Hi man, you have all my respect for giving ur time to actually explain those things to us, but i have a slightly little problem in my pool, i have checked my clorine and ph levels and fixed them , and then i added floc , and everything went greate ,i vacuumed it all and stiil has a green color ,it looks like it s clean but it s green clean,i really need your help, should the alkalinity be the problem here? I have to mention that i tooked the water from a swamp and it was brown at the beggining
@SwimUniversity

Have you tested your other levels, like minerals and metals? If it's coming from a swamp it could the water source causing that, unfortunately. You might want to get it tested professionally at a pool store

Oh man, I bought a small 10'×6'×24" pool and thought it was gonna be easy to maintain and cheap. Goodness, I had no Idea I needed so many things to keep this little thing up. Water was crystal clear for the first week. Started geting a little cloudy, so I bought some 1 inch chlorine tablets and some baking soda. I put in one tablet and a hand full of baking soda. Now my pool water is yellow😂😂😂. I dont know what to do....This is well water, so i read it could be the metal in the water but Idk.
@fayechamp4156
@fayechamp4156 12 дней назад
Did you ever get it straightened out ? If so , how ?
@CarolinaOats
@CarolinaOats 11 дней назад
You need stabilizer, chlorine tablets, shock & baking soda. If alkalinity is high & ph get ph down if it’s low get ph up.
@SwimUniversity
@SwimUniversity 10 дней назад
Oh yikes! Have you used a metal sequestrant yet? You'll need that to help remove things like iron from the well water.

With a salt water pool where CYA is added manually and kept in range, which is better, dichlor shock or oxidizer, for refreshing free chlorine without increasing CYA? I’m having trouble finding non-stabilized dichlor shock or shock products that specifically states no added CYA. If oxidizer is best in my case, any recommendations? Thanks for all the excellent, well-produced videos!
@SwimUniversity
@SwimUniversity Месяц назад
Oxidizer is better for refreshing free chlorine without raising CYA. But for shocking (i.e. raising your free chlorine up to kill contaminants), you could do liquid chlorine (sodium hypochlorite) - that's not stabilized!
@dan9002
@dan9002 10 дней назад
I have found that the test strips work easier. So far my hardness, free chlorine and total chlorine is high but the rest reads OK. This year I cut back a lot of trees and bushes so organic debris doesn't get in the pool. So far this spring I have not shocked it to get ready for the summer swim. Should I always shock the pool before getting it ready? Thank you, North Texas
@SwimUniversity
@SwimUniversity 7 дней назад
If your TC is high, you might want to shock. It means there's a lot of combined chlorine (used up chlorine) in the water

For the basic chemicals, like alk, pH, etc., wait 20 minutes at least, with everything circulating.

@SwimUniversity

How's it looking after shocking? Balancing pH makes the shock work better. But retest your levels first.
@kaylynnepruett7015
@kaylynnepruett7015 17 дней назад
We just set up our above ground pool. We have had the filter on and started circulating some chlorine tablets. Right now the free chlorine is low, the alkalinity it High and pH low. Should we just shock it to get more chlorine and lower the alkalinity? Then fix the pH?
@SwimUniversity
@SwimUniversity 13 дней назад
Bring your alkalinity and then pH in range. pH helps the chlorine work more effectively. And tablets take some time to disperse.

All of my levels are great on the test strip other than the chlorine levels. I have 3 tablets in a floater and when I test the water, my levels are still showing at 0. Do I need to shock my pool again?
@SwimUniversity

Have the tablets had time to dissolve? Otherwise shocking the pool can help. Check this video out for more help: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PVmVOrQOcRA.html

I'm new to pools and i am working at a hotel which has a hot tub 2,500 gallons. It closes at 11pm and reppens at 8am. My issue is when i would come back from the weekend my Monday was spent dealing with a spa that was cloudy and had no chlorine. The reason i suspected was because night shift would leave the feeder valve cranked all the way up for my two days off. My supervisor is not happy with this and has instructed me to add more tricoor tabs to the feeder. At first it was 3 tabs, now he wants 6 tabs in the feeder. I think this is causing a higher concentration into the spa. We use a leslies test kit and i noticed my alkalinity test was turning funky colors and I re-did the FC/TC and it was super high. What setting and tablet size, would work best and how do i convince my supervisor?
@SwimUniversity
@SwimUniversity 26 дней назад
Adding more tablets isn't going to solve the issue. Running the spa during the off hours likely will. Even for 30 minutes during the "closed" hours. Can you set an automatic timer to make sure the chlorine and water is circulating more often?

Non-chlorine shock is still good to add weekly (it keeps free chlorine active). Use chlorine shock if you have bigger issues.

I'm having a problem where my combined chlorine is near 5 and my FC is 1. I've drained half the pool, added 12 bags of shock (30,000 gallon pool) and the next day my FC was still 0 while my CC was still high. Any recommendations? Pool is clear and blue, and no bad chlorine smell. PH and Alkanity are also in range, CYA is a little, 25. Any help is appreciated
@SwimUniversity
@SwimUniversity Месяц назад
When you add shock, your goal is to reach breakpoint chlorination (30 PPM Free Chlorine). Do another round of this shocking, testing your water to make sure it's at 30 PPM FC. But before that, check your testing supplies or chemicals. Make sure they're accurate or not expired. And consider getting your pool water tested at a pool store, since you don't have a bad chlorine smell but high CC.

How important is bromide in a salt water pool> I see it on the test strip
@SwimUniversity

You might be seeing bromine under free chlorine on a test strip. You only need to measure your free chlorine in salt water, not bromine.

@SwimUniversity
@SwimUniversity Месяц назад
You can use liquid chlorine to shock. If you use Clorox 6-in-1, it's Dichlor shock and it will raise your CYA levels. It's more powerful than liquid chlorine but just watch the CYA.
