Beautiful transformation. It makes you think though, the fish were spawning like crazy in the pea soup aftermath. Although it may have been the giant water change after the pea soup. Then gently swimming though the crystal clear water in the end. Certainly more appealing to the human eye. Excellent work, the owner should be very happy!
I really liked all that you did, it shows the difference between those with experience and those with little to No experience. It’s nice to see you making what you need instead of buying a very expensive alternative to do the same thing
Very nice job to all of you! I have a 5000 gallon koi pond in my backyard and another 5000 gallon in my front yard with a channel/river connected, my koi love going back and forth.
Yeah those Aquascape pond parts should be priced a lot lower tha'st for sure. Very frustrating to see those prices. I had to find a better solution 😉 Thank you for watching!
@@Red.Scapes well thank you, I did the pvc pipes, slits in the with a 6” snorkel for the clean out. My pond has limited space since a cement patio is built around it and I don’t have the yard. I have a pressurized filter, and pump/skimmer with both leading to the plant bog with the pvc, pvc snorkel and crates /rocks as the secondary pond cleaner. My pressurized filter has a uv light so I don’t have to worry about pea soup water. I use to have only the pressurized filters so added the bog in a 150 gallon Rubbermaid stock tank. Someday when we move to more land I will have what you did, instead of the skimmer have an intake bay and plant bog within the pond. Love what you did! So agree in the Aquascape prices and love your alternatives diy! Great sons to help! We had 4 girls! 😀
I still buy the Aquascape stuff. With the price of labor it's actually cheaper to buy and not have to spend hours making this up on site .. just another way to look at it. Not hating
Thx a mil for sharing this totally spell-binding & exciting video of a true lover and profound expert of nature in action! Wow! This is better than Home Alone! serious!!👌👋✌💥💫. ps - not all eco lovers prefer the plastic lining trench option? i.e, if plastics in fact were used in the operation? Are there more natural options than plastics? This notwithstanding- The Ending !!!! congrats also to ur sxcript writer, shooter & editor. A masterful collaborative work of natural wonder. Truly.
Thank you so much for the kind words! And thank you for watching! PS: Clay could be used in lieu of liner, but it's tricky (need the right kind and the right thickness) and more difficult to work with, of course.
Nice before and after contrast. Why the 5 layers of liner is anyone’s guess. There’s no figuring some people’s taste though. I wouldn’t be caught dead with fake swans in my pond. The customer gets what the customer wants I guess. LOL
Yes, I was going to say you have some love making going on. Those babies hatch in like 3-4 days! Whenever I have plants my koi would destroy them doing all that fussing laying eggs. And the males chasing, then everyone else running in to eat the eggs! It’s a massacre of plants in the making. lol
They were using the old liners as ground protection. I mean I don’t know why so many, maybe they kept having leaks. Dogs running on them? Oh probably because they didn’t seal like you did so water would work itself back via pressure or algae and leak underneath so they would just add another one.
Oh my gosh your inexpensive vault is amazing, I don’t understand how they charge upwards of $600 for that same thing in black plastic! I refused. So I I’d the pvc pipes etc and black milk crates.
"Poor man's pump vault" just because you don't want to sell a kidney to buy the Aquascape stuff 😉 but I def agree with you that doing it this way without spending a small fortune,, on a smaller scale, yields the same result and I was definitelly happy with the outcome. Thanks for watching!
It helps if part of the water stays underground away from the sun. Helps regulate water temperature as well. It's the way intake bays are designed. Thanks for watching!
Hey, you guys have some great passion about water features! We would like to invite you to Aquascape Headquarters in St. Charles and take a personal tour of our Aquagardens.
Leaves gather in the new intake bay and you can easily scoop them out. Also no filters to clean, just drop a sump pump once a year in the pump vault and suck all the muck out. Thanks for watching!
Good rework on a bad pond, such large koi in a pond not deep enough the pump pit was deeper. How you made the intake bay it will need cleaning regularly to much fish s**t will destroy the nitrogen cycle.. and make methane
Question : since the rocks are directly under the sun, they will heat the water and algeas will grow back ?!! Has for the surrounding, the grass will grow until the edge of the pound and there is the risk of cutting the membrane while cutting the grass ?!
If you have good water circulation and an established ecosystem with enough water plants, then alge won't thrive. As far as the sides around the pond, as I said in the video, they were planning to build a walkway/patio and also plant some bushes and plants all the way around. Thanks for watching!
Ok! Thanks for your time. I have a project, small one, my first aventure with a pound. My challenge will also include weather (up to 35 ° c in summer and down to -25 ° Celsius in winter... ). Will search for your other videos.
@anniegueveneux8161 some shade always helps too, even if it's just water lilies inside the pond. Good luck with your project and I'm available if you have other questions.
Your last sentence. I too love working in the garden; building vegetable gardens, ponds, filtration systems, decks, composting systems, fences, pathways, ... Mistakes are made. But it's fun. Kids craft in school. This is crafting for adults.
The fish have a tendency to mess around with the plants, pull them, try to eat them, and so on. So they should be planted in pots in order to last. Also some (like water lilies) might be invasive and spread too much. Thanks for watching!
have to say i know the pros aren't cheap but that pond at the start id say is what you get when you go cheap. That thing would make me hate even looking outside .What a terrible job that was!!
Agreed! It probably looked better at the start but then the landscape guys messed it up over time. Needed some love that's for sure. Thanks for watching!
@@Red.Scapes can I use normal pottery clay if there is a not natural clay under the sand. I do see people talk about Bentonite clay, but I'm not sure where it originate from. Thank you. I need to do more research on what kinds of clay I can use.
I watch them all the time! The problem here was they already had the ring of pearls look (this pond was initially done by others) and we tried to reuse whatever rocks they had on site since the owner didn't want to order more.. We did our best to break that round of pearls pattern by moving the stones around and not making a complete circle like they had before but that's the best we could come up with what we had on hand. Thanks for watching!
