Work will begin later this month to remove trees infested with Polyphagous shot-hole borer (PSHB) from Hyde Park.
The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) will remove 144 trees in phases. The trees are heavily infested with PSHB, right down to the lower trunk.
With no known treatment for PSHB, trees can become unsafe and die in as little as two years. Removal is currently the only way to stop the pest spreading to other trees.
Losing trees will be difficult for all of us. We have already started working with the community on plans for a replanting program that will see Hyde Park protected for future generations.
