The Roman aqueduct of Pont du Gard is one of the greatest sights in all of ancient history. It's an incredibly impressive structure. In fact, it is the tallest ancient bridge and the second-highest structure the Romans ever built, after the Coliseum in Rome, which is just 6 feet higher.

Not only is this a work of great engineering, but it has come down to us as one of the most important works of art of the ancient world, a work of great architecture recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was built to carry water from the countryside into the city of Nîmes, which was a big Roman center back in those days, and it continued carrying water for five hundred years.

I know it’s been a while since this video was posted but I went to the spot you recommended and got the most perfect picture of the Pont du Gard. And there where NO people on this side of it. Another note is that this side is this side is all original unlike the other side that has the added walkway from the 18th century

I’m mainly a World War II Buff, but I love Dabbling in other kinds of History like Rome Empire, WWI, My Great Grandpa was in the Norwegian Army during WW1 & My other Grandpa was with General George S Patton of The Third Army they called them selfs The Iron Men Of Metz in WW2. He was also in the 377 Infantry Division Regiment. He was part of the break - though at the Siegfried line.

Why should they bomb an aqueduct?

So the bridge itself carries water ??

it used to, that's why the Romans built it, but now it is dry, preserved as a historic landmark. The lower level was also a bridge for people to use crossing the river.

Head up for anyone plan on go there. The parking area have no surveillance or any security system of any type. During my family visit last year our car got broken into and stole all of our luggage. The funny thing is the thief even stole my book , a historical book written in my native language. I don't know why they think it's a good idea to stole the book that most people in your country wouldn't be able to read.
