Many people just vote for their party and not for who they actually want. Having parties makes it very easy to manipulate who becomes president and can leave really good candidates out who may have different and better views. It's time we do our research and vote for who we actually think is the better candidate. George Washington was right, parties will be our downfall.

More accurately the prior rival to the Democrats , the Whigs had disintegrated , and most of its former members had gone over to the Republican party . Those Whigs who did not became the Constitutional Union party , which was a shell of what was once the Whig party .
