best video and speech by prof. Spivak i have ever seen. at times her facial expressions even resemble Jacques Derrida. having read her english translation of "of grammatology" and joining her journey in trying to articulate the indescribable, this video speaks to a hard fought knowledge i have gained in unraveling the conventional structures of experience or real life. reality. i will never be the same. love it.

The commentary is very insightful. It tells us how little capacity there us in the West for intellectual thinking and how easy it is just to drink a deadly can of coke

Loved it when she said, and I quote "Saturday Morning". This is an allusion for audience that on a Saturday Morning they could afford to digest a little story along with her explanation of Derrida. I think it is much for the audience's delight and less for her's intellectual appetite.😊😊

The conversation reveals far deeper truths and realities related to certain important topics like education, politics, the role of language, marxist's ideology and after all Derridean philosophy. It also sheds light on the role if various races, cultures, religions and civilizations. Suffice is to say that the dialogues create avenues for understanding many intellectual concepts in a deconstruction way.

It is a bit rambling but still very good. In OG, the pages 69-73 in my view, are particularly brilliant, but they also reveal an immanent anti-anglophone 'tendency'. Was this the reason why all those 'Oxford and Cambridge' philosophers did not want Derrida to get his honorary Doctorate? OG is actually more relevant now than ever.

Perhaps one, who is inspired by thinkers like Derrida,prefers to be rambling than (logically)sequential😃
@edwardwhittaker5728
@edwardwhittaker5728 3 года назад
@@nilanjanaghosh3432 That is a very good point. To an extent maybe, Gayatri does ramble i.e. to make intuitive connections and diversions- it comes with her memory. Logical sequencing was not really appropriate to her memory, but it does come into the very structure of language via enunciation and syntax, precisely the logo-centrist structure that Derrida wanted to 'deconstruct'. Thanks for the reply, by the way.

This comment section is shameful indeed. People have no respect for perhaps one of the best minds at work in the West at the moment. Instead look at these idiots bashing her for her background and origins, and overlooking her achievements.

Let's put a fine point on it. Derrida was an absolute fad amongst the "cool" literary-analysis crowd in the 80's and 90's (particularly those trying to get laid). It provided free-license to speak elliptically around age-old philosophical questions as though they were something new, while saying nothing particularly original. There will always be a demand for this license.
