It is always the "quiet" ones... -> He had a collection of clouds. She had a garden in the clouds. I actually found myself feeling for RD in Parental Glideance more. Yes, her parents mean well. But if they keep drowning her in affection, it becomes overwhelming even for someone who loves attention, like Dash. And if they're willing to cheer her on for something as insignificant as hanging a towel...then the praise itself kinda loses its meaning. I don't like how the episode uses Scoots to guilt-trip RD into taking the entirety of the blame. Both parties were somewhat in the wrong, I think that's fairly clear from Bow and Windy firing fireworks during a Wonderbolts show without WARNING ANYONE.

12:00 "Why don't I hear more people talking about this? Derpy would be a great mom." In fanon Derpy (Hooves) is usually considered the mom of Dinky Doo/Dinky Hooves, and often the mom or adoptive mom of Amethyst Star. It's usually pretty adorable. This is probably why her helping that pegasus colt with his derby cart hasn't gained much traction.

My parents are young and nerdy, so I'm fortunate that they've been largely supportive of my hyper-fixations. (They grew up with conservative boomer parents, so I think they understand better than most how it feels to have your passions disrespected.) When it comes to "MLP," our entire household was into it at one point. We took pony personality quizzes online and made vague plans to go to conventions (though that never happened). We even went to see the movie in theaters. A younger coworker of my mom's who was also a fan, went with us. Hands down, my favorite theater experience of 2017, and one of my favorite theater experiences in general. There was something so liberating about being a late-teens/early-twenties girl and enjoying something traditionally "girlie"/"kiddie" without feeling any shame about it because your younger brother, stepdad, and older sister enjoyed it, too. 😁 The only one who never really "got it" was my dad. (The whole idea of the brony fandom was too much for him to handle, let's say.) But he was at least nice enough not to directly put me down over it. Sorry for the text crawl. I've been waiting for a chance to write about this somewhere. Makes me realize how awesome my family is and how much I love them. 🥰 Great video!

Truthfully, I’d take Celestia as a mother. My relationship with my parents hasn’t necessarily been great. Never outright hostile or physical, mostly distanced and dismissive. I’m always told to drop whatever I’m doing to come partake in what the family enjoys, but then when I want them to try something I like, it’s always ‘Ohh, we’ll have to see if we can fit it in our schedules! We might be able to tonight.’ Or when we have guests over, they expect me to engage with whatever they set up, but if I want to show the guests something I’m into, I’m told by my parents that the guests wouldn’t care and wouldn’t be interested in it. It’s why I never really speak about what my interests are, even when asked. When you’re told over a span of years that you should take interest in the lives and interests of others, but told that no one would care about your interests by the two most influential people in a child’s life, you grow to internalize that and come to believe it’s true. Celestia’s attentiveness with Twilight always resonated with me, because my parents have always been so dismissive, I’d stand to argue I never really had parents, just two landlords.

I was gonna make a comment about this as well, but you pretty much said what I was thinking. I love how open Johnny is and he really comes off as emotionally intelligent. I never realized until I was an adult how many people have trouble expressing their feelings properly and I really appreciate genuine displays of emotional vulnerability; it's even more surprising when it's with an audience and not just loved ones. I understand *why* people may have their guards up, and I'm definitely guilty of this myself, but it's honestly such a good feeling when you're able to express yourself in comfort at essentially any time. Not to make too many assumptions about Johnny, of course.

I always thought Dash was in the right, even when they told us that she was in the wrong because she’s in the right to feel like her parents are a little bit too overbearing. I thought the solution would be for her to tell her parents that she appreciates what they’ve done for her but if they could tone down their constant yelling, and Whoopy, you did it and maybe cheer in a less assertive tone? if that’s the right way to call it. I think both Rainbow Dash and her parents in that episode were in the right. They were right to be hurt by her outburst, but she was right to feel the way that she did because despite them being the ones who made her who she is, and that she should appreciate them for what they’ve done for her they also get a little bit in the way with all of that cheering. They mean well, and that’s what matters, but maybe maybe they can celebrate in the less fan girly way and more of a parents way. Like yell at each other, Whoopy, that’s my girl yeah! instead of yelling at other ponies that she’s the best at everything. 🤷‍♀️ just my thought.

My parents are well aware of my love for the series. It was my favorite show growing up and is still one of my favorites to this day. My mom is incredibly supportive and even helped me make Twilight wings (which are massive, we used a maleficent pattern) to wear to a convention to meet Tara Strong. She knows the show is more than your run of the mill kids show and I am so grateful that she’ll happily listen to any talk about it. @@livia4838 To put it in brief, fandom bullshit. The most common sentiment I saw expressed was that AJ's parents were gone so long, how could they just come back, especially since it has been heavily implied/theorized the Apple siblings were orphans. How could their parents just waltz back into their lives? This was entirely based on the info that they were making an appearance at all, with no episode context. Basically, people were mad about their headcannons being messed with.

@@ShadowyKatz That's such a needlessly unpleasant way to say it. Dumb fandom bullshit mad about headcanon? It was incredibly valid criticism of what would have been a terrible idea. The fans were not wrong at all in their response, only wrong in their interpretation of the teased info. The fandom can be blamed for causing outrage over nothing at times, but it's not fair to phrase this as one of those times. Especially since it was a blip as far as how long this drama lasted as we got the episode so soon after.

It was more a case that fans were worried that they would just introduce Applejack's parents the same way they did rarity's parents when Lauren Forest specifically said they are dead and when Applejack looks up at the sky in apple family reunion at the two shooting stars that's representing that they're with her in spirit. She would have even made an episode on their passing, but she didn't think Hasbro would have allowed it.

My parents are completely okay with their adult kids enjoying My Little Pony because our dad turned into the biggest brony out of all of us. We're more casual viewers while dad quickly went from watching over our shoulders to watching on his own to writing fanfiction to attending conventions. The bandaids made me laugh because we've pretty much all gifted him pony stuff over the years, from licensed to homemade. Including our mom, she commissioned artwork of his favorite character, Twilight Sparkle (who is his favorite because she resembles our mom). "Cartoons are for children" or "needing to throw out childish hobbies or interests when you become an adult" was never a thing in our house. That's just a bunch of nonsense created by old bitter adults trying to make more old bitter adults. Keep the things that make you happy and keep adding to them as you grow.

The tree bit for the Changelings is from comics in fiendship is magic. I still believe that she dose make her own children due to Thorax talking about it to Spike. Which made me wonder why such a small group attacked Canterlot. I think a race we will never see helped by stopping a massive invasion and probably wiping themselves out almost. I dont typically comment on pony videos since it's not my strongest interest, but I really want to say that I like your section about Applejack the most, as it hits the most home for me. You are completely correct in that the show hits the nail on the head in how deceased parents are typically remembered. (Just a warning, I'm about to get a bit personal, so if a random commentor's business isn't something you wanna hear about, scroll by.) My mother died late last year from (if i recall correctly) liver failure that resulted from cancer treatment. She was a Stage 4 cancer patient and had fought for years and came out from chemotherapy each day still as strong as ever. There was multiple points where she seemingly narrowly avoided death. But at some point, she tanked hard, which in hindsight was likely the liver failure hitting her already weakened body like a truck, and it only took three days before she was handed the mercy of hospice care and eventually, death. I have a very poor memory most of the time, its a problem of mine, but the memories i do retain of her is small things we did together or anecdotes of things she did or what she was like, just like Applejack and her siblings. I remember small things, like how she went Action Park when she was young and escaped relatively unscathed, or that time I asked her about Showbiz Pizza and she told me that the pizza tasted like cardboard and the robots were creepy as hell. Its not much, but it makes me feel like she's still with me, and that's all that really matters. That night, when i went home from the hospital, i got on a call with my one of my closest friends, and watched The Perfect Pear with him. Its been my comfort episode ever since and helped me through my grieving in a way that another human, no matter how close, really couldnt. Im so happy that many people consider The Perfect Pear one of (if not) the best episodes in FiM. It has thoroughly earned such a title, and I'm glad there's a push for more family dynamics in media. Its just something the average person doesnt think matters, but once you experience it yourself, you realize what these do for you and many others. Love this video and your ranking, and i love the way you analyze the silly horse show. Hope you keep going with this.

My parents are basically Pinkie Pie and Sludge (Spike's "dad"). I never see my dad anymore, and my mum is great but is non-stop busy making everyone's day better. So it's effortless to imagine how Lil Cheese is gonna feel about his mum as he grows up. Both my parents know I like pony, and the one time I tried to go to a con, I was told not without adult supervision as my dad did not trust any of us going anywhere ever. I was at this time an adult and said as such. He responded with a condescending "no you're not"... Meanwhile my mum has gotten me a few pony figures here and there, mostly ones she found at work, rather than going out and buying. Thanks to her and a couple friends I ended up with an impressive figure collection. It never really comes up though in conversation. IRL there's no-one at all I can share my MLP interest with. Though my mum is the type to also embarassingly call out that she found something I'd love at the charity shop or the car-boot sale, and it'll be some G3 trash. I don't mind it anymore, now that being a brony isn't special or new. It's become old and normal. Nothing left to be embarrassed about. Just so long as I can clarify "nonono that's Pony Life, that's not the same thing I like. Yes I know the characters have the same names and colors but it doesn't count!"

Parents are definitely interesting because as you said in the video, no two people will have the same experiences with them. Thank you for sharing those personal bits with us! I'm sad we didn't see more of Rarity's parents. We know very little about her past-I'd say the rest of the mane six got something at least a bit more substantial than she did. And the fact Rarity's so different from her parents and perhaps weren't so supportive of her love of fashion and high society at first had potential for some good stories, as the comics sort of proved. I'd also like to add Twilight to the list of honorable mentions. Yeah, her treatment of Spike wasn't always perfect, a reason people don't like Spike's earlier episodes, and maybe she's more of a sister figure than a mother. And perhaps I'm projecting, as I'm also an only child adopted by a single mother of a different race/culture, but in all the things wrong with Father Knows Beast, Twilight definitely wasn't one of them.

I'll tell you the story of when my parents found out I like mlp. Since I am legally blind, I can download pretty much any book for free on bookshare, which my account is with my mom's email, so she gets an email for the books I download. I decided to get some mlp books off bookshare, and my mom saw that. One day when my whole family gathered together, my mom asked me if I had been reading mlp. I admitted that I watch mlp. The best part is, it was only my mom who was a little weirded out, not my dad or any of my siblings. My dad knew about bronys, and had seen some episodes, because my younger sister watches mlp, so he knew how good it actually is. All my other siblings have watched mlp as well (just never revealed to my parents). My older sisters played with mlp toys, and I think they watched some generation before g4, but since my younger sister had been watching g4, they also watched it. My brother actually watched mlp years ago, and I think it came up once in my house, but what really got me to know for sure, was when my band teacher (who was the same one for my brother) mentioned that my brother watched mlp (that was actually part of how I got into mlp). My other sister, who is also older than me, she watched fim a couple years ago, so she knows everything about it. And then my second younger sister (I have a lot of sisters) has watched mlp with my youngest sister, although I think she doesn't like it (she doesn't like bluey, so her opinions are terrible), and then my youngest sister is who brought mlp on our tv for the first time since the time when my two oldest sisters watched it. Basically, the only one in my family that hasn't seen g4 (is my mom she watched g1), and so she doesn't know how awesome it is. Also, just to be clear, I'm pretty sure my parents didn't know all my siblings also watched mlp, since I only found out way later (I'm the last one in my family to watch mlp).

My mom loved my little pony when she was little so she was overjoyed when I became a fan of it, although I was a young child when I became a fan, we still both enjoy the show together even though I’m an adult. My dad is very neutral about it but he would enjoy watching it with me sometimes, I knew his favorites were applejack and fluttershy bc he found them funny. Me becoming a fan of MLP as a child actually got my mom into collecting old g1 ponies so now she has a bunch of them in her office.

Bow Hothoof and Windy Whistles are, hands down, the best parents of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic! Yes, they may go a little overboard with their support, but their hearts are in the right place. Plus, I think that Bow and Windy make the perfect parents, not just for Rainbow Dash, but for Scootaloo as well. If they had Bow and Windy adopted Scootaloo and made her their 2nd daughter, it would have been wonderful to see Rainbow and Scootaloo's sister bond becoming offical! Pear Butter and Bright Mac are also really good, although I think that they're a little....overrated. As for worst parents...definitely Snap Shutter and Mane Allgood. They absolutely suck! On every level they suck!
@Chiller-pc1dv
@Chiller-pc1dv 7 месяцев назад
RD's parents are great, but they need to tone it down a bit, their presence and how they kept over celebrating everything was overwhelming, and overdoing it makes praise they give lose meaning when they do it over literally everything. I also absolutely adore Brightmac and Pear Butter, watching their relationship grow and how they handled their struggles was so sweet. How Granny Smith took in Buttercup like that, despite her being a pear, was a big deal.

My family have always kinda tease me about still loving "colorful ponies",.but there was this birthday a few years ago, where tecnically I was a "teeenager" and "too old for ponies" but my oldest bother (who teased me the most) and my parents got me a "My little pony birthday cake"( possibly made by my goodmother) and they allowed me to keep the four little-sized ponies that were "modeling" in the cake. So I have a quartet of Rarity ,Flutershy, Rainbow dash and Cherrilee that are my most cherissed gift ever 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖

I stopped being interested (the first time round) in MLP not long after my 12th birthday. perhaps a little "too old" to be into it or whatever, but I'll never forget the Canterlot Castle playset they got me as a gift. I could never bring myself to part with all the pony stuff they'd let me indulge in. even with my more recent interests, they'll find and show me things they've seen while they were out, or get me stuff. I'm getting back into MLP again, now a college student, and thinking about what my parents might say about it now that I'm older. I suppose if they still show me Mario or Sonic-related stuff at my age, hopefully they won't take too much issue with MLP either. parents that support your interests really do wonders. Everyone deserves parents like that :)

I've honestly never seen a cartoon episode where kids love their parents and not been like "damn bootlickers". I've not seen any episodes past season four just because I've been out of the fandom for so long. I didn't get to grow up with actual parents, partly because I was adopted, and partly because the people who adopted me were abusive in ways I i frequently wish I could forget. Even as a kid I didn't like them because of how I was treated, so these episodes from shows where parents are brought up are usually ones I skip by default. If I ever have kids I know for a fact I'll be better parents than them, but that wouldn't really be the explicit goal. If I had kids I'd want them to grow up to feel like life was worth living, a childhood worth remembering, parents that were never dangerous and abusive. To me my parents are dangerous freaks who hurt children for their own profit and enjoyment, I want that to be an alien concept to my future kids. I've gone way off topic, I guess.

To the thing about Derpy being a mom, a good chunk of fans' headcanon is that she IS a mom. They call her Dinky Hooves and she's a cute little unicorn. As to who the headcanon-father is, that differs from story to story. For most instances, he's just not in the picture, period and it's never talked about. In one story in particular she's a mixed-DNA clone of her and Time Turner/Doctor Whooves or a rando college unicorn that she met at a graduation party. I've yet to read a story where he's dead or they're divorced.

it surprised my parents when they found out I liked MLP,cause since the 90's I always said that I didn't like it,and then I watched an episode of MLP from gen 4 (I was half asleep) so it took me later that same day to give it a more fair chance,now gen 4 was already on season 9 at that point and I have no idea what episode I even watched when I was half asleep,but I started from episode 1 after I got online that day and I was like I love it after watched an entire season XD,pretty sure it took me a solid week or 2 to watch all 9 seasons,I haven't given the older gens a fair chance and most likely never will,I still don't like the older art styles before gen 4,surprised I got into it at all,it took me 27 years to figure out I liked MLP XD oh well,this isn't the first time that's happened,it also took me 20 years to figure out that I also love crash banicoot XD and after that I think I spent alot of time watching things that I used to hate and gave them a fair chance,some movies and some cartoons and I found out that I also enjoyed them,2017 is the year that I discovered alot of things I used to hate that I now adore

I know the comics say Chrysalis and Changelings come from a tree, but the comics and show contradict each other quite a bit. Also, in the Hearths Warming club episode, it's revealed that Ocellus has her own parents and a pair of younger siblings. So it's very likely that Changelings reproduce with each other, and Chrysalis's main role is to assign the newborns their role in the hive.

I love my parents so much, they care for me and my brothers. Ofc they can be strict sometimes when we do something wrong but they just want us to be the best version of ourselves. They are cool that I like mlp, my dad watches with me when he came back from work everyday in my childhood. Surprisingly, he didn't mind if my brother was a brony, he just said it's cool we shared something :3. And i can kinda relate to Season9 Ep6, 4 years after my grandpa's passed away, my grandma started a relationship with other man, me and my brother didn't wanted to know anything about that man, we didn't wanted him to take my grandpa's place; but nowadays i have matured enough to know its ok if she wants to love him, also he isn't a bad person, he loves working and cares for her, i do jokes sometimes with him too. My brother still does not like him but tolerates him.

I started watching the show shortly aftering birthday during Season 2. I was already a young adult then an just gotten my first job and was pretty dismal. Then I showed it to my brother just because I thought it was surprisingly good. That Christmas my mother decided to buy me a whole set of the Mane 6 brushable figures. I had never bought any merch for myself yet, so that was a surprise. In all, my mother was very supportive of my interest. I guess it helps I also would go on to meet my girlfriend through this show.

How do you youtube people have so understanding parents? When I talk about mlp or other things I like(for examlpe, idk, costumes) around my parents, they won't hesitate to tell me how "it's too childish" and that I "shouldn't be into that" and that I "should grow up and do more like/do more mature things". And nope, having conversations with them about how "I know it's not your cup of tea, but it's my hobby and it's important to me. Even tho it might seem childish to you, I really like it" doesn't do anything. Even if they are willing to hear me out, they will forget about it quickly and continue to dissmiss my interests Sorry if it's a bit ranty, hope you all have a good day

It's not just my parents but my 3 brothers and friends who do too. most of my my little pony stuff come from my mom finding deals for collections people don't want nearby that i get to fix up and my oldest of my 3 brothers who goes to thrift stores and babysits kids who may not want their ponies anymore. the only my little pony thing my twin brother got me was My Little Pony the movie on dvd still sealed in the plastic. the My Little Pony The Movie was a joke gift mixed with an actaul gift at a mystery gift exchange game known as secret santa during christmas one year. no one knew what they would get and someone happened to not want the movie they got with their actaul gift so he asked if he could have it for me. Honestly my entire family gets me my little pony and I have over 500 now. I even draw pony ocs of my own a lot along with peoples pony town ocs for them to see if they have a discord connected to pony town for anyone to see that i draw for free.

Unfortunately, I'm in a situation where a former partner seems to occupy themselves by trying to compete for the kids' attention, instead of trying to do things beneficially for them regardless. Seeing a hippogryf learn to be okay with parents that are separate, and watching Wind Sprint still grieving whatever happened to her dad were moments we needed, and I'm very grateful for them. They needed to hear it from someone other than just me. Also, I've noticed in g5 that there are no households yet where both parents live together. Sign of the times? Part of the overall decay of society in Equestria?

I see that it's more understandable why she would be supportive of me because I'm a female and grew up watching g3 and g4 (I'm 18) She was my support through it all and will always be grateful no matter what.
