Great! But the average player does not have a lathe machine in his house, I don’t and I live in a 5000+ square foot home. I just paid $38.00 for a new tip repair on my break cue. What equipment do you suggest for the average guy to replace his cue tips? Thank you!

There are lots of videos on how to do this without a lathe. You just need the tip, the glue, and sharp razor blades. Too hard to type all the steps. Look at some other videos on this. It can come out really good, but not as nice looking as what you get on a lathe.

The Black King tips are a fantastic product! I have installed a dozen or so cutting them with a blade, gives the best finish!! I have one on my personal cue ( Chris Nitti).

The problem with many tips "Popping off" while shooting is that most of the glue that people use dries "Hard" what I mean by that statement is that the glue I use is 454 Loctite. You can find it on ebay. It is a Gel glue that dries quickly. Even when the glue has dried and secured the tip to the ferrule it still has a certain amount of "Give" to it. Try it and you'll like it.

Please keep in mind this video was shot with an iPhone. On the slower lathe speed it appears that the ferrule has a slight wobble. This is just an illusion because I don't think the iPhone has high enough resolution. This is a Lucasi cue shaft and it ran pretty true in the lathe. It has nothing to do with the installation or shaping of the tip. If you see the last 60 seconds of the video when the lathe is turning faster you will not see any wobble or distortion.

Is there not a method to replace a tip without some kind of expensive machines? I'm just a casual player, don't feel like spending like $700 on a lathe to replace a tip that's probably worth like 20 cents..

userxblade there are other videos showing ways to install and trim tips by hand but nothing works better than a lathe. You can make a simple way to turn your shaft using a standard power drill and I'm sure there are videos showing how to make them as well. Better yet... Find a local cue maker or repair shop and have them install your tips. :)

It's easy to install tip yourself, not sure how much it matters about roundness that you would supposedly get on lathe. I see on tip he does here, the "crown" where it goes from tip to burnished side, is not even hight all around, indicating something is slightly out of round somewhere. Same thing happens on my tip i last did by hand. I think it is from begining when he sands glue side by hand, putting unlevel side on it, making tip attatched not 90 degrees to it's grain. Not really sure though?

I have installed many, many cue tips using a two part epoxy which I allow to dry overnight before continuing. I want to know what kind of glue the man used to install the tip in this video. Thanks, Harry

Ole Tobias Gangfløt it was purchased from Joe Porper years ago... But I think they stopped making them. Buy an old Logan Lathe or any machinist lathe... They an not hard to find.
