POLKA DANCE CONTEST PT3of3 with music by BRASS EXPRESS at FRANKENMUTH SUMMER MUSIC FESTIVAL August 1989 A nice look at the OPEN DIVISION competition some GREAT dancing.
Supposedly a German boat washed ashore on Mexicp and the crew played polka music to the locals. From there the accordion was influence in Mexican folk music.
Oh I just love this!! Why do people not do this anymore! I have the best memories as a little girl twirling and dancing to polka music at festival on corner nights in Chicago in the early 70's!
Before i die( im 61) i have to dance the polka! Reminds me of the Swiss Ital club at Yoris Grove in Ceres Ca growing up and Lawrence Welk too. This dance is fancier than i realized
I really love to see more videos just like this,i use to watch big joe polka show all the time and Mollie B polka show all the time but i really don't have cable or satellite at all now so i can't watch it at all now
Very fun video to watch and great advertising for Frankenmuth. I love that town--especially Oktoberfest and Christmas. Great advertising for a fantastic Michigan city and a wonderful nod to German/European traditions and heritage. We love it there. Thank you for the video. :-)
+zenubi There is a hell of a German influence on Mariachi and much other Mexican music -- Mexico recruited a lot of German immigrants, and so did Texas. That's why Linda Ronstadt has Spanish for a first language and Shiner Bock is from Texas.
It's 1am and I'm laying in bed watching a polka dancing competition video from 1989. What the fuck am I doing with my life? This is it. Rock fucking bottom..
I don,t care how silly it is, I wish there were more places to go dancing, there is just nothing any more, Whatever happened to the Saturday Night Dances,??? People just sit in front of the boob tube eat themselves to sleep and become boring lifeless vegetables.
I'm not sure I quite understand this dance, the fundamentals are evident, but all dance has an irgin and statement, I suppose I need to go to the Histiry to capture the energy statement. Polish as I recall. My Uncle woukd have been able to enlighten me. 💖
Nobody said who won, actually they're all winners, but I'll give it to 419, they kept their steps so much in time with the music. Are they still dancing the Polka today after all this time? It's 2018 and they're 7 years older, I wish them well.
I'm so disappointed with their dancing. If this is a contest of polka music, they should have appropriate costumes certainly NOT mini skirts so short you can see their underpants when they twirl. Great for guys but I'm a girl and it embarrases me. I want them to look like Polish dancers, not Donny and a cheerleader. But I LOVE the music. It's so lively and happy.
Lindsey Clemons LOL Then you had to be raised on Polka, and if your young, that's why you don't like it, but trust me, keep all you can of your culture, learn the dance(even though Polka was born in Bohemia, its part of German culture as well). We are living in a world that throws everything away, and just wants constant change. Cultural music and dance, folk costumes and festivals to keep that alive are why our fore fathers were able to survive, and it shouldn't be thrown to the wayside because the world wants to move so fast. To my opinion, life is about "maintain", not "change"......
+OLD BAY my grandma was 100% German my grandpa was 50% german I really don't remember them playing polka music because I was young . when I was a teenager I did not see them too often because my mom wouldn't let us.
