We bought an 8m X 3m polycarbonate tunnel greenhouse to grow more stuff this year. This is a (mostly) timelapse video of us building it with some tips of what we learnt along the way which should be helpful to those looking to buy and build one themselves.
If you want to see how we modified it to hang the strings for growing tomatoes then see this instagram post / byf9mlcg0xi

Great video. :) HAve you looked into no-dig and permacultue? Layering with cardboard, compost and dirt? Saves you some hard work and gives just as good, if not better soil. :)

Hi, thanks. Yes we have and do practice this (see our other videos). It's just when this arrived we had only been here 6 months and didn't have any compost, couldn't get any delivered in bulk and had 50 tom plants desperate for a new home. Coincidentally I've just uploaded a new video on compost and you can see how it's now used in the greenhouse year 2 :)

Hey - Did you not use the metal banding for the outside of the plastic to make it more secure when putting the screws in? I got that when I purchased mine.

As you noted in your video, twinwall polycarbonate should always run vertically, because condensation must be allowed to run out the bottom. If it can't, because you ran the channels horizontally, you'll eventually see mold growth that is pretty much impossible to remove. Otherwise, great video! I want to replace the 6 mil poly on our tunnel with polycarbonate one day.

Thanks. Only on one end the panel was horizontal, as it happens nearly 5 years later it hasn’t made any difference.

I can't remember but there's lots of websites here in Latvia selling identical ones such as siltumnica.lv/ if you google Polikarbonāta siltumnīcas you'll get lots, all a similar price.

In principle yes but we bought it to quickly scale up our greenhouse capacity when we first arrived and I think now we have time I’d probably build a timber frame one covered in polythene to the spec that we needed.

A leisurely 2 days with the ground works done beforehand. The time consuming but was translating the technical Russian instructions into a language we could understand :) There’s a video the spring tour next year where I showed how I improved it a bit and pinned it to the ground, worth noting/doing.

Hi. We are putting up a polycarbonate polytunnel also on a sloped ground. How did you get it level with just using a string line ? Thanks, I hope you can help. I'm basically digging a trench and using a long level. It's quite tricky to get it level.
@BalticHomesteaders
@BalticHomesteaders Год назад
Hi basically we didn’t get it level. The only real draw back of that was watering was difficult and I solved that by using drip tape and just 2 weeks ago I terraced the beds which you can see in last week’s video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TOukeewUO6A.html also I had to stake it down the next year as wind nearly made it take off and that’s worked well since, I think I showed that in the spring update the year after it was installed. Hope that helps.

@Baltic Homesteaders Okay, great, thanks for the info. It's going pretty well with putting up our polytunnel. It's an ecoslider es3 premium - 18 m2.

@estherl8731 Год назад
This looks like a wonderful option! Do you know if it holds up to very strong winds?
@BalticHomesteaders
@BalticHomesteaders Год назад
So far no, it just needs a wash and also I opted to stake it to the ground to better protect it from the wind and it’s been fine since.
@Mandy-cn5cl
@Mandy-cn5cl 4 года назад
That's cool did it fix to the frame with screws ?? How much did it cost & do you think it would stand up to 60mph winds ? We live on the coast & get battering winds often through the winter & other times too .Thanks
@BalticHomesteaders
@BalticHomesteaders 4 года назад
Hi. Cost was 500 euros, yes it's got screws, they are ok but he washers could be better. Yes we did have some damage over winter and had to tie it down until just a couple of weeks ago. I can't say for sure if it was of the the way we put it together or the product itself. However we've now made modifications and feel it's much better. You can see what we've done in the spring tour video I published yesterday. Hope that helps but feel free to get in touch if you need to know more.

@@srevazulu1066 Maybe there's an opportunity to market them over in the UK :) You're right they are very hard to find. The only place I found them was on EBAY and strangely enough they are sold from Lithuania next to us www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Polycarbonate-Greenhouse-Tube-Polytunnel-Arch-Galvanised-Plastic-Large/223896632782 They do ship to UK. My advice if you do get one is upgrade the fixings that put the PC onto the frame to include big disc washers, it protects the PC better.
