Beautiful car. When I was 17 years old, in 1978, I took my test on our 76 Grand Safari and passed!!! I Drove that car to college for four years and more than anyone else in our family. It was also fully loaded with the wood and the rally II Wheels.... looked very sporty for a large station wagon and had the rectangular headlights as well. It was always, heavily waxed, garaged, and kept in Immaculate condition until sold in 1993. Wish I had it back!!! Ours was a little larger with the power clamshell tailgate, 3 seats, and the 455 4-barrel. It was the last year of the previous generation Grand Safari.
Road around in a 1977 grand safari wagon in the late 70's. There's been no car like it or has eclipsed it since. What an awesome car it was! Was like your own family limousine. This one is a beautiful surviver! Ours was gold and that was the only difference aside from the interiors.
For 1979, this model became the Bonneville Safari, a moniker it would assume through 1981 (and from 1982-83 for the smaller G-body version). During the spring of 1983, this B wagon returned as the Parisienne Safari.
This car today in this shape is worth over $25K amazing condition and options! I miss Pontioac and I think it had much better styling then Chevy espcially in the Bonnevilles of these years up to 1981.
Beautiful wagon! I own a '81 Bonneville Safari (also white). Wish mine had the Valencia cloth......and the 403! I have a friend on Stationwagonforums.com whose dad bought a new '78 Grand Safari in silver, and special-ordered it with the Valencia cloth. There's quite a few pics over there on it. His name on the forum is '81X11'.
