他們的產品CareCoatexTM 可提供長效的抗菌和抗病毒保護，特別在當前的流行病情況下非常有用。此外，他們還在探索將技術應用於食用塗膜，減少食物腐爛而做成的浪費及在運輸中交差傳染風險。

PolyU academic-led start-up Grand Rise Technology Limited was co-founded by Professor Li Pei and businessman Mr Tenny Lam. Their core-shell particle technology successfully combines incompatible materials to create new materials with potential applications in different fields. The team is dedicated to researching and developing environmentally friendly materials and aims to bring more value to society.
Chitosan is a natural antimicrobial biomaterial. Prof. Li extracted chitosan from the recycled shells of crustaceans such as shrimps and crabs. She then turned the chitosan into a two-layer nanosphere using a patented synthesis method. Chitosan forms an antibacterial outer layer, while the inner layer forms a film that attaches to the surface of an object. This makes the object more resistant to bacteria and greatly reduces any harm to the human body or the environment.
Their product, CareCoatexTM, provides long-lasting antibacterial and antiviral protection, which has been particularly useful during the current pandemic. They are also exploring the application of their technology to edible coatings with the aim of reducing food waste caused by spoilage and lowering the risk of cross-contamination during transportation.
