............quanti ricordi e quanta pieta' oggi.

It brought tears to my eyes. The frescos are warm, supple and farther advanced than the art of many centuries later.

QUESTION - I have to wonder, for Italians, how it feels to look back into the past at your own heritage, to know your ancestors created something so lasting and still relevant, far from perfect, but nevertheless, world changing. HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE ITALIAN TODAY?
@domenicorongo8296

I am italian (near pompeii) I had never visited these places near my home about 20 km. because for me they were obvious. Thanks to foreign friends I rediscovered the WORLD beauty and historical importance of my beautiful country. Well I can only be PROUD. Besides Pompeii there are also Herculaneum, Stabia, Oplontis, (Annunciation tower) etc.

My family came from in and around Naples mainly, a stone’s throw away from Pompeii. I have always, ALWAYS, been aware of the beauty of my people’s heritage. I study Greek and Roman Classics, and it is personal to me because I am a direct descendant of the peoples I study. I am also part Greek due to the long-standing Greek presence in Naples and southern Italy. Some try to distance ancient and modern Italians and Greeks from their heritage (ie. claiming the Parthenon marbles are not Greece’s), perhaps out of jealousy, but it will never work. So in a word, beaming pride is how I feel about my ancestry. To look at those painted faces that look so much like my own, it is incredible. Thank you for your question!!

I am amazed at the beauty that was Pompeii, but do not understand how they have rebuilt cities on the same site with so many people endangering their lives living there. There are earthquakes in that area, and no doubt Vesuvius will erupt again one day! Unbelievable to me.

We marvel at what they saw, they would marvel at what we see. Neither have or will appreciate it until it's all gone. One day everything we have seen, touched or owned will be gone forever and no-one will ever know you or anything you've seen ever existed. The only true possessions one has is memories. make the most of them because like what these people have seen; will be gone forever also. Someone needs to build a Pompeii replica city for the future generations to enjoy, and for those who wish to escape modernity; even live there.

Pompeii is a reminder of what can happen to any society living in blissful complacency. How could they have been warned? I've seen a lot of videos of Pompeii but you have sought to capture it's atmosphere much so that I can imagine living there at the time. The houses are built with substantial strength since they needed to resist frequent earthquake activity. One wonders why they chose to settle there until you comprehend how fertile the terrain is and just how easy it would have been to grow organic healthy fruit and vegetables. People must have been strong, healthy with long lifespans. They wore minimal scantily clad light weight fabric that they simply wrapped around themselves apon waking since the weather was warm. Homes were insulated and cooled by wide stone walls and high ceilings where hot air would rise and stay. Children would inherit wonderful estates that they would decorate to excess and I can imagine people keeping up appearances for each other by inviting each other over for dining banquets. Life must have been slow and excessively relaxed. People were humane and happy and they had pets they would take out for a walks. Homes were built resourcefully since they would conserve labour and stone by building huge party walls between adjoining properties and instead had central courtyards flanked by rooms with windows opening out onto to them. Houses were secure and private and contained. I dream of living in such a villa today. All destroyed by a sleeping volcano that decided to wake up one day. Ignorance is Bliss, until......
