One of the questions we usually get is "When should I drain my pool" or "How should I drain my pool"? Well today I want to start off with a analogy regarding pool draining. For say you have a small crack on your car shield and say you let it sit, assuming it will stay the same. But over a short period, you will soon start to realize that the crack is expanding.
And that's the analogy I want to use for pool draining. As water evaporates, all the chemicals are left behind and they start to harden and build up. The pool eventually builds immunity and resistance towards those chemicals, therefore making it harder to maintain a clean pool in the summer. You should drain your pool once every 2-3 years. Fall and winter are the perfect time to drain pools.

What's the process of draining your pool?
1. You first need a water sample/ water analysis bottle. You can use a regular plastic bottle for this process.
2. Fill up the bottle, half with water and then take it for a water chemistry analysis at a NPS pool store, which is a preferred water chemistry testing location.
3. Get swimming pool water tested
Once you bring in the sample, they will scan it through their water scan machine and provide you with a complete print our, summarizing your water chemistry and pH levels, along with what needs to be taken care of. It is recommended to be analyzed every 1-2 weeks at any of the 8 locations for ABSOLUTELY FREE!
If chemistry testing is not performed every other week, the water could start to counteract with any of our prescribed treatment.
