The story is set around 1000 a.d in the Tamizh society. Before any war it was customary to make a blood sacrifice to the goddess of war Kottravai. Even though there is no war in this particular event, the song in this scene indicates the secret coup being planned. The lyrics and choreography also has bloody tones and of invoking the god and goddess of war and asking for blessings with a promise of blood sacrifice. It's an interesting read.

This was inspired from monkey dance from Bali, since the Tamil culture still exists in Bali with direct roots to the chola kingdom!

>> AR Rahman created this song which was heavily inspired by an Indonesian Folk Dance performance done in Bali in the Bali Uluwatu Temple to be exact. This Balinese folk dance is called the Tarian Kecak (Kecak Dance). >> However, this Balinese temple is an ancient Hindu temple and therefore there is a lot of the ancient Hindu inspired culture influence deeply rooted in Indonesia as well. This Kecak Dance is often performed as an Acapella of around 50 males and comes with costumed drama play, which depicts the events in the Hindu epic The Ramayana.Quite similiar to how it is portrayed in the movie as well. >> The coincidental trivia about this song in the video and that Balinese Tarian Kecak is : in Both of the performances you will hear the Chanting of "Chek ! Chek ! Chek ! Chek ! ". In Indonesian language its short for the word Kecak which is the title of the dance. However that same chant of Chek ! Chek ! in Ponniyin Selvan holds a little bit different meaning. In the Tamil language, Chek is short for the word Chekka which means the colour crimson red. Thus why the Dancers in the film are seeing wearing Red paint on the face. >> In the movie Ponniyin Selvan - the film revolves around a real Historic Figure but based on Fictional events. It is based during the Chola Empire of India. Which DOES however DO connect, since the main character of this film Ponniyin Selvan is actually a moniker for a real Ancient Chola King called " Raja Raja Cholan ". And historically, He DID sail from south of india and conquered much of Ancient South East Asia. He Did build many temples, cities and left legacies in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand which are still standing till today. In Ancient times there were these 3 popular ancient kingdom dynasties of India. And they are known as the Chola Dynasty, The Cheras Dynasty and the Pandya Dynasties. >> In Fact even in Malaysia there is a Road called " Jalan Raja Chulan " in Kuala Lumpur even a top 5 Star Hotel called The Royale Chulan as well. which is basically dedicated to King Chola. And personally even I live in a town in Kuala Lumpur. And it is called Cheras. Cheras is the other rival Empire for the Chola's after the Pandyas. BUT the film is highly fictional actually mainly because this film is based on a Novel written by "Kalki" Arumugam.

I refute that there is plagiarism here, it is a wholly misplaced term and insults the creativity and pathbreaking innovation ARR displays. Kecak chant forms the skeleton of this concept, bringing the flavour and mythology of the time to cinematic context. Its raw primal war cry, blended with Yogi Sekhar’s clear powerful melody invoking Lord Muruga’s blessings before the carnage is nothing short of exemplary. Tempo, voice use, acapella harmonies and orchestration gives just the right dramatic tint to enthrall listeners. It’s downright dumb to even consider plagiarism here. There no argument about the composition’s originality and adapting an ancient chant to enhance relevant storytelling.

It is more like three musketeers. Vandiyadevan being D' Artagnan and Nandini is inspired from Milady. And no this story didn't really happen. Some events and characters are historical but story is fictional.

Cinemondo guys I am not here to tell you what it is for there is 1 person down or up as explained, so i will save my effort in explaining. I want you to pay attention to the tempo of the song does it ring a bell? Well it is equal to luring of prey and slitting it's throat in one go and that is how it portrayed. The song started very slowly as if you are setting up a bait and in the end the visual itself showed slitting of the throat. This is in reference to dessimating the Chozha Empire, you won't understand until and unless you watch the movie. Hope i conveyed it in an easiest manner.

Good song but this is not a particular dance form and choreographed specifically for the film unlike Kantara's ritual dance form, Buta kola. Guys please please react to NAVARASAM its a fantabulous song (kinda 5 minute short film) with a great message you will like it 200% , yeah its the rumored original song of Kantara's varaha roopam lyrical.❤
