Here is what the PM delivered in his speech in Trivandrum during his election campaign. “Among the Scheduled Tribe population of Kerala (1.1%), the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) is worse than that of Somalia” The above statement is nearly true, if one see the reality. The overall IMR of Kerala is 12, which is far better than National average of 40. But among the Scheduled Tribe population of Kerala it is 60, which is almost nearer to Somalia’s number - 85. Here he is trying to stress the condition of the Scheduled Tribes living in Kerala State. In an Election Campaign, it is a requirement also a responsibity of a candidate to high light todays situation and what improvement that he can offer for the betterment. That is what is his intention. Media people should report the actuals, and they should not have any other motive. Similar statements were made by Shri Achuthanantan and Pinaray also? Why we Keralites never made that an issue? And now it has become an issue because Narendra Modi is an outsider? We have to look at the facts not the situation nor who states it. On the other hand, when one makes a comparison of other indices like unemployment and industrialization, we are far behind than other states. Our contribution to the nation GDP is not that attractive. What is the use that we are 100% literate! Many of us have to go out to find a livelihood.
