Covering your corn plants with micro netting (less than 0.5mm) will permit air-circulation while simultaneously shedding any rainfall, which will keep your pollen dry. It's something I'm trying on my corn this very damp summer.

Interesting idea! Would be interesting to hear how it works out 👍☺

@jonnyskitchengarden9128 Jonny, it's been raining today, and I've noticed yet another completely unexpected benefit of micro netting. The netting bends over the tallest of the male flowers, but - here comes the interesting bit - as the raindrops hit the micro netting, they shake free a dusting of pollen dust. And, because the rain cannot get through the netting (as well as creating an encapsulated environment) that pollen dust is circulating far more than would occur with natural wind-blown pollution. I'm totally amazed 😲

That’s great! Sometimes it’s good to agitate the stems a bit to shed some pollen but your method seems to be having a similar effect 👍🙂

Morning Jonny, I grow 2 varieties 1 a 60 day and 1 a 90 day so hopefully they are ready at different times. But oddly this year they are getting nibbles among the male flowers. Our big issue with corn are squirrels eating them. Thank you for sharing your videos ✌️🇨🇦🐝 safe

Interesting - would love to hear if you find out what is causing the damage 🤔 Hope they still produce plenty of pollen for you! We have plenty of squirrels in the garden but so far they haven’t bothered our corn - now you mention it, I suppose that is a bit odd!

I'm doing corn for the 1st time this year, its 2nd August (BST) & my corn has just flowered with the tassels on show. Thank you for the tips on pollination, I am concerned on the timing of the flowering on how late its getting into the summer, is my sweetcorn on track or is it getting to late into the season any help would be grateful thxs

I think you should be fine, especially if the silks are out as well - there should be plenty of time yet to get ripe cobs 👍 As it's your first time with corn you might find this video useful as well: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zcUYTsTMrlg.html
