Many Western publications ran with Thomas's book without fact checking or peer review. He was ousted as a fraud in 2017 and this very year when he found out to be involved in the development of AC Shadows and when Japan found out that his book was sold as historical fact to the West. When the first trailers for AC Shadows dropped Ubisoft Quebec was claiming that their depiction of Yasuke and Japan as a whole was historical. They referred to Yasuke as a "real life legendary samurai" and even later doubled down that the entire game including Yasuke was "as authentic as possible". As more details about the game came out with more footage of Yasuke his depiction was found to be disrespectful not just to the Japanese but to Africans amd African-Americans as well. The primary issues outside of the claims of Ubisoft and subsequently Thomas Lockley was; the restrictions on his gameplay, the claim that he is a samurai but doesn't follow samurai code in gameplay, his falling animation not allowing him to break his fall, the hip-hop music used for an African in 16th century in Japan, his disrespect of Japanese culture (presumed to be accidental since Ubisoft didn't understand Japanese culture). The reason people are upset about Yasuke in AC Shadows is because it's claimed to be historically accurate and authentic making it the worst depiction of Yasuke to currently exist. For context the Yasuke anime while originally marketed as more historical as it was based on Thomas Lockley's book was later found to be an Afro Samurai ripoff and was later better advertised as fantasy and Thomas Lockley's book itself being an example of historical revisionism and made many false claims about Japanese culture and history, are the above Ubisoft Quebec's depiction. Ubisoft's final statements on Yasuke still claimed him to be historical and authentic representation of a real historical language.

I am definitely over the extremes from both sides. I just want fun video games again, as well as entertaining movies. I remember back in the day walking out of the theater almost every weekend and everyone just excited talking about what they just saw. I miss those days.

I was reminiscing about times when I don't recall identity politics or agendas etc. being talked about 24/7 in entertainment. It was mainly just talking about the media itself....was it good or bad etc. how it was innovative and cool. It seemed like most developers then were developers because they had an idea about something they thought was cool and would be fun, and they weren't driven by anything else: money, politics, agendas. Just a pure unadulterated idea for something fun. And so I miss those days.

Others like Doctor Disaster, Geeks + Gamers, Wagner Knows Why, Melonie Mac, Vara Dark, Hypnotic, TheQuartering, etc. are all talking about the same topics for days because it targets the children and young adults who don’t know better. Grummz is also a grifter on X too. 5lotham is a rage baiter for sure but he’s one of the rare RU-vidrs to be fully honest on everything. He also called out the grifters being hypocrites too. He also called out on games being shovelware. Games like Stellar Blade being shovelware when it’s another generic third person POV hack n slash game everybody dislikes and the internet ruined the game because of the wrong message when thought some wanted cornography into the game. Another game like Black Myth Wukong being ‘repetitive shovelware’ for being a copy of Dark Souls. He is the only one to say the truth when DEI wasn’t the cause the game to be trash because characters doesn’t determine the gameplay.

Most of us that hate woke are not frothing at the mouth crazy people. And we are choosing not to buy. I would have enjoyed (and paid for) Balders Gate 3, for example if not for the changes they made to it to appease a small group. People are refusing to pay for titles that push this stuff. Just look at the recent expensive flops.

AC Shadows was delayed because of the various issues the game had, blaming the people who called out the problems is attributing blame to the wrong people. You don't blame the messager for giving you bad news. I can understand wanting to play Yasuke but it's Ubisoft that screwed that up, because of the things they said and the things they did. Instead of recognizing that Ubisoft is the one responsible for these problems, you're lashing out at the people criticizing Ubisoft and recognizing these problems. They aren't responsible for things that Ubisoft did wrong and it's what Ubisoft did that caused the game to be delayed and potentially canceled.
Ubisoft fucked up massively. They keep releasing unfinished games and the marketing in Japan for the game has been awful. Like the half destroyed gate was crazy disrespectful

This video does no good for the progress we've made so far in terms of de-wokefication of videogames. Fence sitting is not how we fight the extreme! And a shift is happening. Movie studios are starting to bring in groups of super fans to test movies to be able to make changes. The gaming industry is a few steps behind the movies/TV industry. All this woke pandering stuff will be removed within the next few years. The games starting development now won’t have it in them. These games releasing now have been in development for years, before the major pushback.
