Project Polymorph is a Smart Media Platform that I am working on as an art / research project in my spare time. The platform includes an app and a fabric which connects all the apps together via a P2P-like topology. The Polymorph project has caused me to have to do quite a bit of research into many different media and network related topics, including P2P network algorithms, asynchronous communication, network protocols, data formats etc. etc.

Great to hear :-) ... I don't know exactly when it will all go public - and how much will be open source etc. Some core parts definately will be though. But - I need to get the "core design" implemented first - so that the rest of the functionality can be attached to a solid skeleton ! I am in the process of implementing the design these days, but it will take some time before there is a fully functional core!

Decentralized apps tend to be hard and complex to implement... looking forward to learning more details

Yes, they are! But they are are so much more challenging - and fascinating in my opinion :-)

Hopefully it will get more interesting once more and more pieces are working in proof-of-concept. Also, I will probably be publishing videos etc. about what I learn along the way.

Hey Jacob! a bit offtopic, but could you make a video series about OOP concepts, maybe explain one of your favorite/useful design pattern. You have a great content, keep going! // likes&shares

Hi Dick, I have been considering that... especially since the way we normally use OOP in practice is somewhat different from how OOP is taught in schools and universities.

It will be released in small phases. One "technology" at a time :-) It will take some years before a full system is working. But parts are already working in proof-of-concept.

Yes, this project still needs a lot more details and a lot more work to get to proof-of-concept. For now the main purpose is "art" and "research" - meaning - to see if I can create a design that can meet all my requirements, and to see if I can also implement such a design. Right now it seems like it is possible, but I will only know for sure once I have implemented af POC.

Is this a project you are working on alone or within a team?

So far - alone :-) ... mostly in my spare time. Lots of designs to finalize before anyone else would be able to contribute :-) However, at this point I believe I have the most important designs "done" - meaning I have design suggestions I believe can meet the ideas mentioned in this video.

Some parts of it might be published as open source. Other parts might be commercial - but then affordable for everyone. Many of the techniques and learnings I plan to publish for free too.

Also why not do a web-service? seems like a desktop app is not that great of an idea, also a bit overly-engineered

Web technology has a lot of annoying limitations that can only be overcome with executable applications. Thus, either a "service" for the infrastructure part, and a real desktop app for the local client / media player part. It's all very experimental, so I don't want to use any technologies that can limit what can be done. Web tech does that - too much.

At this point it isn't really possible to contribute, as the implementation of all this is still very early. I need to get some designs "finished" too, before I can even start implementing those parts. But I will make videos about it as it progresses :-)
