in snooker, I've bee amazed by some force follow shots played by jimmy white, steven lee and neil robertson, especially the famous sudden stop shot by jimmy. it took me a long time to figure out what happened there and your lession is the best illustration on them. cheers for u

Saw this shot for the first time years ago. When a friend hit a hanger hard and the cue ball hit the same cushion twice. Neither of us knew what was going on so we spent a few racks recreating it. Probably the first cool shot I learnt.

I use the term force follow in this case to express a follow shot where the cueball bounces of the rail and then the follow grabs. But you can also use the term for a hard follow shot, where the cueball takes a while till it leaves the tangent line. Enjoy your lesson guys!

Yea, this is a beautiful shot. I won 9 ball with it once. The 9 was jawed in the corner and the object ball about a diamond up the long rail. The cue was nearly one diamond from the end rail toward the center of the table almost directly across from the object ball. A force follow into the object ball sent the cue ball into the corner potting the 9 and winning the game. High English with a bit of left to assist it toward the corner pocket and just enough of a full hit to miss the double kiss. Saw that shot in Byrnes book and, low and behold, it appeared on the table during that match. Not as pretty as either example in the video, but still a great tool when available. And, of course, for some show and a quick win. :)

By the way, I am quickly becoming a fan of your videos. Very good stuff, beginning with "your playing this shot wrong." I've tried to share your tangent line info with others, but they aren't buying it. LOL So, I demonstrate it, but they still insist on stop, draw or rail first. Great sensible stuff using the natural action of the cue ball.

LOL! Holy Cow! I just got my ass whooped on the final game of a best of seven last night here in Manila with a filipino that played a perfect force follow to get on the 7 and then make the 8 ball. I thought I had this guy all messed up and was going to win and he pulled it off. It wasn't exactly like the eight ball scenario here, but it wasn't far off. He needed to make the 3 and then force follow to get my 11 off of his seven and be able to make the seven. Worked absolutely perfect for him. I will be heading down to the local hall to practice this shot a lot more. It's tough losing some cash to a guy that perfectly executed this shot. One of the issues I have is getting enough follow on the ball. I will have to really work on this.

My fiance's brother is one of them. The point of my original comment, since you are not smart enough to figure it out, is that the guy I was playing executed a FF shot perfectly. Very close to what was described in this video. It had nothing to do with him hustling me. LOL. We were were not even betting money. For God's sake some of you people are stupid.

I use this shot alot if I'm playing on an unlevel table and need to stop the ball on long shots where backspin would require a much harder hit to accomplish the same thing. You don't wanna hit a slow roller when the ball will drift to on side or the other so this assures accuracy with speed but doesn't require 9ft of backspin which can be difficult and it will exaggerate any slight cut angle and can leave the cue ball running away. Check it up on the rail and forget about it lol.

Hi Sharivari, I have a quick question on the stun shot. In the example that you have given on how to play the shot to avoid the cue ball being stuck to the rail, you mentioned to aim in the center with slight outside english but the cue ball moved in its natural rotation which means there was forward spin on the cue ball after hitting the object ball. How is that different from having a forced follow?
@MrRex1949
@MrRex1949 5 лет назад
That very first shot you made. Why didn’t you hit the rail on the right had side so it would of hit the top rail and followed back to the bottom rail huh? Most of my pool playing is me not staying down after shooting. I get mad forgetting to follow through and staying down and on my shots. 🎱

Has backspin a similar effect, meaning the cue ball will travel further away from the cushion?
@NomadBale
@NomadBale 5 лет назад
Yes, top spin and back spin invert themselves as long as the direction of travel does it too (ie. after full hitting the cushion), you can clearly see in the slow mo, what was a top spin became a back spin because the direction of travel of the cue ball is INVERTED
@awakenedsoul2638
@awakenedsoul2638 5 лет назад
Cool now I learned new thing. I tried this before but the reaction of cue ball is different than yours. I know how to do this but you showed different way so I will try this later. You are lucky you did this in a clean table I did mine on a dirty table. Let me see if I can exactly do how you did it. It was tough for me when I was doing this on the dirty table.
@G35Jeff
@G35Jeff 5 лет назад
Great Asian it should be even easier for you on a dirty table. A dirty table will grab the ball more. A clean table spins and slides more.
@awakenedsoul2638
@awakenedsoul2638 5 лет назад

@MinusTheTbird
@MinusTheTbird 5 лет назад
Great asian is correct. Its obvious youre not used to playing on different environments. First thing i thought while watching this video was yeah these shots will work if you have clean simonis, ClEAN balls, and a clean polished cue ball. If you goto a bar or pub with dirty old balls and felt you will have to have the stroke of a GOD to be able to get these results and even then id put money against you.
@awakenedsoul2638
@awakenedsoul2638 5 лет назад
@@MinusTheTbird He thought having the cloth grip the ball will make it easier. We do not like grip we need more roll and spin. I know what I am talking about. My real stroke does not come out because I am always playing on ugly tables. No need to say the difference or comparison to a beautiful table. Even good players will say no playing on an ugly table.

Whenever I try to do a powerful shot with much top spin the cue ball (and sometimes the object ball that I hit) just jump amd fly off the table. How to avoid that??
@Sharivari
@Sharivari 5 лет назад
Sounds like your cue is elevated too much. Whenever you hit the cueball very hard with your cue elevated you automatucally play a tiny jump shot. That causes the cueball and object ball to jump when contacting. You can See that phenomenon in my video about the "After Ball Jump". So try to put the cue as level as possible when doing this shot.
