My mind is blown at all the stuff that can be done with polymer clay. Like if a person wanted they could then finish the inside with a faux mother of pearl inlay or some faux gemstone made with polymer clay. It's like it gives you access it a million different materials that you can all make with different techniques with the clay. I just wish the clay was a bit cheaper so larger projects were more practical like doing a nice overlay to make fancy pots for indoor houseplants or like a hanging mural of tiles for a wall I think would be a really cool idea.
I would have hit like 100 x’s if I could. How clever you are to figure out for your audience how to make their own form, now that’s dedication to the max, very impressive. Good luck in every thing you do. You have a very pleasant voice as well, you were made for teaching this to the rest of us. I watched this over again, it hardly ever do that. Brilliant! I simply could not stop watching regardless of what was going on around me, it was mesmerizing, so relaxing and I really wanted to go make one of your boxes. OH MY GOODNESS, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL CANE that turned out to be!
Your voice is just HEAVEN! This video was just brilliant thank you so much for sharing with us and helping us learn so much u r absolutely wonderful! I could listen to u all day long! Lol thanks again for sharing ur wisdom
Muy buenos días, Fiona! Es impresionante el trabajo que realizas! Magnífico, espectacular, que belleza para todos - as, nosotros - as... Gracias por tu tutorial, tiempo y enseñanzas tan excepcionales... Eres magnífica, lo más! Saludos de Rosa maría 🌟👍🌟😘😘😘💖
I have made several of these trinket boxes and I am getting commissions to do more. I love all of your tutorials. You are truly an artist to the highest degree. Thank you so very much!❤❤❤😊
I normally don't watch video tutorials that are this long but for some reason I watched this whole video and I don't think I hit the fast forward button once. I'm very happy I watched. I'm new to polymer clay and I learned a lot! Thank you! The box came out beautiful!
There really aren't enough thumbs up in the world to give you. Absolutely brilliant tutorial. Thanks. I don't even do polymer clay stuff, I just like listening to your voice mostly, but I might have to add a new hobby to the list. Mm mmmm 🤗
I couldn’t agree more! And you have such a lovely way of speaking, very calming. So that even a total novice like myself can dare to believe I could make something like this, though not nearly as good, of course. Thank you so very much for all the time you put into these videos. They’re wonderful.
Hi Fiona- I know you may not see this since it isn't a new video, but I wanted to leave it anyway just in case. This is the 2nd time I'm watching this tutorial & I can not wait to give it a try. When I 1st saw it I felt very intimidated & thought that I probably couldn't do it, no matter how badly I wanted to. But you just explain & teach everything so clearly & perfectly & you break everything down in such a way that it makes us feel like we can actually do it, and trust me, most people do not have that ability while teaching/explaining. This box is absolutely beautiful, i can't even get over it. You amaze me so much. There are a few polymer clayers out there on youtube who are absolutely incredible & I'd be so lucky & thankful to have even the tiniest fraction of their ability, but you really are on a whole other level. You're a true artist. You come up with AMAZING projects & pieces & canes and I just don't understand how you do it but it's so incredible to see. Your creativity & talent is truly out of this world. And it is so so so very kind and generous of you to actually share all that with us. Your projects are always like works of art and you spend all that time and effort & I'm sure much aggravation & so much clay & planning just so you can share it with us. And like I said before, you are the BEST most patient & clearest teacher ever. I still feel intimidated to attempt making this box but it's so incredible that I just have to try. And you have made me feel like I can actually do it! I am incapable of designing a cane or anything like that, I'm just not creative or talented enough. I could never even choose color combinations on my own because I always think they'll look bad together. And I'd never in a million years think to use the colors you have used for this box together as you did, I would never be brave or bold enough to. But you did and they are GORGEOUS together. Alright, I'll stop rambling now. Every time I leave you a comment it ends up being more like an essay, sorry. I just think you are so amazing & I wanted to tell you how very much you are appreciated. So thank you again, so much
Well, that has just made my day, thank you so much for such amazing comments, and absolutely you can do this. Just take it slow, don't expect too much for your first one, we all learn so much from making mistakes on our first pieces, and be happy with what you make. I cant wait to see what you do, and know that you'll have fun doing it. Thanks again :) xx
Not only are your tutorials amazing and so much appreciated. But... your voice makes me so relaxed and honestly coming from me this should mean a lot as I have autism and usually find a lot of voices very annoying and irritating. I actually love your voice! Thanks anyway for the tutorials I appreciate them so so so much!
@@FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals I am definitely not good enough to do something at this level yet. I hope to one day so am grateful for this video. Is there anyway you could suggest, or do a video on an easy way to do this. Could for example, I decorate a ceramic box using the methods you used to make the tiles?

@@deedoubleu2611 Hi Dee, yes of course you can cover a ceramic box, you can normally cover a glass one, a Paper Mache one too, and several people have covered wooden boxes with polymer clay. Search on RU-vid for covering boxes in Polymer Clay, I had a quick look as I was going to give you a link, but there were literally loads to choose from, so it's better if you see if one sparks your interest instead ;) I wasn't planning on covering a ready made box, as it has been done before, but I have covered a glass bauble/ornament with glittered strips of clay, so the technique is the same, you could check out this one of mine, and apply the technique to other canes. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-T1B7doVKGJM.html I have recently put a tutorial on Etsy, which is triangular canes and square canes covering a round glass bauble/ornament too, not that I am suggesting you buy it, but as I have done one people are paying for, it is unlikely that I will do something similar for free for a while, if that makes sense? I hope at least something I have mentioned helps, and that you have great fun experimenting :)
@@FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals thank you so much. I really appreciate all your help and all your videos! If I have any money leftover after Xmas I will definitely check it out. I understand that you are giving away your time and valuable knowledge in your RU-vid videos as well as replying to me, so I would be more than happy to help out if I can! Thanks again for all your help and I hope you are keeping well and enjoying the holidays! 😊🎄
This box is absolutely beautiful and meticulously finished. I love your creativity and use of colors. I think most of all you are one of the most gifted instructors I've ever seen. Thank you so much for your patience and ability to understand how challenged beginners can be. I can't wait to try one on my owner watching you while I do it.
I do not work with polymer clay. This video is a pure random mistake, but I could not help but watch it. Amazing! Such a gorgeous box! Love your slightly psychedelic colors! You are extremely talented. You are an artist. It is very pretty. I am totally in awe. Speechless. I even had to share it with my husband. Both of us are very impressed.
Hi Fiona ,, I absolutely love the design its so very wimsical and I love the butterfly's 🦋 I ordered some dishes 6 in a set of porcelain ones, and polymere clay,, the trinket box you done in this video would also look fantastic,, like you did the other ones in your previous trinket box video as its easy for beginners,, I would have put a cone in the middle of the one in this video, in a black or color that matched the pattern. So you could just lift it up by the cone or hexagonal spire. I don't have a pasta machine any more so have to use the old method of rolling it even and to the right thickness. But I'll work around it.just imagine a perfume bottol done this way square would probably be the easiest way around that, if using the idea of the previous trinket box where the perfume shows through the shapes, for a refillable bottle only using one color clay,, so the perfume color shows through,, i have an Egyptian perfume bottle encrusted with crystals ,that i got from Amazon, looks beautiful. variation on theme I suppose!!! Take care 😃🦋💐
You make is so that we all understand. I absolutely love your videos. Born in Cornwall but now live in Australia, I tell everyone in claying I know, to watch your videos because you make it so easy doing it in steps thank you so much and you also do it in inch,s for us older ladies that have no idea about centre meters 🇦🇺🌹🌹🌹🌹
Truly very inspiring video. The way you make your canes completely blew my mind open! I was watching at double speed because I couldn't afford the hour and a half to watch it and even then, your voice was southing and peaceful! LOL
I absolutely love this, and can't wait to do one myself! I was actually thinking about taking it one step further, and putting the triangle separators in, to create dividers, and use it as a small jewellery box, or for other tiny trinkets. The possibilities are endless, thank you, for another beautiful tutorial!
Fiona Abel-Smith PolyOriginals: I’m very grateful that you’re showing us functional polymer ideas. I don’t wear jewelry and could only think of making buttons for sewing with it. With the boxes you’ve provided me with an enormous amount of possibilities. Thank for the time I will spend planning them out.
To be honest I just really love the way you talk, your accent, everything! You just seem like such a lovely person with sweet personality! It makes me feel like I'm sitting in a cozy home in the countryside with a cup of tea. I love it!
I have never worked with this material... If I have to make a box like that, there is no money enough in the whole world to pay me... what a job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At first, I thought this was going to be way too busy, then wondered if that could be a thing...? I was amazed with the finished product. ❤️❤️❤️ It reminded me of this place in Pa (Phipps Conservatory) where they have flower and plant displays. The pattern made me think of the exotic flower displays they have. Gorgeous.
Fiona, wow. Ive watched hundreds of tutorials. Im a novice and trying to come along in in poly clay. I have found ur tutorials to be the best. This has been the most informative video ive ever seen. Bless u for giving so much info on one video. I can follow ur creative process as u create this cane as well as the technical aspects. U are a awesome teacher. Im still having problems fiqureing out how to determinehow much clay to use. How big to make my cane etc. but i followed ur tutorial and my box is coming alone well. Now is the hard part finishing the cane and arranging on the box. Still having problems reducing without distorting. Sigh. Oh well. Ill Keep practicing. Ive watched ur reducing process closely. Just cant seem to get my cane not to distort. Thank you for ur generous sharing.
Thank you so much Karen, that is a wonderful compliment. I am so happy you are enjoying the tutorials :) Yes reducing is the one thing that really only comes with practice and patience. I actually don't press in that hard down each side, it is a gentle but even pressing in, while sort of pulling outwards, again very gently at the same time. It is the amount of repetitions of doing this, the same motion down one side, then turn repeat, turn repeat that is the key. The first few times it hardly moves at all, but then, as you get the inner bits of clay starting to reduce as well, it moves on more quickly. The good thing is, that it is like riding a bike, once it suddenly clicks, and your fingers get the right pressure and motion, you have it, and you are off and will never look back. The main thing always is to have fun and enjoy it :)
😃❤️ I am a few years late on finding your channel, but I came across it a couple days ago. Your craft and artistry is absolutely beautiful!!. Subscribed instantly! This morning I had coffee in bed and watched you make this…..It was a glorious hour and half. I thank you for not only giving me a peaceful way to start my day……but also a gentle reminder that there are no limits or boundaries to our imagination…..as long as we are willing to use it!!! Thank you and many blessings to you!,❤️🦋🫶
Having never used clay before, I came across this video and thought I would have a go. I went to a nearby hobby store and bought what I needed and using this video, I had a go at my first project. Thank you for the easy to understand directions as it’s ensured a complete newbie like me have been able to a box and I’m very pleased with it. Thank you
Oh wow, you have no idea how happy I am to hear that. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment and I am so thrilled that you found the tutorial easy to follow. You have made my day :)
At first, I wondered why you would say that, then I saw EXACTLY what you meant, and I COMPLETELY agreed!!!!!! Then I saw the magic, and knew I was watching GENIUS!!! It was exactly that... Magical genius!
This is a lovely tutorial, informative and well-produced. I've been researching a bit for my disabled daughter who's just developed an interest in polymer clay and your work is not only beautiful but your instruction is clear and straightforward. It also makes me feel a bit wistful as well... I ran a pottery studio from the late 70's to the early '90's and so many of the building techniques are the same, watching you makes me realize how much I miss those days.
Thank you so much Bob. Maybe it is something you and your daughter can do together? Your skills will pass effortlessly into working with polymer clay, and would also be a fantastic addition to the polymer community :)
Fiona, you are truly the queen of polymer deign. I so enjoy your videos. I think I have watched every one of your them. It’s becaue of you I got into making my own creations. I could listen to your calming voice for hours. Truth is I have listened to you for hours. 😊 Thank you, from America.
The trinket box is just amazing!!! I have never heard of some of the things you used but now I will go looking!!! Oh, by the way, I think I need to be thanking you!!!!!!!
Thank you so very much for this tutorial. You are extremely thorough and your attention to detail is wonderful. I've watched too many videos where they throw something together and it looks sloppy. Yours is extremely professional, perfect and lovely. Your voice is very soft and nice to listen to also.
Thank you very much for the tutorial! You are so generous with your time and free tutorials and it is so very much appreciated! God Bless and have a wonderful day. Oh your boxes turned out Beautiful!
Hello, I finally tried to make this beautiful box, I still have work before arriving at an impeccable cane! After 3 days of work, I am still quite happy with the result ... Thanks again for these great explanations without which I will never have been able to realize it !!
@@marie-heleneguillemaut9631 If you have FB you can upload an image from your computer to FB. Then just post a link to it. Other than that I'm not sure. I think YT is only for videos.
This is impressive work. The attention to detail amazed me as I had no idea this much could be accomplished using polymer clay. Thanks for doing this detailed video so we can see how this is done the right way. Blessings to you for continuing success in this skilled craft and your generous life.
This is absolutely stunning!!!! The only thing I noticed was that the tile you're using has a bit of a strange texture that's showing up on your finished pieces. It's especially noticeable on the dark blue pieces.
Thanks Tamera. The tile is in fact completely flat, the rippled effect you can see is the clay having gone through the pasta machine, which happens at times. As this was the underneath colour, I wasn't worried about it. Had it been a top layer, I would have rolled it flatter before adding it to the box. I hope that helps, but well observed :)
Hi Fiona, I have found that rather than use foil to 'tent' the clay, I use two aluminium baking trays , the bottom one covered with a layer of tee shirt material to avoid the clay becoming shiny. I then clip them both together using small size bulldog clips at either end. This method saves me having to make foil tents every time I bake my polymer clay. Hope this tip is useful to your subscribers. Hugs from 🇦🇺
Hello, I’m so very new to this form of art. Im in awe of the work I’ve seen. Question though, how are you able to bake clay (I bought a sufficient size toaster oven) without burning the T-shirt material (or the paper)? Thank you ladies 🙏😊
@@janicefrancis5193 As the clay bakes at such a low temperature, many things, including card, some materials etc can be baked with it. If in doubt, bake whatever it is you are planning on using first, to check it survives okay :) I hope that helps :)
Absolutely beautiful. I love just watching how you put the designs together and as hard as it was for me to see the finished design its like you just knew. Really enjoying watching your videos. Your voice is very relaxing and it helps me to calm down while also getting to enjoy your pieces.
Спасибо за мастер класс!все ясно и понятно даже не знвя языка! Речь спокойная, голос ровный.смотреть одно удовольствие.спасибо за приятные минуты просмотра! Удачи вам и новых идей!
Wow Fiona! I need to make at least two of these boxes! What a glorious design. Thank you for such a clear, calm tutorial, I'll be claying all day tomorrow! ❤
I’m just getting into polymer clay and watching your videos like crazy. My main hobby is bonsai trees so I’m trying to see if I can use polymer clay to make bonsai pots. Your videos are helping to think it is possible. Thanks so much, Tim
Regarding the hexagon How do you keep the triangles From cutting all the way through And then have 6 triangle ppieces stuck together? How do you get it to do just the outside edge ?I've enjoyed this tutorial and it is so beautiful. Nice job.
Ive just found you searching polymer clay tutorials. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I havent bought anything yet, but am eager to have a go. So thank you from Australia 🇦🇺🙏🏼💞
Dear Fiona, I just finished watching your fascinating video. Your voice is lovely to listen to, and all the steps involved in making this box make me appreciate the process of creating it. I can't get over how the canes change when you "smoosh" them into a combined shape, and all the possibilities of designs depending on which triangles you combine. These would make wonderful scarf designs for fabrics. I so admire your artistry! Have a good week! Best wishes, Dianna
Brilliant tutorial. You’re so easy to listen to and everything was so well explained. This probably was a little adventurous for me to make as it’s only my second attempt at polymer clay crafting but I’m really pleased with how it’s turned out. Thank you Fiona.
I cannot wait to have the time to make this, its no. 1 on my list as soon as i do. Thank you so much Fiona, for giving of your time and skill so generously. Its fantastic.
I had a rough day and this video showed up in my recommends. I’m so glad I clicked. Your voice is soothing and the box was delightful to watch come together.
I don't do polymer clay either, BUT, this is so beautiful and the tutorial is so well done, I have to try this. I think I might acquire another addiction to my list, i.e. soap, acrylics, resin and so on and so on. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.
thanks so much, and yes, definitely give polymer clay a go, it is so much fun, but should come with a warning too, once you start you wont want to stop ;) :)
Thank you for a great tutorial. Bc of them I have become more confident to explore all the different avenues of polymer clay! Please keep making these amazing and wonderful videos!!
@Fiona Abel-Smith Polyoriginals, I’ve recently been thrashing about looking for inspiration and new ways of doing things and I landed on your tutorials. Before I did, I always considered Carol Simmons the mistress of caning, but you clearly give her a run for her money! Your soothing voice (which could prolly make you a fortune doing those phone calls where men pay by the minute to make sexy talk with a lady over the phone!) makes it easy to sit here for hours listening to you as you make really lovely, clever canes. I’m enjoying the heck out of listening to and watching you make canes. The hell with inspiration; you’re soothing me so that I don’t feel bad about my ideas having dried up. ☺️ Thanks ever so much for doing sooo much work on our behalves, making us smarter about caning. You’re a goddess! Please keep up the amazing work, as I imagine you’re improving the work of fimoteuses all over the globe!
awww bless you, what a lovely comment :) Don't worry about lack of inspiration, that happens to all of us at some stage, so doing what you're doing is the best way forward, and suddenly something someone says, or something you see will set you off on a new wave of ideas and you'll be off again :)
WOW! Stunning tutorial and stunning result. You are so brilliant to give us mere mortals the instructions to create the form to make the box. The cane you used is s gorgeous, looking simple yet complicated to make. I need to practice more on creating kaleidoscope canes that I am happy with. You are a true artist with polymer clay. TFS
