The Langer decision was so crucial for the entire series. Had he been given out, Pakistan would have probably won that match. This would have set up a fantastic decider. This was turning out to be one of the best series of the 90's, contested by one of the greatest test teams of all time and one of the best Pakistani sides to have played test cricket. There was nothing to separate these two sides. In fact, one could argue, that on paper the Pakistan team was superior. The 3-0 scoreline is very misleading. The loss in the second match knocked the air out of the Pakistan side. Could have been a very different story. Gilly's knock was something else though.
I agree with you...it's like 2001 Kolkata match where VVS & Dravid changed the Aussie flow into their favour and how that elevated their confidence in the 3rd Test to win and thus the series.
no doubt, that pak team was amazing. The 3-0 scoreline does not tell the whole story. Sometimes it's all about the those few crucial moments which change the whole series on its head. Despite that Langer catch, i think that was one of the greatest partnership of all time in test cricket and it needed one to win the match for Aus from that position against a class pak bowling attack..also unfortunately, Pak had to deal with one of the greatest test team of all time in that period just like they had to deal with WI in 1980's under Imran Khan..

Back then Test cricket was very popular and highest paid format of the game. Nowadays with the introduction T20 leagues people can easily earn 10times the money with 1/4th the effort. So people now train for T20's and test cricket is ignored overall. Hence no competition.
Since Imran, Pakistan has never had the unwavering self belief and never say die fighting spirit ... Unfortunate ... with loads of talent in the 90s they could have ruled the world. 😬
Ricky ponting had the nightmare of a series. Scored 3 consecutive ducks until that big hundred (197) came in the 3rd and final test of the series. A great player and one of the most stylish ones.

There is no bowler currently who can truly bowl a reverse swing correctly. What your bowlers or other bowlers do is a mimicry of the legendary reverse swing

Boy should have been Pakistan's match at Belrieve. 2 matches I can't forget Pak should have won.Clear dismissals not given Belrieve against Oz when Langer nicked and against WI when Jimmy Adams was well out both against Wasim Akram and then Saqlain had one turned down here

Pakistan was a beautiful team 20 years ago. Where can you have 3 bowlers who could bowl fast and decimate a batting team.. you have Anwar , inzamam , razzak , Mahmood , Saqlain , Mushtaq Ahmed, akram, waqar, Shoaib . So they had 8 bowlers in 1 team.. then they had afridi and Moin Khan .. what a team.. all become legends of the game.. that team so lost to Australia 3 - 0.. and the 11 that comes today is nothing compared to this team.. all 11 are legends and equal to 10 pakistan teams today..no asian team Is capable to give australia the fight today as india.. srilanka Bangladesh Pakistan land up with high expectations..but they already are on the loosing spree once the toss happens..only india has the potential to give any competition..or else it's all downhill for the rest
