Excellent video my man! Just a suggestion, you left one of the most important tasks out - Calibration. Anytime you add or change any speakers in your environment, running a calibration will really help improve the overall sound quality. You and I both know how well YPAO does calibrations. The EQing will help with that distortion that you referred to. After years of experience with Yamahas, I learned that three-point calibrations work best for me. Trust me, you'll love those speakers even more after calibrating them properly.
Just purchased this to replace a very old, inefficient and bulky Accusound center channel speaker that interfered with the view of my Samsung 65" Q80T smart TV and i could not be happier and more impressed....
I have this center channel speaker paired with my Samsung QN900C 8k TV with my polk 7.1.2 system Pioneer LX505 and Tonewinner 7 channel power amp and couldn't be more pleased.
Thanks for mentioning that it would sound better with an 8’ sub. Because I just got two SVS PB-1000 Pro’s I was hoping I can get the SVS prime center but I don’t have room in my tv cabinet-shelf. I only have room for a 7 1/2 Thanks again👍🏼🙏🏼✌🏼
Great review! I like it when reviews are done over extended period of time like you did. I live in a tiny apartment with 10x11 feet TV/Living room. I am planning for Polk S10 as both front and surround speakers, HTS 10, it has 10inch sub. Do you think S35 will go well with my proposed setup or it might be bit over powering s10's. Thanks in advance!
Good viedo on this speaker I have full polk es series es60 as front left and right would you please let me know what setting of speaker have been set for 7.2 set up I mean the level of individual speaker in avr. I would be thank full
You do not want any midrange coming from your sub. Recommending a smaller sub is an odd recommendation. If you're crossing this over at 80hz, you should have zero issues integrating a larger sub at that cutoff.
Thanks for the best review I've seen on the S35. I have a Klipsch 5.1 system (the little satellite speakers) The Center speaker just isn't clear enough for me and I have trouble with understanding dialogue in movies. I am thinking about the S35 because I need 4.1" high for it to fit and I can get one at a great price. Any opinion would be appreciated.
I have had my S35 for a year. Still very happy with the overall performance. Quick question for you, have you adjusted the center channel volume on your receiver. If you got your center speaker turned up and you still can’t hear it, then I would replace it with a nicer speaker. I hope that helps, good luck to you!
@@Allkindsofstuff I have adjusted the Hz of the center ch and settled on 120Hz. The vol is +2bd louder than the other satellite speakers. The center is channel has one tweeter and two 3" speakers.
Does look small to me, I recently upgraded my L/R speakers and now my center sounds muddy in comparison. Looking to upgrade and polk has this at 149$ right now. How big is you TV? Just trying to get an idea of what this will look like in setup.
o-o would you recommend this for replacing my center speaker for Harman Kardon HKTS-15. The subwoofer is amazing on it, but I feel maybe a bit overshadowing the other speakers. Thinking this might balance it out a bit and I want super clear talking/music not just super bassy
I have sonus faber venere 2.5 towers and looking for center for it. I loved s35 style. My only convern is I wont get that male vocals low freq strong body effect with this because of its slim form.
The Klipsch RW-34C has an aluminum dome tweeter. I don't care for the sound of metal tweeters. I think they are to bright sounding and harsh over a softer material tweeter like silk dome tweeters. The Polk uses a Terylene High-Res Dome tweeter which produces is a much softer and realistic sound in my opinion. It's really just personal preference depending on what you like.
@@Allkindsofstuff have you tried or tested the Bower and Wilkins satellite M1 speakers at all, no metal tweeter I believe? Any thoughts on using that for a center Speaker over the Polk? Same exact price but much smaller and from B&W which is about as high end of a speaker company as you can get..?
I'm having similar problems when I'm watching a movie through my receiver which at the moment is only two front speakers and one subwoofer and the I cant really hear the voices, did this solve it?
Cross over at 40hz? Whattttt? No. I have this same speaker and No way is 40Hz correct. 80 - 100 Hz is more like it. This is an OK speaker at best, not awesome. I'm running a X3600H with a 7.2.4 setup.
I realized I made a mistake in my video editing. I set it at 40HZ because Polk manual said it could handle 40hz. Speaker did not sound right, was too much on the low end and over driver the speakers. I did switch it to 80hz because that is where I thought it should be set, speaker performed great at this frequency range.
@@Allkindsofstuff Good to know you corrected this. I have the same speaker due to space constraints. 80 or even 100Hz works well for this speaker. Rule of thumb is Never set the crossover to the -3db point the speaker manufacturer claims, it'll almost always let you down. It's not a flat wall where it crosses over so you want to allow for overlap. 24db/oct is what most AV receivers will do for that lower crossover transition. I shoot for 40Hz above the -3db point and then adjust based on how it sounds. Audioholics of course has many video's on this.
@@jeffm2787 Are you happy with S35? I have Denon X3700H and I'm looking for a good center speaker for movies but also music. TV is quite large so I thought about slim and wide speaker.
as an audiophile, this such crap. nothing more than cheap drivers thin and lousy cabinet, boosted with some DSP and cheap filter components, yes when fed with a good dac and the right music it could sound impressive. you could start opening it and upgrade the filters and the drivers. I bet you those mid-drivers cost no more than 10 dollars apiece.
Thin cabinet, no not really. They are OK drivers for the size. Not sure where the DSP comes in, not like it's built into the speaker. DAC for a center? Why would you be using a DAC for multi channel audio. In any event I have one of these speakers, it's OK at best, not great. Paid full price for it and kind of regret it, my wife likes the speaker, so kind of stuck with it. Cross over around 100Hz and it's OK.
@@jeffm2787 I agree and have owned many different Polk speakers. They are bottom tier in my eyes. My buddy bought the LSI series towers and they even sucked for their price point. Polk in my eyes no matter what series will always be pass for me after all my experiences with their products... ELAC with Andrew Jones building their speakers are now the budget speakers to buy in 2021... Also the JBL 520c is absolutely amazing for its price point. Right now I'm using a Paradigm 3 way center, Axiom multi driver large book shelf speakers, Fluance Di-pole rear surrounds, and an SVS SB-1000 sealed 500 watt subwoofer. Canada with the anechoic chamber rooms are making kick ass speakers and are tuned phenomenally...
