Brilliant 😊 just what I needed… my little pond is coming on nicely, we now have a water beetle, great excitement. Now it’s time to plant the pond up. Thanks as ever for your friendly and informative videos Ed 🐸

Thanks Sarah! Great to hear your pond is establishing- it’s amazing how fast wildlife will move into a new pond! I frequently encounter pond skaters and water beetles after only a day or two of filling when building ponds. Provide a home and nature will come!

Absolutely excellent information Ed. I will be following your advice from several of your videos as I remake my own pond in the summer….I love water gardens but dislike water gardening immensely, even after 50 years as a nurseryman, so I guess it will amuse my own channel viewers as we film the progress….I will of course credit your channel as I find it the easiest to follow, the most interesting, while being incredibly informative and plantwise especially, technically on the money. It won’t make me enjoy the task any more but at least I can learn to do it properly……well done, thank you, and best wishes…..Malcolm…..Plantsmans Corner.

Thank you very much for your kind words Malcolm-I’ll check your channel out for some bedtime viewing! Also thank you for mentioning me on one of your videos-I’ve already received a new sub and some comments from viewers directed to my channel from you!! If you could forward me a link/details of which video this was I’d love to watch it! Good luck with your pond ventures and I look forward to watching progress with the rest of your subs!! Best regards and a happy new year to you, Ed

great information i had blackfly for a couple of seasons and (not sure if it's the right thing to do) but.. submerged the leaves for a while for the fish to eat them as they floated off loving your videos, keep them coming

Thank you! Aphids are a pain for sure! Leaf submersion is a great way to knock off some of the nasty critters into the water and your fish will love them as a treat! Best, Ed

my first summer of having a pond is coming to an end, and I planted two lillies this year, one did amazingly and the other barely grew! Thankfully I had no disease, beetle or black fly and its been a really hot summer here in Canada so I was worried that something might happen. We have two frogs who used to sit on the pads when they were smaller, but as the pads have shrunk a little as summer has progressed and the frogs have got rather fat so they prefer to sit in the foliage round the pond now.

Thanks for sharing and amazed you’ve watched one of my vids all the way over in Canada!! Lilies will take a season or two to really establish so you may find the weaker of the two does better next year. Best, Ed

Hi I have a koi pond and it’s just under 4 foot deep and I am after a big leaves Lilly could you recommend me a lily for me please

Hi there! I’d look for a large robust variety such as ‘Darwin/Hollandia’, ‘Mrs Richmond’, ‘attraction’, ‘Texas dawn’, ‘gladstonia’. These are all large varieties that will tolerate such depths of water but do ensure you can provide as much sunlight as possible. You’ll need to encase the lily basket in a form of cage to ensure your koi can’t gain access to the plants growing substrate. An upturned hanging basket cage or some plastic mesh cable tied to the top of the basket works well here! Good luck! Best, Ed
