Syd Barrett was a true artist and should be celebrated as one of the greatest of all time. Thank you, David and company for keeping his memory preserved.
I've always wanted to hear David sit and tell the Syd story just like this. Not a documentry just the story and reflections raw as can be. You truly keep Syd alive in memory. I remember the day Syd dided I heard the announcment on the raido driving back from Ozzfest and it turly hurt the soul to hear. I will always remember that day because of that.
@Dimitris Athas David is a great guitarist and while Syd wasn't a technical virtuoso belting out blues leads he's one of my all-time favorites and I don't think he gets enough credit. Gilmour actually includes Syd in his list of favorite/influential guitarists and it was through Syd that David began to explore the use of effects. Also, being that presently there are tons of effects processors readily available (whether it be stomp boxes, rack units, DAWs and even apps), it may not seem that impressive from today's perspective but back then Syd was creating these insane soundscapes through his guitar that were unheard of at the time. So yeah, conventionally he's no Hendrix or Page but he sure as hell reigned in a new era of sound.
@Dimitris Athas I disagree. It's one thing to say you don't like his guitar style but to say he wasn't a musician is an insult. Syd wrote all the lyrics AND music on Piper and their early singles except for one song on Piper. Also, listen to his lead guitar playing on Gigolo Aunt. It's a great lead and has very unique phrasing. He also plays some great slide guitar on See Emily Play and Remember A Day. You don't have to like because music is subjective and everyone is entitled to their opinion but he literally created the sound of that era and genre and to say he isn't a musician is blatantly incorrect.
Gilmore should record 10 of Barrett’s songs on acoustic and release it for sure. I didn’t realize how involved he was with Syd’s solo work. I’d love to hear about him taking Syd to and from the studio.
Why not a double featuring of music from both Syd Barret and Rick Wright solo works? I agree with the acoustic idea too. I love it a lot! The unplugged sound atmosphere would be awesome and very unusual. Maybe also just a couple of songs of both in the early Pink Floyd days with a Gilmour acoustic twist. Man, i would buy that in the same day they release it.
David Gilmour is for me a legend.. never to be repeated.. incredible memories of your work that will last centuries as we see the likes of Bach, Mozart, etc..
Fascinating discussion on Sid. Sad he left us too soon. I have a friend I still phone and visit from school. He sang at my wedding in 2010. He was great. We’ve known each other about 52 years. I’m 59 in August. Thinking of David and Sid I would say I resemble Sid more only because my youthful behaviour or misbehaviour lead to my becoming paralysed from the neck down at 18. I am now in my 41st year of paralysis. Life has on the whole been good. I can highly recommend it. Life that is, not paralysis.🤪
I just want to thank David for helping write the sound track to my life. The music of Pink Floyd has been a very big part of my life. From my own experiences to my children. Your music is truly timeless.
Why did I know nothing about these videos?! They're so wonderful! Staying a few moments with a Gilmore's Family piece, sitting with them, drinking a glass of wine, speaking about the past ... it's an old dream, never thought probably, but it's a blessing for all us! 😄 A great hug from the Sicily 🌞♥️😚
At 60 I rediscovered Mr Gilmore and Pink Floyd. You have had such an impact on my life and the lives of others with your music. Thank you so much for your music and the impact you have had on us all! Cliff
David Gilmour est une légende, un mythe, et le voir en famille, ça le replace à notre échelle humaine, un humain qui au travers de sa musique et de tant d'humilité nous transmet tellement de bonnes choses. Et ça fait tellement de bien. Un grand merci David.
I used to have a non stop passion for building fine furniture. Something , or a too much of many things , stole something within. It was where my spirit escaped from myself . Thank you David for sharing about "Syd Barrett" .
Greetings from Bulgaria! The guitar of David and Pink Floyd in general, were the beacons that guided the growth of a whole generation 30 years ago on the other side of the Iron Wall. In the mid 80s, I was the only one in the whole quarter in the city of Sofia having a VHS player. My appartment was a sort of cinema where we have played hundreds of times Live in Pompey and the Wall. Thank you David!!❤️
I always have time to listen DG voice and guitars. DG is a living legend who will go down the years as one of the top 5 best musicians of all time. Very few musicians reach this level. All the best to all your family and you. Stay strong and keep safe
Lovely duet...so great that Mr. Gilmour has such a supportive family. And to be able to perform music with his daughter....so great! Please play Atlanta!! Haha:)
What a charming and warm family. Some of my earliest memories of music were of my father playing Dark Side of the Moon on his 70’s hi fi. The music of Pink Floyd was a large part of the soundtrack of my childhood. Roger’s lyrics were a big part of my coming of age in my teens. David is the soul reason why I find myself on a 40+ year journey with the guitar. I’d quite love to spend an evening chatting, drinking wine, picking at Dave’s failing memory for the good stuff, and maybe even having a strum or two. This is as close, I suppose, as I will ever come to that. Thank you David and Polly! Be well.
I listen to your music everyday David, because every note is meaningful an transcendent and your singing is angelic. Of course your my favorite guitarist as well. To pay tribute to Syd is just amazingly respectful to a once dear friend, lovely. Thank you and your family for sharing these precious moments with us. Forever grateful for all your music.
What a lovely family. You can plainly see in the Pulse concert that David had found his true soulmate. Thank you Polly for all you have and still contribute to his music and life.
Fantastic to see my life long musical hero in this setting. I got hooked on David and Pink Floyd in the seventies, saw him/them live in Rotterdam 1994. My all time favorite song is Echos, rip Rick....
It's impressive how we can feel that since Gilmour became the Pink Floyd leader he never forgot Syd Barret and have done these kind of stuff and other things to get Syd's music back. The Early Years was another way to get to it as a plus side effect. The same way we can say the same about Rick. He supported him, get him on his own music and concerts and even made the last Pink Floyd album working around the days of Pink Floyd still with Rick Wright. In the same idea, i can see too that The Later Years was a come back to those last years of Pink Floyd with Rick. I love all this peace and no problems evidence with their past songs and members. Great respect to David Gilmour. Many admiration to these "A Theatre of Dreamers" sessions... keep it coming.
My favorite of all time,David Gilmour you are the best. You got excellent family. We are waiting for your new concert.Always I wish & dreaming if can get one guitar from you. Thanks a lot.Warmest Regards Toto from Baku-Azerbaijan.
Your a legend david.im irish and I seen you Paris twice most recently you last tour.i have been to many gigs concerts to many to name and I've never heard such clear guitar playing at a live gig.you and pink floyd gave me the want to learn guitar and wish you where here was the reason I bought one.you all luck happy together there.stay safe.rip syid
hi Mr.gilmour I am your Japanese fan. Do you remember the concert that Pink Floyd did near a lake of Hakone city in the old days? As it is about time when I am still small, I did not experience the concert, but hear it when it was a beatieul concert.
Thank you Mr. Gilmour, family and friends. It's great to just be a part of a non staged chat...very nice,...I'll have a cup of tea. Your history is epic, appreciated, respected...Thank you,...thank you for everything.

i very rarely comment on videos...however, Thank you. :) So lovely to see you and your family David. You've gracefully become a classy old English gentleman while remaining a humble legend. Thank you for sharing an intimate time with you and your family. So real and homestyle. Cheers!
Thank you thank you thank you, all of you!!! Its so hard to sing these songs!!! Its so friggin' cool that you try still David! Seriously thank you man. For us fans, we love tidbits of knowledge. Especially when it comes to Syd. Family is the greatest. Yours seems splendid. I like to write but feel sad like Syd sometimes possibly felt. I think about how beautiful the world is in moments of silence. Thank you for putting that together in this video. Thank you Romany for the beautiful harp playing (accompanied by the wonderful baby gaggles) and the way you seem to capture such deep thought so naturally. Thank you Charlie for being such a driver with the questions and being so detailed with your work, Polly thank you so much for so much more, because I believe that behind every great man, there is even a greater woman. And finally last but not least, thanks to the beautiful lady at the right of the screen with baby for being such a great baby "distracter" and for the great set design.
Excelente Maestro!!!! Y a la arpista... Saludos desde Paraguay!!! Y le invitamos que vengan alguna vez en alguna gira por aca para conocer la capital del arpa y escuchar a nuestros musicos también....
Great to see Dave looking so well!!! Saw you in Philadelphia at The Spectrum in 1977 during your Animals tour with Floyd!! Such a great concert and I still have the program book they sold for $2 back then at the concert!! My fav album is Animals!! I remember the concert well. Speakers all over The Spectrum so no matter where we sat you could hear well. I remember Dave's guitar solo being panned around the stadium from speaker to speaker!! Thanks for the incredible songs and guitar work!! Stay well!!!
Wow, I loved this. What a beautiful family, one of my favorite quarantine moments. I really loved your rendition of Dominoes and really the whole conversation.
What a beautiful family portrait! It felt like sitting with you all there as a family friend. Thank all of you and, apart from this nice talk, I wish to thank David. Thank you for all your music, the sound, the style, and the poetry. You were the best soundtrack of my life since I was thirteen, when I started listening to music. Since then, I almost refuse to deal with people who don't know who "Pink Floyd" are. I would almost say "it's not normal". Best wishes to all of you!
Thank you guys. David is singing old Syd Barret tunes & Roger Waters and band sung a great version of Mother! Covid-19 lockdown, watching thousand of videos and eating loads!
This is a gem and I love how so down to earth they are! Would love to invite them to come to Portugal to my home just to break bread, talk, play and sing with a fine wine by our side...as simple as you can get
Mr. Gilmore Your Family is beautiful and blessed, Polly Has a great Gift of words. You and Polly has filled my heart with inspiration Thank you for all the great music
