Great information I’m in need of a pond vacuum my pond is 4’ in depth.

I would probably lean to one of the pond-o-vacs mainly because they'll handle up to about 6' in most cases. There is intermittent and continuous duty vacs in that line and prices will vary according to that...so certainly something to choose from.

Would be nice with a few other options...

The options are dwindling somewhat in this category. Finding one that will hold up and do the job (and this varies a lot by the situation) can be a challenge.

It would be nice to see it in actual usage.

+33uptempo My best advice would be to head over to the respective websites from the manufacturers of any vacs and see if they have a video of their device in action. Since this video was done the vac market has changed a bit with new models and some brands are now hard to find in the US. Generally though you simply want to try and match the best vac option to your needs and situation. Not always easy to do, and I agree, performance videos can be helpful here.

I watched your video and I have a few questions. I bought a Pondovac3 a few days ago and it has not been much use to me. Briefly, if I use it in clean water it sucks and pumps perfectly, discharging steadily. If I put it in my pond it operates for only about 15 -20 seconds and then the output ceases. I stop the machine, open the outlet drain and mucky water pours out. No, it’s not that I am dumping the water uphill. The slope away from there device is definitely downhill. I then take off the top and it seems as though the filters are clogged. Yes, I can wash them off and start again. Again, it sterts to work but soon stops as before. It looks as though the little pieces of algae/muck are of dimensions that the filter cannot handle them. I’ve tried many things but the problem remains. I just returned the device. Any suggestions? Any other units that do a better job than the Pondovac3? If, so can you say why? I need to know before Ordering another dVice. They are not cheap. I see there is a Pondovac5 i Germany. Did they give up on the P3 and P4? Gravel and stones are not the problem in this pond.

+Andrew Wilson Tough call on this one...it sounds defective to me quite frankly. Its not that the pond o vacs are perfect but they usually work alright. Since this video was done, which is almost 6 years ago, we have stopped carrying the pond o vacs for several reasons...none really due to performance however. If you don't have heavy debris to pick up, I don't think the POV4 would be bad to look at. There aren't any other continuous flow vacs available that I know of, which makes this unique. There is the pond monsta in the UK but it's availability is limited elsewhere I think. Sounds though like you followed the suggestions as best as you could and it still didn't quite work out...so you did the right thing by sending it back.

What would you suggest for vacuuming the leaves that fall in all year long?

Hi Paul. I've changed my mind a little since this video was done. I think the muck vac is good at best for very light duty work. Some people get by with it fine but it's very under powered for many folks. Of what's out there on the market today, and relatively affordable, I would look at the Oase Pond-O-Vacs. Model 3 on up. As well, I always liked the Pond Monsta from the UK...and you may find that on Ebay these days. Matala makes one called the Cyclone that is good, but kind of pricey. Expect to pay around $300 on up for a decent, continuous vac. Hope this helps for you!

I just wish all vac's would come with or have a better mesh bag (finer, silk, micro holes)or at least be able to buy one online some where!!!!!

The Pond Monsta used to have this bag thing available...but you don't see many with that option unfortunately.
